3. Personennamen Die Personennamen, aus denen die safaitischen Inschriften in großem Maße bestehen, 8 , sind scheinen fast alle arabisch zu sein. Nur einige Namen, wie z.B. , nordsemitisch und, wie s und , griechisch. Die safaitischen Personennamen kann man nach den arabischen Quellen vokalisieren. Auch griechische Transkriptionen von arabischen Namen zeigen, daß viele der Namen und Namensformen, die in klassischen arabischen Quellen gefunden werden, in der safaitischen Zeit schon vorhanden waren. Bestimmte häufig vorkommende Namensformen verdienen besondere Erwähnung. In dieser Studie werden die Personennamen einer morphologischen Analyse unterworfen. Ntn

Gml see Nos. 686. 908, 986 etc. Kmy is previously attested in Safaitic (HIn:

505) as well as Ug. (DUL: 447). It has been ¯kr see Nos. 361, 407, 505 etc. vocalized by Winnett and Harding as Kamñ M¿kr see Nos. 279, 280, 440. h-(>)yl ha->ayl “this / the deer, stag”: The (WH: 606). It may also be pronounced as second letter is missing and it should be reconstructed as >. This substantive noun is hitherto unrecorded in Safaitic. It occurs in Ug. >yl (DUL: 134), Heb. ìiˆT (HAL: 39), Akk. ayyalu (ACDA: 32).

Kamiy in the sense of “courageous” (√kmy,

Lisæn vol. 15: 231).

This inscription is written in thin letters and accompanied by a hatched drawing of a panther is practically enclosed by unconnected oval 1058. Wædñ Derham, site 1. Hatched drawing without text depicts an ibex line. Also there is three letters d h w. with very curved horns.

1059. Wædñ Derham, site 1.

This inscription is written in medium-thick letters and accompanied by drawings of a sun emblem, three human hands, two tribal brands and a schematic drawing of an animal, which seems to be a dog. It seems that the author of inscription (WH 1483) has written this l ¿< h…t inscription. By ¯< is this panther (the savage animal).

in Arabic . it occurs in the north west Semitic with the meaning “to plant” as Heb. ìúL (HAL: 1539-1540).

This complex drawing is subsequently smashed. It shows only a schematic drawing of a cameleer.

swn is hitherto unrecorded in Safaitic. It is possible to propose >Aswan “paunchy, who has a lax paunch” (√swn Lisæn vol. 13: 229). See the modern Syr. ¡[ÀOoÄ@ê (Hanna 1997: 34).
