Dedication ~I usually find it difficult to add a dedication to my work, but on this book, there is no question whom the inspiration is. If it weren't for him, none of this would have been possible. He encouraged me, prodded me, and showed me what it is to truly love. His insight is what gave me the title, and in this book is his heart and soul. This is for my Master, who I love and cherish beyond mere words. ~Andrea Glenn
Chapter One Sebastian Desiderio sat on the empty beach at Carnota, in Spain. He was a lone figure looking up into the purple, night-sky, counting the vast array of twinkling stars before him. He closed his weary eyes as a warm and gentle breeze wafted by, blowing his long, black hair away from his handsome, yet very pale face. His dark, bottomless eyes gazed across the expanse of sea and he sighed heavily. It had been over five hundred years since he had been created and yet he was still plagued with discontent. He leaned back in the sand and breathed deeply, trying to clear his thoughts. He was bored and restless. It was times like this that he cursed his creator. Being a vampire wasn't his idea. He was defiled by a sorceress while on a mission—a mission of enlightenment and discovery. He'd had no choice in the matter, and sometimes still fought the struggle of the dark mark that was placed upon his heart and branded into what was once his soul. There were many times when he was struck by the reality that he was actually a vampire—a creature of the night. He was something much more than any myth could ever describe; more than some silly bedtime story told by the light of a fire. Bram Stoker didn't have a clue. Sebastian was no longer a mere man. He was an immortal, long dead in one sense, yet very much alive
in another. But the hardest part for him had always been the fact that he was destined to be completely and utterly alone, living a life in shadows filled with pain and despair. The idea of being one of the “un-dead” sometimes brought him to his knees with laughter, and at other times ... there were tears, anguished tears filled with blood. Those were the times he went away into a very dark and secret place, far away from curious eyes. It was there in the total blackness that he relived his life and all that had been lost. Memories began to wash over him as he observed a large ship in the distance. On nights like this, it only seemed like yesterday that he had begun his long journey into night when he joined the fateful expedition into what is now America, with Francisco Vázquez de Coronado.
Chapter Two The Coronado expedition explored the vast amount of land in what is now known as the Western United States. It was only after the group had given up searching for the mythical Seven Golden Cities of Cibola that they came upon a large area of village dwellers, which the Spaniards later named the Pueblo Indians. One night while in the encampment, Sebastian encountered an Anasazi, or ancient one, while on duty walking the perimeter. Almost immediately, he felt a fear unlike any he had experienced in his thirty years. He was hypnotized by the old man's soulless eyes and at once and fell into a deep stupor. The Anasazi moved toward him swiftly, and suddenly time seemed to slow as Sebastian felt his body slowly crumble to the hard, rocky ground. Completely paralyzed, except for his eyes, he could only watch in horror as this hechicero, or witchdoctor, began to chant over him. Almost instantly the night turned frigid. The extreme cold began to seep through Sebastian's clothing and into his bones. He lay on the dusty basin floor, helpless and shivering as the Anasazi leaned over him, his eyes glassy as he blew smoke from his fetid breath into Sebastian's face. Powerless, he stared as the ancient one began to convulse and spittle formed around the corners of his cracked and parched mouth. It was only then that Sebastian noticed that a large group of villagers had surrounded them and they, too, had begun to chant incomprehensibly. Silently, Sebastian prayed someone from the expedition would hear the maniacal noise and come to his rescue, but he somehow knew they wouldn't or couldn't. They were probably under the same spell he was. Sebastian was trapped and felt the darkness enveloping him. Suddenly, the Anasazi stepped back and moved into the shadows. Sebastian felt his heart rate begin to slow, and he thought the worst was over, only to see a beautiful young woman striding over to his prone body. His gaze fell upon the scantily clad figure, with long black hair cascading down over her shoulders. Their eyes met and he was at once both terrified and filled with an indescribable desire at the sight of her exceptional green eyes that glowed with a light from somewhere deep within. It was at that very moment he felt his heart begin to thud in his chest once again. This time it began to race. The young woman looked down at Sebastian and smiled, her teeth white and gleaming in the moonlight. “You have been chosen,” she said in perfect Spanish. Noticing a subtle change in the air, Sebastian struggled on the hard ground, trying to say something, his mind screaming in fear and confusion. His lips were closed firmly and he was unable to move them.
"You will not speak now. It is time for you to create and be created.” The woman closed her eyes as if in meditation. She tilted her head back and opened her mouth, showing sharp incisors. She moaned loudly and looked back down at Sebastian, slowly licking her lips. Her gaze was that of a predator, ready to strike. Beyond terror, Sebastian's eyes darted around to all of the villagers who were continuing to chant in some sort of altered state. No one looked directly at him. Please, Mother of God, help me! His mind was clear, yet he was trapped in a body that couldn't move or speak. All at once, the young woman screamed out, and at her voice, the villagers all began to make a horrifying keening sound. With one sweep of her hand, she commanded quiet. There was a steady hum in the night air as her attention focused once again on Sebastian. "I am called Miakoda. It means power of the moon, and you are Sebastian Desiderio.” She paused. “I have been waiting for you all my life. It has been written in the ancient text that you would come." Sebastian felt his stomach clench at the words. He had no idea how this young woman knew his name; nor how she knew he would come not only to this country, but to this particular village. Ignoring the obvious fear in his eyes, Miakoda turned and nodded toward her people. “It is time,” she whispered, and began to chant. Her arms lifted toward the sky as her voice began to tremble. She stopped and looked into his face as she came forward, and waved her hands across his head, stomach and groin area. She leaned down and breathed into his ear, slowly licking and sucking the lobe. “Be at peace." Although his arms and legs were still paralyzed, Sebastian could now feel the rest of his body, and the instant arousal from the erotic sensation of this young woman's attentions at his ear began to fill him with immense heat. Miakoda began stroking his neck and ear, which was enhancing the longing that began to spread throughout his body. She ran her long fingernails through his long, glossy hair and then down his shoulders, brushing across his chest. From there, she grazed the palm of her hand down his hardened front. Sebastian couldn't help but struggle to push upwards. As if to read his mind, Miakoda reached under the material he was wearing and exposed him to the cool air. Taking him in one hand, she gently moved her tongue over the tip, licking away the beads of fluid. She gracefully danced her tongue over him slowly, taking her time. Sebastian's eyes grew wide as the feeling began to overwhelm him. Please! He knew she could hear his thoughts because she looked at him and smiled. Miakoda gave him a very soft kiss, then ran her tongue from the base of his erection all the way up, taking just the head into her mouth. She sucked deeply, allowing him to slide down her throat. Sebastian felt a change in his body and his middle jerked up off the ground and came slamming back down hard. His mouth opened but only a guttural sound was emitted from deep within his chest. He tried to move again, but couldn't. "Be at peace,” she whispered again, and gently stroked his stomach. She moved up his body and swung
her leg over his hips, straddling him. She gazed into his eyes hungrily and laughed softly as she untied the leather straps on his shirt. She kissed his lean, muscular chest. “Encantador." Sitting up, she pulled the fabric that was covering her dark and supple body up and over her head, showing she was wearing nothing underneath. Her smooth dark complexion shimmered in the moonlight, as did her firm breasts with their dusky nipples protruding ... taunting him. She ran her hands along her belly and to her breasts. She cupped them, squeezing, and pinching the hard little pebbles. Sebastian felt a gentle ripple moving throughout his body as he watched the sorceress above him. His mind begged for the feeling to come back to his arms so he could pull her into an embrace and smother her lips with a deep and drowning kiss, even though he knew everything was wrong. The whole situation seemed so unreal, yet something deep inside made him cringe. He knew this was meant to be. Without warning, she grasped him in her small delicate hand, and firmly brushed his thickness against her damp opening. She tilted her head back and moaned softly, delaying the inevitable. Something changed, and Sebastian felt it. He was finally able to buck his hips upwards, desperate for entrance. His eyes begged her to continue, as he writhed on the hard ground. She smiled knowingly and rubbed him over her swollen flesh, and allowed him to push in just a little. Sebastian's mind swam in a fury of passion and desire. Please! Once again, as if she were reading his mind, she allowed more of him to enter her, then more—making his sensitivity heighten to unknown areas of pleasure. After a few torturous minutes, she allowed him to glide easily inside her all the way. She gasped loudly, and Sebastian was now able to issue forth a low growl, which echoed throughout the canyon. The tightness gripped around him and he felt the heat and friction beginning to grow. Miakoda lifted her hips, while bracing herself against his chest, and slammed back down on him forcefully. Each time she moved, she ground her hips into him harder and faster, twisting back and forth. Sebastian watched in awe as she threw her head back, breathing in shallow gasps, hissing between her teeth. He knew that he was about to go beyond the point of no return, and closed his eyes tightly as the intense feeling began to circulate through his burning veins. Miakoda looked at him and groaned deeply from her throat. Her voice was husky and full of passion. She continued to straddle him, pumping with mindless force; and suddenly he felt her grip tighten around him, clenching and unclenching involuntary. Her muscles were contracting intensely, and it was too much for him. He had to finally release the pressure that had been building to the point of madness. With a loud grunt, he poured forth into her, and shuddering spasms rocked his body. His eyes were closed tightly as he heard her scream his name, and he didn't see her bare her teeth. With stunning speed, Miakoda leaned forward and sank her incisors into Sebastian's throat, allowing the explosive throbbing of his orgasm to pump life giving blood into her waiting lips and down into her dry throat. He had not only given her his life's blood, but he had also given her the seed of life that was now being created in her womb. The group of villagers looked on as Miakoda drank Sebastian in. The sound of her swallowing greedily was all that could be heard in the darkness of the haunted basin. Sebastian was still at the height of the most incredible climax he had ever experienced when he felt the sharp pain in his neck. He was shocked and dazed at the feeling of completeness that spread through his
limbs. It was as if he had been waiting for this to happen all his life. He was no longer afraid. As Miakoda drank from his essence, he simply relaxed as the throbbing continued in his groin and in his throat. After all his years of searching for meaning in his life, for something more than just work and pleasure ... he finally found his true destiny, although he wasn't exactly sure just what that destiny was. He knew his life had just changed forever. Miakoda slowly moved away from him, wiping her lips with the back of her hand. An old woman moved to her quickly and wrapped her in a woolen blanket. Sebastian sat up, his hand on his throat, and tears of pain and confusion in his eyes. “Que?" Miakoda stood straight. “Sebastian Desiderio, it was written by my elders long ago that you would come, and you would be the seed for my people. It is from you that our kind will continue. You have given me a son, and he is our new salvation. He will be called Salvador." Sebastian blinked his eyes, uncomprehending all that had just happened. He lowered his head into his hands. "You are an immortal now, Sebastian. Stand.” Miakoda walked over to him and extended her hand. Sebastian looked up, took her hand into his, and stood on shaky legs. He looked around at all the villagers staring at him, knowingly. Miakoda breathed deeply. “You belong to the night now. From the darkness, you will live and from your power you will have the ability to create others, but do so wisely. This is not a gift to be taken lightly, Sebastian. You will go and live in faraway places, and you will see and experience many things. You will never die." Sebastian shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair, trying desperately not to panic at the words of this sorceress. "Listen to me. You must pay attention. There will come a time that you will feel the need to return to me and to your son, but for an eternity you will hate me and curse me for what I've done to you. Eventually, you will put the hatred and learn to live in this new world, accepting this gift from me and my elders. You will see how your seed has spread throughout the world, and will be in awe of the power that you behold." Sebastian felt dizzy and his eyes were out of focus. He reached out to grab her arm, but fell to the ground, unconscious. Miakoda looked down at the father of her unborn child, and then back up at a group of villagers that had walked over to her cautiously. “Put him into the earth. It is almost time for the sun to rise. It will be up to him to learn how to survive now.” She turned to a young boy standing next to her. “Wolf, you will watch over him."
Chapter Three Shaking his head at the memory of the time the life he had always known came to an abrupt halt and his new life began, Sebastian slowly got up and began to stroll along the deserted beach in somewhat of a daze.
He remembered that poignant night, waking up in a dark hole with a thick blanket of fetid dirt in his hair, nose and throat. He had begun to panic and made things worse by inhaling some of the foul earth that had been his tomb. If it weren't for a young boy who had stayed near, he would have surely lost his sanity. The boy reached into the hellish pit and grabbed Sebastian's hand, pulling him free. Sebastian flung himself forward and crawled slowly across the hard ground, coughing and spitting the filth from his lungs. "I am Wolf,” the young boy said gently. “Your people have gone. They have been looking for you many days. Miakoda asked me to watch over you." Sebastian fell to the ground and rubbed his face, looking up into the star filled sky. He felt different. The panic and nausea he had felt only minutes before were gone, replaced by a feeling of serenity and a sudden feeling of power. He sat up quickly and looked at the boy. "You are to live by night and rest by day, in the earth, caves...” Wolf's voice trailed off as Sebastian's eyes suddenly flashed at him hungrily. “You may drink from me, but only a little. I cannot die. I have a mother and sisters to take care of, and I'm not to be an immortal. You are to learn to hunt on your own. Do you understand?" Sebastian was amazed that this boy spoke in fluent Spanish, but to his knowledge his group was the first Spaniards to have come upon the remote village. Everything seemed to be teeming with magic. “Si,” he said softly, looking down, almost embarrassed at the thoughts that were swimming in his new mind. "Very well.” Wolf walked over and held his wrist in front of Sebastian's face. “Here,” he said simply. “Take." Without another word or guilty thought, Sebastian took the frail arm and bit into the prominent vein, sucking deeply, feeling the hot sticky fluid sliding down his throat. An explosion of heat and power ripped through him and he gripped Wolf's arm tighter. "Enough!” The boy pulled free with more strength than he looked to possess. “That is all, Immortal. That will sustain you for now. You are to go far away from here. Do you understand all I've said to you?" Sebastian nodded, eyeing the boy with a mix of sadness and regret. “Si." "Until we meet again, Sebastian.” Wolf ran off at an unnatural speed. Overcome with so many emotions, Sebastian cried out into the night. “Por qué?” he repeated over and over again. Why me??? **** Sighing, Sebastian allowed the water to come up and cover his black leather boots. He kicked at the spray, smiling as the water shot into the sky. The sand was packed firmly as he glanced down at his footprints. "Am I alive?” he whispered softly, all alone in the darkness. It was a question he had asked himself many times over the years. He hadn't thought about his creation in a very long time. It all seemed like a dream; running through the nights and sleeping in the earth or in caves by day until he was able to find a ship to stow away on and
bring him back to Spain. He thought back to his travels throughout Europe, and all he had seen and experienced. None of it was a dream. He heeded all the warnings Miakoda had given him, and he learned to survive as a vampire. At first he was disgusted by the prospect of killing humans, but he tried to only slay the dregs of humanity he found in the back alleys and pubs. Eventually, he was able to devour much more easily ... murderers, robbers, rapists ... but never took the innocent—women or children. He was surprised at how good he was at the hunt, but he only hunted to live, never as a game. Glancing up at the sky, he noticed the moon was full and he stopped, allowing the glow to shine down into his pale face. He missed the sun. He missed companionship. He missed so many things. Reaching up, he took the suede tie from his ponytail and shook his head, letting his hair fall around his broad shoulders. He ran his fingers through the long locks, trying to ignore the sudden yearning that was beginning to fill his thoughts. His desolate soul hungered for more than sustenance. He wanted to love and to be loved once more. He swallowed hard, feeling a lump in his throat, and briefly thought about the many women he had been with over the years. He thought of Miakoda. He had been back many times, hoping to find her and his son, but never could. He wondered if she somehow knew he was looking and hid from him. He knew in what was once his soul that he would find her someday and he would also find the child he created that night. She had said that time would come and for some reason he believed her. Through his travels, he met many like him, darkened creatures that roamed the night. He wondered how many of them were actually a part of him. He thought of his son, Salvador, every night, and wondered if he had ever been in his presence. Deep inside Sebastian knew if he ever came across his seed he would know him, just as he knew who he was. As for companionship over the years, there were plenty of opportunities for him to transform someone into an immortal. It was very easy. What was not easy was finding someone he wanted to spend an eternity with. His life was much more than passion. To be with someone until the end of time was something that had to be taken into much consideration. He needed a companion, a soul mate—not just a fellow hunter and lover. There was someone in his past he'd seen and fallen in love with the moment his eyes met hers. It wasn't long after he had become an immortal. At that time, being so naive to the ways of his new life, he didn't understand the repercussions of his rash actions. He had traveled to London and created a vampire from a young woman he saw walking down a lonely road one night. He was mesmerized by her beauty. Her fair skin shone in the moonlight, her long blonde hair moved around her shoulders in the breeze. She was a goddess in his eyes. By that time, Sebastian had learned many languages and was able to converse freely with many people on many continents. So, when he saw this beauty before him, he felt confident and was compelled to speak to her in her own tongue. When he finally got the courage to step from the shadows, his voice caught in his throat as he saw the terror in her lovely green eyes. “I will not harm you.” He spoke in English, although his Spanish accent was still very much intact. The young woman stood straighter. “I'm not afraid of you." It was then Sebastian knew he wanted her, not thinking about the future. He moved to her quickly. “Your eyes speak differently, My Lady.” He moved closer.
The young woman's eyes narrowed as she looked up into Sebastian face. He gazed into her now dilated pupils and tried to calm her. He could see the pulse in her neck slowing down a fraction as his mind entered hers. He watched as she breathed deeply through her nostrils, still ready to bolt. “Easy." "I'm not afraid of you,” she repeated, not nearly as confident as she had been a moment before. "Maybe you should be very frightened.” He wrapped his arms around her waist, feeling her relax in his grip. "Just ... take me.” She looked down, obviously ready to accept her fate, whatever that might be. Sebastian laughed wickedly. “I don't think you know of what you ask, Fair One. I'm not like the men of your village. What is your name?" "Elise." "Elise, do you want to leave here? Do you want to go on an adventure with me?" She looked at him, her eyes misty. “I ... I don't know." Sebastian laughed. “I can show you the wonders of the world. You will be free to live your life as only a select few can. I can make you live forever." "Ah!” she snorted. “What have you been drinking, Stranger?” She stiffened in his arms. It was only then that he smiled broadly, allowing his sharp teeth to show. “Blood." Elise fainted, and he carried her to a bench near an old church. When she came around, Sebastian was holding her in his lap, softly stroking her hair. “Do you feel better?" "What are you?” Her lips trembled in fear and revulsion. "Why, I'm your salvation, Elise. I've come to give you the gift of life through my blood. Will you accept it?" "You're a monster ... a blasphemer!” she shouted, sitting up. She moved as far away from him as she could get. She glanced around their surroundings quickly, obviously wanting someone to come rescue her. "Are you looking for someone to come save you, Elise?" Her eyes bulged. “Look, Sir. I don't have any money. If it's my body you want, take it, but please...” her voice became quiet as she began to sob softly into the hem of her faded dress. "A monster? No. I'm here to give you life. I'm the only one who can save you. What do you have now?” He gazed down at her dirty face, torn dress and worn shoes. She lowered her head. “Nothing." "Will you accept my gift, then?"
Elise lifted her face and with confusion in her eyes, looked at Sebastian. “Yes.” She whimpered. Sebastian created his first immortal. She became his lover, mother, teacher, and friend. The time they spent together was at first very awkward, as he tried to show her what needed to be done to live in the world of shadows. She didn't want to kill, and it almost destroyed her. Eventually, she overcame her fear and immense guilt, but he felt a deep bitterness from her. He loved her with everything he was, and at times thought she felt the same way. She looked at him with tenderness, and touched him softly as they made love. He wanted to live inside her forever, sharing all the joy they could in the world of continuous night. But, he knew there was something distant in her, something he would never be able to reach. He knew she also hated him for what he had done to her. Her moods reflected her contradictions, and he had to hold her many nights as the blood soaked tears poured forth from her lovely face and anguished soul. To Sebastian, there seemed to be more good times than bad, until he woke one evening and she was gone. She didn't leave a note, nothing. There had been no warnings, no odd feelings from her. Elsie was just gone, and she never returned to him. He searched years for her, but it was though she just vanished into another world. He missed her, terribly. She became a ghost in his mind, forever haunting his thoughts when he needed her most.
Chapter Four Now, as he was walking the beach, Elise was once again enticing his memories, causing him to long for her special touch once more. A movement in the distance caught his eye. A figure was walking toward him in the sand. Sebastian squinted, hoping his heightened sense of sight would help him see who this was. What he saw made his heart leap in his chest. It was definitely a figure of a woman. “Elise?" The woman stopped as if she heard his voice across the distance. Sebastian paused, holding his breath. He wanted to run to the vision, but decided to let her come to him. He focused his thoughts on this creature in front of him, hoping to slide into her mind. “Elise? Is it you? How can this be? How long have I searched for you? And ... am I to believe that I can just stumble upon you in the dark? Come to me, My Love. Show yourself." The young woman turned from side to side and stopped abruptly. Sebastian smiled in the dark. “Yes, Elise. We meet again." Suddenly, the shadowed figure turned and began to walk toward the line of buildings at the edge of the shore very quickly. She pulled the black cloak she was wearing around her tightly, hiding her face in the bright moonlight. "Wait!” Sebastian called out. “Elise! Don't go! You have found me!” He took two steps and suddenly felt dizzy; and an overwhelming sense of danger washed over him, causing him to stumble. He put his hands to his head and tried to stop the intrusion of what felt like pure evil. With horror, he realized this was not Elise. “This has to be witchcraft!” he mumbled, his words lost over the roar of the waves crashing onto the beach. He wiped his face with the back of his trembling hand, and tried to focus his eyes.
The young woman moved at an extraordinary pace. There was no way she could be merely human. Sebastian stood on shaky legs, confused, watching this demon dart away. What he was seeing was not a vampire, he was sure, but what could she be? He tried to enter her mind, but was pushed back at full force. No human can do this! He stumbled again, falling to his knees, his head pounding as though he had been hit by a heavy brick. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his racing thoughts. Eventually the pain passed enough for him to stand and he rushed forward, determined not to lose this ... witch? **** Come now, Sebastian ... follow me. Let me lead you to a place where you want to be.The young woman didn't speak aloud as she moved. She wanted Sebastian to follow out of curiosity, not by magic. She had been watching him for an eternity, waiting for the opportunity to make him hers. She had seen him as he stealthy disembarked from the ship he had stowed away on, and followed him. His unnatural beauty enthralled her, and knowing immediately that he was an immortal, she longed for him. Yet, she knew she couldn't have him. She had nothing to give. So, she had to bide her time and watch him over the centuries, following him on his adventures, barely able to contain her rage when he created Elise and had his way with all the other women. She knew in time he would be hers forever. Only now did she have something to give him, something he would accept greedily ... something he would do anything for. Sebastian! She was ahead of him, but not too far. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled at the determination etched across his handsome face.It is time! "Please, wait!" She read his thoughts. “Elise!” she muttered under her breath as she picked up speed. “Why does he have to think of that little tart?” She sighed knowing it was only because he thought she was Elise that he followed. She was overwhelmed by self-pity, but quickly shook it off. “It's my turn,” she said loudly, not caring if he heard her. She focused her thoughts on him.I'm not Elise, I'm much more. **** The power of this witch's words hit Sebastian as though he had run into a wall. He fell forward onto his knees once more, nausea sweeping over him. He retched and fell back. “Who are you?” His voice carried on the wind. It was as though she was taunting him to follow. Finally an anger rose from deep within him and he stood, shaking off the sand and pebbles that clung to his clothing. “You! Who are you?” he yelled into the night. He dashed forward and literally flew a few inches above the ground. His speed was that of a demon possessed. The thought of something this powerful, yet not a vampire, intrigued him and angered him. No one had ever had this sort of control over him before. This woman was powerful beyond anything he had come across in all his years as an immortal. She could possibly save him from the despondency that was overtaking his very existence. Maybe if she was a true witch she could cure him of his never-ending torture, or possibly help him end it once and for all. The moon was now hidden behind thick clouds, but Sebastian's vampire eyes allowed him easy vision as he finally slowed his pace and now calmly strode up the street. He finally had his emotions under control, and was now only eager to find out who this shadow figure was. The woman had slowed her pace as well, glancing back at him. He laughed out loud now, deciding not to rush. He relished the feeling of a chase, a hunt he was made for ... predator and prey. Within minutes the woman turned into a hidden drive. Sebastian followed cautiously and was suddenly in the backyard of an older home, a home rotten with decay. He moved through aged trees engulfing the property, the ground beneath his feet thick and spongy with fallen leaves mixed with sand. Unlike a mortal, he felt no fear. He knew he was stronger than any creature that dared come near, but something had affected him before. A power that made him shiver
with anticipation. A tiny ripple of apprehension flowed through his body and he wondered if he was the most powerful creature here at this place. The woman ahead moved quickly to a clump of trees. He followed, hanging back a little just to make sure there were no other surprises waiting for him. He took his time and within a few short minutes arrived at the entrance to the lair of this ... witch. It was merely a cave, crudely dug in a hillside beneath the roots of a centuries old tree. The massive roots formed the arched doorway through which he entered. The rounded cave reeked of dank earth and rotted vegetation, its ceiling and walls thick with dead and dying wood. All about him, Sebastian noticed shelves hung heavy with glass bottles containing all manner of ghastly ingredients. He looked around for the woman, but she must have moved further back into the dark void of the cave. He stood still, trying to decide if he should stay or if he should go. “Damn!" "That's not very nice,” a voice said softly to his right. Sebastian spun on his heel and saw a very young girl looking at him with large, curious eyes. At first he thought she was only a child, but then he realized she was a young woman, very small and delicate. "Where is she ... the woman who just came in here?" "Who?" Sebastian's mouth dropped. “The woman who just came in here ... where is she? She is a witch, correct? Do not lie to me!" "Don't call her a witch.” The young girl shook her head. “She's gone, but will return soon." Sebastian felt anger rise in his throat. How dare this imp tell him what to do? “Who are you and why are you being so mysterious?” He was peering at her carefully. What a strange creature she was. Everything about her appeared silvery and shimmering as if moonlight emitted from her very being. Her long, almost white hair shone and glistened, even though there was no source of light in the dark cave. It hung in pale waves down to her knees. He suddenly realized she was extremely beautiful. Her large, wide-spaced eyes glowed green and radiant, and reminded him immediately of Miakoda and Elise. Her lips were pale, but well shaped, round and full. The beautiful head sat upon a long slender neck, and Sebastian's amber eyes searched and found the throbbing vein rich with blood beneath its silky smoothness. She wore a simple sheath of gossamer thinness, so fine was its material he could freely view the naked body beneath. And an excellent body it was. This young girl had full, high breasts, and a flat, smooth stomach. "Staring is rude.” She looked down, shaking her head sadly. "Yes, it is, but then again, I'm not always the perfect gentleman.” He allowed his gaze to move over her figure again. A soft crop of blond and curly hair was easily seen between her long slender legs. She was a fine creature, no doubt about it. "I am Olivia.” Her voice was as whispery and silvery as her very entity. “I'm a servant to Madame, and I'm not trying to be mysterious. You, Sir, just barged in here demanding things, and frightened me." "I see.” Sebastian's eyes traveled down those long legs once more and he then he saw she was chained
to a metal ring securely affixed to the wall of the cave. Her slim ankle was cut and bleeding from the cruel hard metal that confined it. “What the...” his voice trailed off. The sight of blood usually excited him. But he felt nothing except contempt for the witch who kept this beautiful girl so callously chained in a dark cave. "What?" Sebastian moved to her side and lifted the small delicate foot in his hand. He studied the metal that encased her so completely. It was a strange substance, for it felt warm and smooth in his hand. "Oh, that. It's a spell.” Her voice was so light and breathy. “You cannot breakthis spell. I am to be here until I grow old and cannot be of service to the Madame anymore. It will be only then that I shall be set free." "That's madness!” He growled in outrage. “I will speak to Madame when she returns. I think she was seeking me earlier. I'm very surprised she left. I'm sure she knew I was following her.” He eyed Olivia suspiciously, something about her setting off an alarm in his weary brain. The young girl looked down. “I'm sorry. How should I know if she was seeking you? She just ran through as usual. She's doesn't see any need in allowing me into her personal thoughts or feelings." Sebastian nodded, feeling ashamed he had been so rude to this poor creature trapped by a sadistic witch. “Does she do this to men often? Does she cause them to be momentarily stunned in hopes of them coming to her, and then she just ... leaves? I would think she would try to trap them and possibly eat them.” He chuckled. Olivia covered her mouth with her hand and giggled lightly. “Sheis very mysterious, Sir. But, I don't recall her ever eating a man." Sebastian smiled awkwardly and nodded, not knowing exactly what to say next. He couldn't explain his compassion for this girl, for compassion was not a sensation that came easily to him. But it became of utmost importance that he do something about such an intolerable situation. This lovely maiden must be set free. Sebastian cleared his throat, realizing he was still holding the warm metal. “Are you in very much pain?” He gently placed her foot back on the ground and stood before her. They were extremely close. His eyes swept across her beautiful face. "No." He frowned. “Are you mortal?” he blurted, because he did not experience the usual thirst for blood at her nearness. He turned his back in frustration. “I'm sorry, Olivia. I'm not myself this evening." "I am mortal.” Her white teeth glistened. “But I know you're not. I know you are one of the immortals. I know you are a vampire. I've seen your kind before." Sebastian casually leaned against the cave wall. “How do you know these things?" "Madame has shown me things. I am a prisoner here. She tells me everything she wants me to know, so I can help her. I really have no choice, as you can see. I even know your name. It is Sebastian."
He smiled at her. “I see. So, I do know this Madame, yes?" "Possibly.” She said blushed slightly. “And I know, Sir, that you are the most handsome man I have ever seen. The immortals that normally come here are terrifying and make me very ill." Sebastian's smiled grew wider. “Oh, and you have seen many men in your short life?" Olivia joined him in the smile. Then her face became serious. “I will never know the joy of a man. All I see is those that come to ... Madame.” Her shoulders shook and she looked down, a stricken look flashed across her delicate face. She could see her words were beginning to melt the ice in Sebastian's heart. She needed him to come to her, to feel for her. This was her chance and she couldn't let it slip by. **** Sebastian again experienced overwhelming sympathy. He must get this girl out of this situation immediately. Once more he stooped down and took the metal chain in his hands, and growled deep in his chest. With all his terrible strength he tried to break the metal apart. She laughed at him sadly. “It's a spell,” she said again. “I told you even you, Sebastian the all powerful vampire, cannot break this spell." He stood up, his face inches from hers. It was so strange, this feeling of empathy ... this total absence of thirst. “You, My Dear, are a puzzle." **** "Actually,” she went on, her breath warm on his face. “Youcan help me.” Olivia knew what she was about to say would either help her, or get her killed. She had no choice but to press forward. She looked at him and took a deep breath.
Chapter Five Sebastian looked at the young girl and an odd feeling began to creep up his spine. He knew what she would ask would more than likely change his life forever. How he knew this was a mystery, but something told him there was much more to this young lady than met the eye. “Tell me.” He looked into her eyes. “How can I help you?" "You are a vampire, are you not? You have the power to create those in your own form. I beg of you, transform me into an immortal. Only then will I have the strength to break this spell." He looked at her carefully. “I cannot break the chain, Olivia. A vampire cannot break the metal links. You said that yourself." She smiled confidently. “If I were a vampire, I could break it." "I don't understand that, and, well ... you have no idea of what you ask. It is not something to be taken lightly. I cannot give you this burden. I will wait here, with you, and speak with Madame.” He moved away from her. It was now obvious to him he couldn't think clearly with her so close. She had stirred something from deep inside him. "No I beg you. Please, with everything I have.” Olivia cried, her voice raising hysterically, her hand clutching at his arm and pulling him back to her. “I cannot take one more minute of this pathetic
existence.” She began to panic. This had to work. Sebastian couldn't turn his back on her, not now, not after all she had been through. **** He sighed. He knew exactly how she felt. Her closeness was becoming almost more than he could take. Even though he had drank earlier that evening before his walk on the beach, an overpowering thirst instantly settled upon him. Her blood emanated so rich, so sweet, so tempting. He shook his head. “No. I ... can't." "Sebastian, please. I know what I'm asking of you. Don't you understand what I experience every day of my life? I cannot go on like this. I will go mad, and Madame will kill me, for I will no longer be of use to her. Knowing her, she will torture me cruelly and then kill me. Do you want that to happen to me, or are you just as cruel and evil as she is?" Sebastian felt his body begin to heat. He suddenly felt passion mixed with sympathy as he watched her breathing increase, her full breasts heaving. He now wanted to drink from the beautiful creature more than he wanted anything. “Olivia, please.” He wanted to take her into his arms and make love to her. "Do you want me to die a horrible death, Sebastian? I want to live. I want to be free. You are free, are you not?" "Not really,” he mumbled, running his fingers through his hair, trying to settle his thoughts. He slowly glanced up and into the face of this beautiful temptress. “You can't possibly understand." "I do.” She was so close, so close she could almost taste it. Freedom. **** "Damnation!” he cursed loudly and hit the wall of the cave with his fist. He glared at her. “Damn! Damn! Damn!” He cried out, and with a sudden animal growl, he leaned forward and took her into his arms roughly. She was light, soft and enticing beyond words. He lowered his mouth to her throat, and without any hesitation, his sharp fangs pierced the vein and rich blood gushed into his mouth. He drank deeply, but stopped before she would die. As he released her, she fell to the ground in a heap. His head was spinning. “Quickly, you must drink from me, now.” His body began trembling violently. With a razor sharp fingernail he sliced a vein in his wrist and put it to her lips. She lifted her head and surprised him with her vigor. Her mouth closed about his open wound and she sucked noisily and hungrily. “Ahhh!” An angry snarl sounded deep in Sebastian's throat. She was taking too much of him, and he had to yank her back by her long hair back in an attempt to break free from her fierce grip. “Stop ... now!" Olivia fell back once again, moaning. “Sebastian." Looking down, he inspected the wound on his wrist, as he watched the lesion close and heal. He turned to her and stared. He knew she would begin to feel real pain. It would be the last time she would ever experience real physical pain. Within seconds, Olivia's body began to writhe and shake, her animal wails filling the night air. But it didn't last as long as usual, and within minutes she tossed her hair back and stood strongly before him. She smiled broadly. The deed had been done. Sebastian had come through and now everything would
fall into place. She was confident as she brushed her dress off and blinked. “Well?" He looked at her face, studying her. The features appeared crueler, older, and maybe wiser. She was still beautiful, but she no longer appeared vulnerable, no longer a sweet innocent child. "Sebastian, My Love.” She held her arms to him. “At last I have you here, my equal. At last I stand before you as strong as you ... or possibly stronger?" He took a step back. “What do you mean, stronger?" "Well, I'm a combination of witch and vampire. Surely that is more powerful than a mere vampire?” Olivia felt like dancing, but knew that would be taking things a bit too far. She couldn't hide her joy. “Dear Sebastian..." He realized his terrible mistake. “You are the Madame?" "Of course I am, my darling Sebastian. And now, here you are, with me. I have loved you for centuries. I have followed your life." He closed his eyes, feeling a sense of dread wash over him. “I don't understand." "I lived in your village so very long ago, and became a witch just as my mother and grandmother before me. I learned many great things. You see, over the years I've traveled all over the world learning things from great mystics, shaman, and witches. While I was in the Orient, I learned my powers were unmatched by any other, and that includes vampires, My Sweet. I've been able to drink from the fountain of youth and have been waiting all this time for you. I knew at some point you would become restless with what you are and you would need me, as I have needed you." Sebastian breathed deeply, his nostrils flaring. “I don't..." "Let me take this slowly. Dear, you look positively ashen ... worse than usual. I watched as you left on your journey to the New World so many years ago with Coronado, and I saw when you returned a changed ... man. If that is what you still want to be called. I've lingered through the slow passage of time, waiting patiently for my powers to increase so they might match yours." He looked at her blankly. “Why?" "Because I want to live with you, silly man. I want to be yours, and for you to be mine. It was I who coaxed your precious Elise to leave and make a new home in America, New Orleans, to be precise." That was too much for him to hear. His mouth dropped. “What?" "My darling, she is much better off, very happy. I see her from time to time.” Olivia looked at him, her eyes hungry and glowing. “My love, I'm the one who adores you. I love you. It just wouldn't do to have her here with us as well. Three is a crowd.” She moved eagerly across the floor toward him. It was obvious everything was slowly soaking in.Men can be so thick, even when they are enlightened vampires! Sebastian frowned as he heard her thoughts. “Back.” Looking down, he noticed the chain no longer bound her ankle and she stepped freely, almost floating above the ground. He fought for control. “You lying ... deceitful..."
"Now, now. Let's not quarrel. It was for the best, and she is fine. You can go visit her ... in time.” She came close and looked up into his eyes. “I love you. I love your amber eyes. I treasure those exquisite lips. I cherish your hair, so long, so dark ... so rich. I worship your strong body, so elegant, so sensual. I want you to possess me, Sebastian. I've wanted it for all ages, ever since I first saw you board Coronado's ship—the hero." He laughed mirthlessly. “Possess you? What more do you want? I'm no demon. I've done what a vampire can do.” Yet as he said the words, he sensed a primeval sensuous ache of sexual desire within his loins the like of which he had not experienced for many years. Not since he himself was a mortal. **** "Sebastian...” She moved closer. Olivia knew she had him. He was almost in the palm of her hand. He needed her ... he ached for her. She could see it all in his eyes, the longing that was there made her heart squeeze. “I'm not evil, Love." "Wait! Have you put a spell on me?” She was so close. Desire coursed through him. Olivia smiled. Her breathing was becoming rapid. She leaned up on tiptoe and kissed him lightly on the lips. “No, I don't need a spell for you. This is as it was meant to be. Don't you see?” She watched as Sebastian took it all in. “Kiss me.” She moved forward again. To Sebastian's surprise he found himself opening his mouth to allow her tongue entry. His fangs had smoothed away, their sharpness gone for now. His arms clutched the small body to him. He could feel her smoothness beneath his hands, and he knew he must have her. He must take her. Sexual desire filled every fiber. The kiss became urgent, animal-like as their bodies were straining together.
Chapter Six Within seconds, Sebastian began ripping at the too tight confines of his clothes. His sharp nails tore at fabric in a mad attempt to be free of restricting attire until he stood naked before her. “Is this what you want? It is what I want, as you can see.” His eyes lowered as he reached down and stroked himself. Olivia's emerald eyes glowed as they slid over his body. “You are truly beautiful, my Sebastian. This is exactly what I want.” She took his hand in her own and led him across the cave. She couldn't help but steal glances at him as they walked together. He was beautiful and was about to be hers forever. His eyes widened in surprise as a bed appeared from the shadows, its enticing comfort tempting him to lie down amongst its softness. “This is madness!” He chuckled and reached out for her, encircling her waist. "No, no, My Darling.” Olivia laughed as he pushed her down to the bed and climbed upon her body, his impatience obvious. “We must take this slowly. I've waited so long for you." **** They kissed slowly, and as the kiss continued, the passage of time was difficult to define. Sebastian wondered how long he had lain there pressing his lips to her and caressing her. It seemed like an eternity. But as he was wondering this, her strong fingers curled around his firmness and stroked him eagerly. “Ah...” he moaned.
"Oh! You're so ready, My Immortal. Enough kissing. I want you inside me now.” Olivia shifted beneath him. She was beyond happy. The intense joy that filled heart was spilling from her.I've waited so long... Hearing her thoughts, Sebastian nodded. “Yes.” His hunger for her knew no bounds at this point. He yearned for the moist confines of her to close tightly around his arousal. He took a deep breath and pushed forward. The squeezing sensation as he entered was delicious. He began moving within her slowly, slipping in as far as he could possibly go. Deep, low grunts emitted from his throat as he felt her contract her muscles around him. Her long slender legs wrapped around his torso, her arms held him tightly. “Faster, Sebastian! Faster, deeper, stronger. Never stop!" He straightened his arms, the muscles rigid and taut. His back arched and his center joined with hers. As he thrust above her he looked down into her beautiful face, alive with hungry pleasure. His hips rammed vigorously, ecstasy making him wild with intense pleasure. He had never known such rapture. He was finally at one with a woman, a witch. This was much more than he had with Elise. She paled in comparison to this new feeling overwhelming him. This had to be magic. With a gasp, he suddenly filled her with his warm seed, not even aware how close he was to his release. “Olivia.” He groaned loudly as he buried his face into the side of her throat and fell against her moist skin, exhausted. Olivia did not release him from her clutches. “Again, My Love!” She held him tightly. “Again!” She knew this couldn't be it. She had expected so much more. He lifted his head to look at her. “Again! Are you serious, Woman?” He could barely catch his breath. Absolute fatigue washed through him. “I'm sorry. I couldn't hold it. It has, well, it has been a long while." She slapped his face angrily. “Do it again! I want you to do it again. I demand it, Sebastian!" "I'm spent, My Dear. This is something a vampire doesn't have much control over, regrettably.” He lay back against the satin pillow. “Unless you can conjure up a spell, I cannot do it again. Not for a while anyway. In this regard, I'm very much like a mortal man. And if you slap me once more, I will hit you." He glared into her eyes. “Hard, and that, My Witch, will be very powerful. I promise you it will hurt." She sat up and pouted. “I didn't know this. "Didn't know what?” He looked at her, confused. "That a vampire is like a man in this way, so fragile. I want more, but I must wait. It's so unfair. I don't like it.” Olivia rolled her eyes. She couldn't believe after all this time she would have to wait for more. Sebastian laughed and took her into his arms, kissing her forehead. She made him feel light and giddy. He hadn't laughed in an age. “Yes, well, I've always heard life is unfair. "But surely this is death?” She gestured dramatically. "Well, death is even more unfair.” He stroked her hair. With a sigh, she joined him in slumber, and together they slept as the moon made its passage across a dark sky.
Chapter Seven
The sound of birds in their morning chorus awoke Sebastian. He sat up in the bed in total alarm; his frightened eyes watching as dappled sunlight spread its evil way across the dirt floor toward him. The roots of the huge tree above them offered no protection and allowed the awful sunlight to travel within the cave. He leapt from the bed with a cry and pressed his shivering naked body against the wall. The orange glow moved closer, and he could feel its dreadful warmth. His shrieks awoke Olivia. “Sebastian, how rude of you to wake me this way.” She grumbled, rubbing sleep from her green eyes. "The sun! The sun! It will kill us!” His voice rose hysterically. "No it won't. You have my protection inside you. You can walk in the sun now, Love.” With this, she tumbled from the bed and sauntered toward the speckled daylight. This is what she looked forward to showing Sebastian. This was her gift to him. “You see, not only did I want your body, I wanted to give you something." Sebastian shrieked inhumanly and covered his eyes, expecting her to turn instantly to ashes. But the sun didn't harm her. She walked from the cave and into the light, its golden glow caressing her white skin. “See.” She turned to him and held out her hand. “Come into the sunlight, my beautiful Sebastian. Join me in its warmth." He crouched in fear, cowering with dread. Death was seconds away. He was sure of it. Olivia walked to him and took his hand firmly in hers and yanked him into the oncoming light. He screamed in horror, closing his eyes and waiting for the terrible burning to begin. But it never happened. Instead he sensed glorious warmth caressing his naked body. He opened his eyes and looked down to see his hand in the bright sunshine. As he watched, the white skin began to gleam pink, alive. Tentatively, he moved his whole body into the light. It was warm and wonderful. It embraced him with its glow. “I can walk in the daylight,” he murmured in amazement. He looked up at the hot sun as it sat amid a brilliant blue sky. His body heated and warmed. He sucked the mild air and filled his cold lungs. Olivia was watching him through narrowed eyes. She slid a hungry glance across his splendid naked form, savoring the broad shoulders, slim hips, and strong thighs. His dark hair hung to his shoulders. “Sebastian. The sight of you fills me with desire." He turned to face her. “And it must be obvious what the sight of you does to me.” Advancing toward her, he pushed her down onto the soft blanket of leaves. He moved on top of her soft warm body and roughly entered her. "Oh! It's so glorious when we are joined this way.” She gasped as he thrust into her. As desire mounted she screamed aloud into the misty morning air sending flocks of startled birds flapping toward the sky. “Yes! Now ... this is.... it! My Love ... my Sebastian..." They climaxed together, rolling in the warm leaves, which clung to their bodies. The sunlight was engulfing them, making them perspire in the gentle morning air. They lay for a while in one another's arms, listening to the birds and their own breathing. It wasn't long before Sebastian's acute ears picked up the
sound of a car, not very far away. Jumping to his feet, he grabbed her hand. “Come." "Sebastian!” She laughed as he raced, dragging her through the tangle of woods. “What has possessed you? Is it the heat from the sun?” Olivia felt her cheeks flush at the thought of them running around outside nude, still smelling of earth and sex, raw and wild. She looked at her vampire and her breath was caught in her throat as she marveled at how beautiful he was. "Look.” Sebastian laughed, pointing to a car moving slowly down the street. “We must feed.” With a joyful shriek they surprised the four young people sitting in a convertible. The thugs looked as though they were up to no good. They swooped upon the terrified misfits and devoured the plentiful, hot, and very luscious blood. They greedily drank every single drop. They walked back towards the cave. “Sebastian, please forgive me for deceiving you as I did, but I knew I couldn't just walk up to you and tell you what I had on my mind. It's not the same with us. Things don't work the way they do in the world of the mortals, you know. I do love you, and I always have. I know that sounds mad to you, but it's true. I feel as though I was destined to be with you." Sebastian turned and gazed down into Olivia's upturned face, running his finger along her jaw line. “You are forgiven, but no more lies. We have a long time to be together, and I want to trust you.” He kissed her lips, tasting the sweet fluid she had just consumed. Hand in hand they strolled back through the woods, the dappled sunlight playing on their naked skin, as they made their way to the beach. The sand was deliciously warm on their feet. "Do you think you could come to love me, Sebastian?" He paused, and smiled. “Yes." Olivia felt her heart almost leap from her chest. She had no idea things would work out as well as they did. She was finally where she wanted to be. “I shall do whatever I can to make you happy." "You've already given me an incredible gift, Sweet One.” He squeezed her hand. "I can do more." He cleared his throat, suddenly feeling overwhelmed by emotion. “I'm impressed.” He teased her, trying to change the mood between them “Your induction into the ways of a vampire has been effortless. You seem to relish it, in fact." "And, My Love, your re-acquaintance with—shall we say carnal delights—has been met with equal gusto." "Vampires that copulate in the sun!” He took her into his arms and whirled her around. "Nothing can harm us. We are gods! Are we not?” Olivia laughed, throwing back her head as he spun her. Sebastian felt a sharp pain of realization hit him in the stomach. “No, hardly gods.” He returned her to the ground gently. "We will be together for always?"
"If you behave yourself!” He laughed, thinking about how he had hoped this witch could help cure him, or help end his miserable existence. "I wonder what the future holds for us. We have much to teach each other, and we have a great deal to learn. We should travel. I have heard much about America lately. I want to go back there, Sebastian. Think about it, a new life befitting our new powers." "It sounds tempting.” He looked out over the sea. “I'll have my man book us passage on the next ship. I don't like to fly." She giggled loudly. “Book passage on a ship? Vampires have need of such sluggish transport?" Sebastian turned and brushed a lock of hair that had blown across Olivia's delicate face. “Ahh! You travel by broomstick, no doubt?" Olivia stuck out her tongue. “I will ignore that statement. But I thought vampires could move through the air?” She watched Sebastian as he spoke, so sure of himself, so regal. She knew her life with him would be an adventure and he would surprise her day in and day out. "We can fly, but it exhausts us. And a journey across an ocean that vast would be almost impossible. You will enjoy a sea voyage, My Dear. The salty air gives one an incredible appetite." Olivia nodded and looked down. “We should clothe ourselves first, don't you think? We can't just walk around in the nude, at least not on this beach.” Her eyes traveled over Sebastian and she was once again struck by her attraction to the man that saved her life, for without him she would have to face the world alone and unloved, and that was something she couldn't live with any longer. Sebastian looked down, horrified. They were both naked in the daylight, walking along the beach. “Yes, well, being in the sunlight will take some getting used to.” He smiled at the creature that saved him from his misery. "It is early. No one is stirring, Love.” Olivia giggled and encircled his waist, nuzzling her face under his chin. He smiled, relaxing somewhat, and kissed the top of her head. He wasn't used to being in the sun. Suddenly, he pushed her away and looked down into her eyes. She fascinated him and made him smile. She had given him the fabulous gift of warmth and light. "So, to America?” She practically jumped up and down. Sebastian nodded. He thought briefly of Miakoda. This could be the time he might find her and Salvador. He had an odd stirring in his heart. He knew somehow that he would find them, with Olivia's help. "Hello? Sebastian?” Olivia tapped him on the forehead. "Yes, My Dear. I'm listening ... America.” He smiled brightly. “It sounds like we are about to set out on a grand adventure." "Yes.” Olivia squeezed him tightly to her. “Who is Salvador?"
"Ah, you can read my mind now?” Sebastian laughed. "Apparently ... and Miakoda?" "Miakoda is my creator, and together we made Salvador." Her eyes widened. “A son, from so long ago?" "Yes, centuries...” his voice trailed off as he looked off into the distance. “I've looked for them, but somehow I don't think I was ready to find them." "But now?" "I think I've accepted my fate now, with your help and with what you've given me, Olivia.” Sebastian turned and smiled at the beautiful creature beaming up at him. “I'm ready." "Well, let's not waste any more time. I think it's time for Salvador to meet his father." "Yes, I think it is time.” Sebastian smiled and leaned forward, kissing Olivia gently on the lips. He had finally found a new life, with a new companion, friend, and lover. At least she was his for now.
