Chapter One August 3010 Rada hated standing in the corner. It made her feel so utterly guilty and out of grace with her husband of nearly ten years. Zade had whispered the command to go directly to their chamber, remove her robe, and place herself in the corner… and that order was given in such a manner that Rada knew she was expected to obey immediately, or Zade would physically escort her to their chamber, regardless of the embarrassment it would cause her in front of their two children. Rada complied immediately. She did not wish to lose her children’s respect. And, she did not wish to upset them needlessly. Tera was the eldest and turned eight on her last birthday. She was a solemn child and sensitive to the emotions of others. One stern look from her Papa was enough to send her to her chamber in tears. Stennot was only five, and he already showed signs of inheriting his parents high Personality Levels. It was acceptable in a male, and Rada could not help but be proud of him. She was also thankful that Tera seemed more biddable. She would not be punished as often as her Mother was… Rada hated standing in the corner. She’d been standing in that particular corner of their chamber for what seemed like hours. And, it was not fair. Saylee needed her help. Her marriage was a disaster. Zade did not think that Rada should interfere, but how could she not speak her mind and defend her friend? It was unfair of Chudz to raise Zade on his communicator and voice his displeasure. It was even more unfair of Zade to send her to the corner without hearing her explanation. She did not speak one word that was untrue. But, here she was, in the corner, and about to be punished for disobeying her husband’s order to ignore her friend’s problems. Like most men, Zade felt the Marriage Committee could do no wrong when it came to matching men and women in marriages. While Rada had to admit that she was very happy, most of the time, she amended, there were a few women who ended up abused… It was not right. Zade entered their chamber and was surprised to find Rada waiting in the corner. It had taken him much longer than he expected to get Tera and Stennot settled in their chambers for the night. “Rada, come and sit with me and we will discuss this matter.” When she turned to face him, he could see that she was very angry. Her green eyes were shooting sparks at him. He did not know if it was the fact she’d been standing so very long, or the situation in general. His little Rada had no liking for Chudz of Castor. “I am sorry you were left waiting so long, Rada. It was not my intention, but both Tera and Stennot needed attention.” “They are asleep now?” Rada asked, disappointed that she was denied the privilege of tucking them in herself as was her habit. Zade suddenly realized that he should have left the matter until the children were settled. Rada was a wonderful mother, and she placed her husband and children before anything else, including her business. “If you wish to say goodnight, wife, please do so and come back. I am sure Tera and Stennot will sleep better with a kiss from their Mother.” Rada hurriedly grabbed a nightwrap and rushed to hug her children and remind them of her love. Tera asked her if she was well, and Rada smiled and reassured her that she was fine. Stennot was almost asleep and endured her hug and kiss with a sloppy grin.
He looked so much like Zade that it was easy for Rada to picture her husband as a child. Rada felt happier now that she had tucked in her little ones and returned to her chamber, anxious to speak with her husband. “Thank you, Zade,” she said, smiling at him. He was as handsome as ever; in nearly ten years he’d added a touch of gray at the temple, but it simply made him more appealing. Zade was strong and virile, and he was all hers. Rada couldn’t help but feel desire course through her body as she gazed upon him as he sat upon their bed, waiting for her to return. Even after two children, she desired him, and neither had any complaints about their marriage bed. “The children should not go to sleep without their mother’s kiss, and I will remember that in the future,” he solemnly promised. “Their mother needs their hugs and kisses, too,” Rada admitted in a soft voice. “You are a wonderful mother, Rada,” Zade said sincerely. “Thank you, Zade.” Rada leaned down and gave him a kiss. “I happen to think our children are lucky to have you for a father. You spend a lot of time with them, and they love you so much.” “I lost my parents when I was young. I want to be more than a picture and a name,” he confided. “I want to be a father and share in my children’s upbringing. I want to know them.” “They love you, darling.” Rada hugged him. “We are fortunate to have a wonderful family.” Zade smiled, returning his wife’s hug. He tugged her down to sit on his lap, and then said, “We have to discuss this matter with Chudz and Saylee of Castor, Rada.” “I would very much like to discuss the situation, husband. I do not feel I have behaved inappropriately.” “You have disobeyed me, Rada. You were told that their marital problems are none of our business, and you were told not to involve yourself. You not only involved yourself, you raised your voice to Chudz and made threats. He was livid, and you could be given a fault. You did not behave as I would have my wife behave. I am not happy, Rada, and you will be punished this night, and you will receive a reminder daily for the next week that you are to mind your own business.” “You are not being fair, Zade,” Rada said firmly. “How am I not to involve myself when I am visiting with Saylee and Chudz comes home and berates her in front of me:? He accused her of things she did not do, and I knew she was innocent because she was with me at the time. He refused to listen to Saylee, and when I tried to support her innocence, he grew even more livid and sent Saylee to get a punishment mat, and he made her kneel on it in the corner! I told him he was being unfair, and that Saylee was innocent. He ordered me to leave, and I lost my temper. I told him he should have to face a public punishment for mistreating his wife. I am not sorry for what I said, and I think their marriage should be dissolved. The Marriage Committee made a huge mistake by permitting Chudz to marry Saylee.” “That is not for you to say, Rada. The Marriage Committee is made up of highly trained men and women, and these decisions are made after careful deliberation. If Saylee is troubled then it is not your counsel she should be seeking, but her Father’s.” “Her Father is ill, and she fears the shame of a divorce would be too hard on him. Zade, Saylee is my friend. I cannot pretend not to notice that she is being mistreated.”
“Chudz gave me the opportunity to deal with you myself instead of asking for a warrant. If this went before a panel of Judges, a fault would be issued against you. This is a serious matter. It is against the law for anyone to interfere in a marriage. What is between a husband and wife is theirs to settle.” “Have you no compassion for Saylee?” Rada asked angrily. “Do you think it acceptable for Chudz to mistreat her?” “Chudz informed me there are issues that you are unaware of, Rada. Perhaps Saylee was not as forthcoming as she should have been.” “Saylee is one of the most honest people I know!” Rada argued. “Chudz is lying!” “Stop, Rada! I will not permit this kind of talk. You will go to our closet and remove the punishment strap and bring it to me. I am sad to say that you have earned a serious correction, and it is best administered here in our home rather than ordered by the Panel of Judges and give in public for all to witness.” “Oh no, Zade!” Rada’s face paled. In the years since they married the strap had hung on its hook, and had never been used for punishment. Zade used his hand for most infractions, and a paddle for more serious issues, but the punishment strap they’d received during their marriage ceremony had never been used. “Please, Zade! I did nothing wrong!” she appealed to her stern-faced husband. “You disobeyed me, Rada. You challenged Chudz and you interfered in the disciplining of his wife. Those actions are serious, and will not be repeated. If you continue to stand there and argue with me, you will receive extra with the strap. Get it, and bring the paddle, too. You will be soundly punished tonight, and you will receive a reminder each night for the next week. During that time, you are not permitted any contact at all with Saylee. Is that clear?” “You are being mean, Zade,” Rada whispered. Her green eyes were full of anger, and there were tears there as well, making them look strange. “It is my duty to protect you. It does not give me pleasure to have to be severe with you, Rada, but you have indeed earned a serious punishment. Perhaps a taste of the strap will make you want to avoid it in the future.” He pointed toward the closet, and Rada reluctantly walked over and took down the strap. It felt heavy, and she was positive it was going to be the worst punishment of her marriage to this point. “Stop stalling, Rada. You are just making this strapping longer with each moment you delay,” Zade promised. “I do not think this is fair,” she told him, stomping her foot. “The paddle…?” Zade reminded her. Rada took it out of the drawer and winged it at his head. Not a particularly smart thing to do under the circumstances, but her temper demanded satisfaction of some sort, and the small gesture seemed to help, until Zade caught the brush and gave her a dark look, which promised her she would regret her actions. “That bit of childishness has earned you another spanking on top of what you have already earned, Rada. Take off your nightrobe and place yourself over my knee. And not one more word!” he warned when he could see that she was going to argue with him. Rada slowly disrobed. She was going to get a serious spanking, and there was not one thing she could do to prevent it. She had already made it worse, and nothing she said
now was going to make a favorable impression. This was one of those times that she truly hated being married. Spankings hurt, and Zade was very good at administering them whenever he felt the need, and he felt that need all too often to suit her. With no other option left to her, Rada walked over to the bed where Zade was waiting, and placed herself in the humiliating position, face-down over his lap. Her upper torso was on the bed, and if she had to be spanked, it was at least a fairly comfortable position. Zade did not waste any time. He started with the paddle, and Rada let out a squeal of pain. He smiled grimly. He wanted her to understand that he meant business. Rada tried to roll off Zade’s lap, but he had his left arm wrapped around her small waist, and held her snugly against his body. She wasn’t going anywhere at all! Rada could not believe he was starting off with the paddle! He never did that. He always used his hand first! She had no idea until now just how much his hand prepared her skin for that wooden paddle! This was excruciating, and she couldn’t stand it!! “Stop, Zade! You are hurting me!” “That is the entire purpose, my love. You need a sharp lesson, and one you will remember. Did I not make my feelings completely clear to you on this particular subject?” The paddle cracked repeatedly on her rounded cheeks, and after just a few smacks, her delicate, pale skin was a bright, angry red. “Well?” he demanded when she did not answer. “Yes, you did!” Rada gasped. “Please, Zade…! This is unbearable!” “We have barely started, Rada. You disregarded my wishes, and you infuriated Chudz. I will not permit my wife to behave in such a disgraceful manner.” “It was not my fault, Zade!” Rada protested. “Chudz was in the wrong. Was I to stand by and do nothing when he was being cruel? Owwww! Ohhh, OW! You are killing me, and I hate you, Zade of Zimitri!” Rada’s temper took control of her mouth. “Stop this at once!” Zade ignored her demands, and they were soon replaced with pleas, and finally with promises of good behavior. His little Rada was sounding more and more repentant with every crack of the paddle on her sore and stinging bottom. Her sit spot was just as red as her cheeks, and her upper thighs were coloring nicely. Zade didn’t stop until the tears were genuine. “Now, young lady, are you ready to be reasonable?” “Yes, sir,” Rada replied through her tears. Her bottom was on fire, and she simply couldn’t tolerate any more of the paddle on her battered bottom. She just wanted the punishment to stop. “Very well. Do you realize how close you came to being presented with a warrant? You will receive the punishment strap for that reason alone, Rada, and I will not be gentle. You need to imagine how you would feel if the fault was issued and you were required to endure this in a public location. Up on your hands and knees and stick out your bottom so I have a nice target.” “No! Oh please, Zade. Do not use the strap! I am so sore already! I could not bear for you to strap me! Please…? I will behave more circumspectly if only you do not use the strap. Please…?” she begged, her lovely green eyes full of tears. “You have earned this lesson, Rada. Begging and pleading will not change that fact. Let us have it done.” Rada tried to think of something she could say to postpone the spanking, but Zade wasn’t having it. He was determined to use the punishment strap on her flaming
bottom and there was nothing she could say to persuade him otherwise. Tearfully, she got into position. Zade paddled her this way upon occasion, and it was for the punishments that were the most painful, the ones he wanted to make a lasting impression so they would not have to be repeated. “It pains me to be severe with you, Rada,” Zade said, then put his hand on the small of her back to hold her in place. The first crack of the leather on Rada’s flaming skin caused her to cry out in shocked surprise and pain. Zade hated the large welt the paddle left, and knew that Rada couldn’t take very many with the paddle. He hoped she made a sincere apology soon. Rada screamed when the second blow landed. It hurt so much worse than she had anticipated, and she simply could not bear the searing pain. “No more, Zade! I beg you…! No more…!” The punishment strap found her sit spot the next time it fell, and Rada collapsed on the bed. She lie there sobbing incoherently for what seemed like an hour but was more like ten minutes. She prayed they were done. Zade had not offered her comfort, and she feared he was simply waiting on her to compose herself. “You have three more, Rada. Get into position so we can finish this.” Zade felt like an ass. He felt mean, but he knew the lesson was needed. If the matter were referred to a panel of Judges, Rada would likely receive a minimum of fifty. On her delicate skin, a punishment of that duration could break the skin. He had to impress upon her the severity of the situation and teach her to control her tongue. Chudz was an angry man. He placed his hand on Rada’s back once more and gave her another whack. When Rada tried to collapse on the bed, he did not permit it. He wrapped his arm around her waist and held her up so she could not avoid the next two licks. He had to get them over with so that he did not give in to her tears. Rada cried out twice more as the punishment strap left wide welts on her upper thighs and sit spot. It was the worst punishment of her marriage and it left her feeling raw emotionally. When Zade released her, she wrapped her arms around her pillow, curled into a ball, and sobbed as if her heart was breaking. In a way it was. She felt that Zade didn’t truly understand. Zade permitted Rada to cry for a while, and then he said softly. “We still have your disrespect to deal with, wife. You threw a paddle at me in a fit of temper. I have never permitted you to behave in this manner, and you can be sure I will not permit it tonight either. You can roll over, Rada. I will not be harsh since you are obviously in pain, but I expect you to take this spanking with respect.” “I am so sorry, Zade…! Please, this one time, could you not forgive me?” she pleaded. “Not this time, Rada. You need to realize that I will be obeyed and you will show me respect at all times. Do not fuss at me any longer. You have already added ten extra.” Rada blanched, but she quickly turned over so that her bottom was upper most. The paddle cracked loudly. Zade counted each smack, and scolded in between. All Rada could do was sob into her pillow, which she clutched to her as if her very life depended on not letting go. When Zade reached ten, he stopped and said, “That is the extent of the spanking I planned to give you, Rada, but your arguing over it earned you ten more. I’m going to give them quickly, and all to your thighs. I expect you to hold still.”
Rada held her breath and lost it in a whoosh when the paddle left another burning imprint on her right thigh. The spanking was horrible, but somehow she made it through. She was dimly aware of Zade putting the punishment strap and the paddle where they belonged. He used the facility and put out the lights, then got into bed with her and took her in his arms. She was still crying, and he rocked her gently. “I hated that, my love,” he whispered. “I love you so much, and it would break my heart to see you suffer through that in public. Please respect my wishes on this matter.” Rada permitted Zade to hold her and comfort her. The tears on his cheek were not hers, and she felt an ache deep within that he was in such pain from punishing her. She knew her husband loved her and she was sure that nothing would ever change that. Somehow she just knew that Zade would help Saylee if he came down to it. In the meantime, she was going to have to watch herself in front of her husband. The next morning before he left for his offices, Zade made a point of reminding Rada that she was not to communicate with Saylee at all. Rada nodded in acceptance. What else could she do? She spent the morning with her children, then made sure that Tera and Stennot made it to school for their classes, and while they were in school, Rada went to Floral Reflections, the business she started right after she and Zade married. The shop was very busy, and Rada stood back and watched as her employees took care of everything. Sometimes the other women made her feel so unnecessary. “Hello!” she called out when the customers cleared the shop. “Busy again today, I see!” “Yes,” Marla replied. “If you have time, we need more of your creations. They do sell the best.” Rada smiled and spent the next several hours making arrangements to sell. She grew most of the flowers in her own greenhouses and gardens, and since her work was excellent, her reputation grew and the business was very successful. She also helped friends with their parties, receptions, and business events. Rada was proud of the fact that she’d build the business on her abilities, and that her husband was truly proud of her. His company was one of her biggest clients. When it was nearly time for school to end for the day, Rada bade everyone good day and went to pick up her children. Sitting in the transport was extremely difficult, but she forced a smile to her face and endured the discomfort until they arrived at Lissa’s home. “Come in, come in,” Lissa greeted them, bending down to kiss and hug her niece and nephew. “Deema has Niph and Kelf in the playroom. Why don’t you go and join them,” she invited the children. They ran to see their cousins, and Lissa said, “I have made us a pot of tea. Shall we sit in the kitchen?” she asked. “How soft are the cushions in there?” Rada asked with a grimace. “I endured Zade’s displeasure last evening.” “Oh, Rada… I am so sorry! What happened, if you wish to share…?” Lissa did not wish to pry. Alexander would not approve if she made her brother’s wife uncomfortable. “I disobeyed him on an issue he feels strongly about,” Rada replied. “I feel he is wrong, but a wife must obey.” “Alex insists on obedience, too. Most husbands do,” Lissa remarked, looking at her sister-in-law. “Is the matter ended? Do you intend to comply now?”
“I honestly do not know, Lissa,” Rada replied openly, her upset showing clearly. Lissa made sure to put an extra pillow on the seat for Rada, and the two women visited until it was time for Rada to head home. Although Zade did not require she be home when he arrived, he appreciated it when she was waiting for him. He was always anxious to share his day and hear about her day. He enjoyed spending time with his children and Rada enjoyed watching him with them as she prepared a dinner for them all. Zade was pleased to see that Rada was smiling and did not seem to bear a grudge. She accounted for her day, and he was pleased to learn that she’d obeyed him and avoided her friend Saylee. He felt it was important for Chudz to have time to cool his temper. Zade knew he would defend Rada to the maximum possible, but he did not think he could bear for her to be faulted. Her outspokenness regarding the Marriage Committee could very well get her into serious trouble. Once the children were safely tucked into their beds for the night, Zade took Rada’s hand and escorted her to their chamber. “What, Zade?” Rada looked at him with a smile. “Have you forgotten that you are due a week of reminder spankings, wife?” When her face flushed and her eyes widened, he was stunned to realize that she had indeed forgotten.
Chapter Two Rada did not bother to hide her dismay from her husband. She was already so very sore that she could not bear the thought of another spanking, especially a full week of them! It was impossible! “Please do not, Zade! I am extremely sore from last evening’s punishment. The Punishment Strap left marks,” she whispered. “I do not like this any better than you do, Rada, and if I did not feel it necessary, I would not treat you so harshly. However, I do feel it is necessary. I am pleased you honored my request that you avoid Saylee today, and now you will show me the same respect by removing your robe and coming to me for your reminder.” Rada felt tears sting her eyes. “May I please use the facility first, husband?” she asked. Knowing Zade as well as she did, once the spanking was over, he would insist she go straight to bed and dwell on her punishment. It was meant to be a firm week, one to teach her to control her tongue and not interfere in a marriage, especially when her husband forbade such behavior. He was within his rights to insist upon this, but it did not mean that Rada had to agree or like what he had to say. In fact, she fully intended to make it clear that she did not approve of the reminders. They were not at all necessary! The punishment she had received last night would be with her for a full week, at least! Sitting this day had been very painful, and if he added to her discomfort, she would not be able to sit at all without extreme anguish. Zade nodded his permission, and watched as Rada hurried off to relieve herself. He wished he could give her a reprieve, and just send her to bed early for the week, but he knew from experience that she would only lie in bed, feeling resentful and plot her next misbehavior if he did not give her ample reason to consider her actions. She was a Level Ten, and spirited enough to warrant a correction fairly often, and he took his responsibility as her husband very seriously. He had seriously hated using the Punishment Strap on her delicate skin, but if the harsh lesson would remind her to control her tongue around Chudz, then Zade would consider it well worth the pain it caused him to wield the strap. He waited patiently for her to return from the facility. He could hear water flowing and knew that Rada was stalling for as long as humanly possible. He would stall, too, if he was already sore and had more pain to endure, and he wondered if she was planning a strategy for talking him out of the week of reminders. It would not be the first time she had done so. Finally, Rada appeared, completely nude, and holding her head high. She looked beautiful with her long red hair falling in curls around her shoulders and he abruptly realized that his wife was aware of the affect her beauty would have upon him. Zade could see by her expression that she was counting on his arousal to weaken his resolve, and he could see by her expression that she was prepared to fight with him! He decided to prevent a match of strength and wills before it started. She would come to him of her own volition for the reminder; he would not play the part of an ancient cowboy and drag her over his knee! This was not the way he would conduct his marriage! “Rada, I am well aware that you do not wish to be spanked right now. I can sympathize with the fact you are already sore. However, the reminder is going to happen tonight, and every night for seven nights straight. You can either cooperate and show me that you are compliant and aware that I will be obeyed in this matter regarding the House
of Castor, or you can argue and be defiant, and turn a simple reminder into a full punishment each night. If you choose the latter, you will be paddled, and given five strokes with the Punishment Strap. If you are obedient, you will only receive my hand each night. That obedience includes coming to me and placing yourself over my lap and accepting your spanking without argument. The choice is yours, Rada, but I would consider the options carefully. You know how sore you are right now, and the paddle and Punishment Strap will make you regret any show of stubbornness.” He paused to let that sink in, and was dismayed to see the challenge and dare still lurking in the green depths of her eyes. He did the only thing he could do to try and make it easier on both of them, “You may go and stand in the corner now, and think seriously about your choice.” Rada did not wish to go to the corner, but if she did not do so, Zade would likely consider her disobedient and the paddle and the Punishment Strap would come out immediately. Her poor bottom was too sore to endure the paddle, and she never wanted to feel the Punishment Strap across her backside ever again! It was terrible. She chose to walk over to the corner without so much as one word of protest. It did make her angry, however, that she was not going to be permitted to give her carefully worded speech. She truly felt it was unfair of Zade not to give her the opportunity to tell him she did not need nightly reminders! She was no longer a young girl, newly married. She was a grown woman, and a mother with responsibilities. She was not about to disobey her husband without a good reason. However, she did consider her friend Saylee as a very good reason! Why could her husband not see that and understand her concern? Why should he support that horrible Chudz? Zade was proud of himself for stopping Rada’s rebellion before it became necessary to take out the paddle and the Punishment Strap. The thought of giving her five more with that Strap made him feel ill. He had no idea how other women endured its bite. Of course, Rada’s skin was extremely delicate. He hoped he did not have to take it out of its place in the closet again. It was much too severe, and once again, he wondered how his little sister endured her husband’s displeasure when he used the Punishment Strap. While it rarely happened, he was aware each time it did because his sister did not sit well for several days. Zade decided he would give Rada more time to think, and went to check on their children. He liked to know they were sound asleep at night, and to tell the truth, he enjoyed standing beside their beds watching them sleep. They were beautiful children, and he felt so blessed to have them. Watching over them gave him pleasure, and he looked in on them every night, just to make sure they slept well. Rada heard Zade leave the room, and presumed he was checking on Tera and Stennot. He did that every night to be sure they were in their beds and sound asleep. When he returned shortly, she was absolutely positive that was what occupied him. A few more minutes passed, and Rada was growing impatient to have it done. It was awful to have to stand in the corner and anticipate just how much the spanking was going to hurt on her tender butt. She wished she could call out to Zade and tell him she would take her spanking well, but she feared he would be upset if she did so. “Rada, you are fidgeting, and I doubt you are thinking as you are supposed to be doing,” he said in disapproval.
“I have made my decision, husband, and I would have the spanking done rather than dread it longer, please? I will cooperate and avoid a serious punishment,” she promised. Zade was pleased with her words, and that it took her less time to reach that conclusion than he thought it would. “Very well,” he said. “Come now and put yourself across my lap. As you said, dreading the spanking is often worse than the spanking itself, and this is only a reminder, if you keep your promise and cooperate.” “I will cooperate,” Rada said as she crossed the room and crawled over his lap, offering her bottom for the reminder he thought she needed. “May I hold a pillow, Zade?” she asked. Her upper body was on the bed, but it would help her keep her hands out of the way if he permitted her to hug a pillow. Zade pulled a pillow down and gave it to her. “I expect you to keep your hands out of the way, Rada,” he said firmly, knowing full well that the pillow would help, but realizing that she was so sore that her good intentions might be for naught once he started the spanking. “I will try, husband,” she said, anxious to say and do anything to make this reminder less painful. Zade was nothing if not thorough. She would be crying and begging him to stop a long time before he did. “Why are you being spanked tonight, Rada?” he asked. “To remind me to obey you and not interfere in Saylee’s marriage. You worry that Chudz will file a warrant and I will be faulted.” “It is important that you obey me in this matter, wife. Do you understand? I would not have you bared and strapped in public. Your skin would be cut to ribbons from fifty lashes with the Punishment Strap that is used by the Courts. It is heavier than the one hanging on our door. You will be sore this week, but you will recover.” Rada held her breath, knowing that the spanking was to start, and start it did! “Owww!” she cried out. “Owww, not so hard, Zade! Please! You are killing me! I am so sore already…!Not there!” she screamed when he spanked her sit spot. The worst of the spanking was centered there last night, and it only took a couple of spanks on each side to make her cry. Zade knew the spanking hurt. He was not spanking hard, but Rada was so sore she was carrying on like he was spanking her full strength! He hated making her cry, but Zade did not stop spanking until he was sure the reminder would sting a good long while. Rada was sobbing when Zade decided to end the chastisement. And, just as she suspected, he gave her a hug and a kiss, then tucked her into her side of the bed, and told her to go to sleep. She had nothing to do but lie there and feel the spanking as it burned, and think about why she was spanked and sent directly to bed for the night, and dread that it would happen again tomorrow night. And it did. By the fourth day, Rada found herself dreading bedtime, and she did everything possible to delay putting the children to bed. Her poor bottom was unbearably sore, and she could not sit at all. She had begged Lissa’s help with the children, asking her to take them to and from school earlier that day so she would not have to sit in the transport. She was also working at home, and having her employees bring her supplies and pick up her creations. She knew they were curious, but she did not give them the satisfaction of an explanation. While she did not mind confiding in Lissa, it was no one else’s business that she was enduring Zade’s displeasure.
Tonight would be her fifth spanking in a row, with three more to go to finish out a week of reminders. How would she endure this? But even worse was the fact she was forbidden to contact Saylee. She missed her so much. It was so unfair. Chudz was cruel to Saylee, and just because she defended her friend, they were both suffering the separation, and Rada feared that Saylee was being punished, too. Zade finally frowned and told Rada it was past the children’s bedtime. He helped her tuck them in, but when he looked for Rada in their chamber, he could not find her. Frowning, he went to the social room, and his study. Finally, he looked in the kitchen, and found her drinking a glass of wine. “What are you doing, wife? You are supposed to be in our chamber waiting for your reminder, not standing out here drinking wine.” “I am hoping the wine deadens the pain, husband. I cannot stand much more. It has been constant for five whole days now, and I am at my limit. I cannot function as Tera’s and Stennot’s mother, and had to ask Lissa to take them to school for me and pick them up. Marla is bringing work to and from Floral Reflections for me. And the one person who offers me sympathy is forbidden to me, and it is not fair. I have been obedient to you, and I will be obedient to you this night, but it is not fair, Zade.” She quickly downed the rest of her wine, and was very thankful that she was a person who did not handle drink well. She wished to be numb and to fall into a deep sleep after she was spanked to avoid the painful burning that seemed to seep into her soul this time. She was not wrong about Chudz. “I fear that Saylee is enduring worse than I am. At least I know that I am loved, and your only wish with this week of reminders is to try and protect me, but I am afraid for her, and do not even have the reassurance of hearing her voice on my communicator.” Rada wept. “I am ready to get this over with this night, Zade.” She took a step, tripped, and would have fallen if Zade had not swept her up into his strong arms. Zade carried his wife to their chamber, undressed her, and put her to bed. She could not handle spirits of any kind, and to learn that she was drinking wine to lessen her pain made him feel sick. He made sure their home was secured for the night, then he undressed and lie down beside Rada, holding her in his arms. When Rada woke the next morning, her memory came flooding back, and she closed her eyes in disbelief. Surely she had not said all of those things? Zade would be so disappointed in her, and she would be extremely lucky if he accepted her apology and did not take out the paddle and the Punishment Strap. She got out of bed, and cleaned herself and dressed. Zade was sound asleep, and she went to check on the children. They were still asleep, too, and she was shocked to realize it was very early. Rada knew how much her husband loved old-fashioned rolls, and she would make them for breakfast, and add a touch of sugar and cinnamon. He enjoyed this, but Rada normally fixed it on Sundays, or Holidays, when he was going to be home for the day. Hopefully, he would accept her offering as an apology, and perhaps he would give her the reminder this morning before he left for the day, and today’s reminder at bedtime. She was simply going to have to be brave and obedient. The rolls were baking when Zade joined her in the kitchen, his hair tousled from sleep. “It is early, wife. What smells so delicious?” he asked her as he leaned down to kiss her good morning. “I am making your favorite… sweet old-fashioned rolls… and an egg and mushroom dish.” She lowered her eyes, and admitted, “It is my way of apologizing to
you for last night’s disrespect. I am very sorry, husband, and I will take the reminder this morning, and the one for today this night. I will not touch the wine again. It makes me…” “Speak the truth?” Zade finished for her, and then pulled her into his arms. “I am sorry I was too harsh with you, wife. I would not have you turning to wine for comfort or protection. If you are so sore you cannot sit at all, even to see to our children, then you have been spanked more than enough,” he told her. “I know you miss your friend, too, and I know it is not fair to either of you to insist you refrain from contact this week. I do fear Chudz will be angry enough to file a warrant, Rada, and I will not let that happen. My desire is to protect, not punish you by the restriction. Do you understand?” he asked. “Yes, Zade,” she said with a smile. “Will you honor your promise without the rest of the reminders I promised?” he asked kindly. “Yes, husband, I promise I will obey you and not contact Saylee until you give permission to do so.” She hated the promise, but she would honor it. She was pleased with her husband. “I do regret my behavior last night,” she told him once again. “It was not well done of me to use wine in that manner, and I will not do that again.” “I will have more care as well, little one.” He caressed her cheek. “I would not turn into Chudz and be deemed cruel in my wife’s eyes.” “You could never be cruel, Zade. Your lesson was given with love and a concern for my well-being. I have never doubted that,” she assured him. “Even though it was ‘not fair’?” He smiled. Rada felt her cheeks turn red, but she was ever truthful with her husband, “The spanking was fair. It is only losing my confidante that is not fair, even though I understand the necessity.” Zade nodded in understanding, and then leaned down to kiss her tenderly. “I think the lesson was well-learned, wife. Can we move on now with no hard feelings?” She hugged him tightly, and that is how Tera found them a few moments later. She giggled, and asked, “Papa, may I have a hug, too?” Zade swept her up and gave her a big hug, and Rada laughed happily. It was so nice to be in her husband’s good graces once again. Zade enjoyed the sweet old-fashioned rolls, and was delighted to see his children were enjoying the treat, too. When it was time to leave, there were more hugs and kisses, and Zade left the house, positive he and his family were in tune with each other, and that his lovely wife would behave. Rada made sure the house was thoroughly cleaned, since she could not sit down without great discomfort, and she played a game of Seeking with her children. Her own sweet Mother came by to visit with her and the grandchildren, and Rada was very happy to see her. Diki frowned when she realized her daughter could not sit down, but she nodded in sympathetic understanding when Rada told her why. “I do not know why the men in our society think the Marriage Committee can do no wrong,” Diki stated her belief, which matched her daughter’s. Some women are not treated well, in spite of all the testing. There should be some way to end a marriage that is not well. I do not believe in staying with a man who is cruel.”
“Oh, Mother, I do so wish you could convince Zade of that. He is adamant that I not involve myself in Saylee’s marriage, but how can I turn a blind eye when she is being treated unfairly?” “I understand how you feel, Rada, but your first responsibility is to your husband. You must obey him, especially if Chudz of Castor is angry enough with your interference to file a warrant. A public punishment would be so severe, and completely humiliating for you, as well as for your husband… and your parents. The best thing Saylee can do is speak with her family and permit them to help her.” “She should be able to speak for herself, Mother!” Rada angrily declared. “I agree, Rada.” Diki nodded, then sighed. “There should be a time during the first couple years of marriage when the couple is visited by the Marriage Committee, and if things are not deemed well, the marriage is dissolved without involving family members.” “Mother, what you are saying is so sensible. Perhaps Father could express this at a Public Opinion Meeting?” Diki smiled sadly, “Harlan does not share my view, daughter. His thinking is in line with your Zade’s.” Rada stomped her foot in temper. “Men!” “I’m going to be a man; Papa said so!” Stennot looked up at his Mother and Grandmother with a happy smile. “Yes, you are, my darling!” Rada agreed with a smile for her five-year-old. “You are already growing tall like your Papa,” Diki told him. “And you are already going to school!” “Yes, and it is almost time to leave. Stennot, please go and tell Tera to come along,” Rada said, and smiled when he ran to get his sister. “I will take the children for you, Rada. I know you are much too sore to enjoy using the transporter.” “Are you sure you do not mind, Mother?” Rada asked hopefully. She did not wish to impose upon Lissa again today. “I do not mind, and it would give me pleasure to pick them up and take them home for the night, and keep them all day tomorrow, since there is no school,” Diki offered. “There is no need to pack a bag since I have clothing there for them both.” The children often stayed with her parents, and Rada did not mind at all. She knew her mother and father loved having them visit. “Are you sure that Father has nothing planned?” she asked. “I spoke with him this morning, and it was agreed upon to ask for Tera and Stennot.” Diki smiled. “We just talked of other things and I nearly forgot to ask.” She laughed at herself. The matter was all settled, and the only problem occurred when Stennot wanted to go directly to his grandparents’ home without going to school first. Rada was firm and told the little boy that if he did not go to school and exhibit his good manners, then only Tera would be permitted to visit with their Grandparents, and he would be spending his time at home in his chamber, with little to do. Stennot immediately made the choice to go to school, and Diki smiled at her daughter. Rada was a good mother, and definitely made of sterner stuff than she.
Rada decided to treat herself to a nice hot bath, and soak her sore and aching backside. She was not permitted the use of a healing salve, but bathing was permitted, of course. The warmth of the water was beneficial, and Rada did long to sit without pain. Her feet were aching from standing so much during the last few days. As she soaked, Rada made plans for the evening ahead. She would fix a lovely meal, and serve it in front of the fireplace in the social room. She and her husband had not joined together in nearly a week, and she was anxious to find pleasure in his arms, as well as give him pleasure. When she was punished and sent to bed, Zade did not turn to her as he usually did. It was hard on them both, and she hoped he was agreeable to her plan for the evening. A nice meal, and a long intimate session of lovemaking. Since tomorrow was also a day of rest for businesses, they would not have to worry about getting enough rest to face their daily responsibilities. Somehow her sweet mother always seemed to sense when she most needed a night alone with her husband. As Rada was preparing one of Zade’s favorite’s her communicator rang, and she quickly answered it, expecting to hear her husband’s or mother’s voice. “Rada, it is Saylee…”
Chapter Three Rada decided to treat herself to a nice hot bath, and soak her sore and aching backside. She and her husband had not joined together in nearly a week, and she was anxious to find pleasure in his arms… as well as give him pleasure. “Rada, it is Saylee…” Rada did not know what to say. She was forbidden to visit with her best friend, and she was not to use her communicator to contact her, but Zade did not say she could not answer if she rang. “How are you, Saylee?” she asked, putting down what she was doing to give her friend her complete attention. “I am miserable, Rada,” Saylee’s voice came to her. “I fear that Chudz is insane. He truly hates you and is blaming you for my lack of submission to our marriage. I fear you need to be watchful.” “Oh Saylee, I wish you could petition the Marriage Council to have this union dissolved before you come to serious harm.” “I cannot. And, I have no family willing to act in my behalf.” “I wish I could help.” “You will do nothing!” Chudz of Castor’s voice hissed angrily. “I have warned you for the last time!” The call ended abruptly. Rada cried helplessly, fearing for her friend. She knew there was nothing she could do to help her, but it did not stop her from caring. She wiped her eyes and blew her nose, then turned her attention to creating a wonderful meal for Zade. She was relieved to hear him come inside their home, and she hurried to meet him. She put her arms around his neck, and greeted him with a loving kiss. Zade was not fooled. He could feel his lovely wife’s body trembling. He held her close, and asked, “What is troubling you, little Rada?” She looked up at him with tear-filled green eyes, and said candidly. “I feel so lucky to have you for my husband, Zade. You never let a day go by without making me feel very loved. I feel safe and protected when I am with you. I am truly a lucky woman.” She shuddered, and when Zade held her even closer she relaxed. “Thank you for being so good to me,” she whispered emotionally. “What has happened, Rada?” He encouraged her to speak. “My communicator rang as I was preparing our meal, and it was Saylee calling,” she admitted, hoping she would not find herself in disgrace with Zade for answering the
call. “She only wished to warn me that Chudz is still very angry and full of hate towards me. She is miserable. And, now, I fear she is in even more disgrace. Chudz found her speaking with me, and was furious.” “You did not make this call, wife?” Zade inquired, wanting to be sure she had not defied his express orders. “No, Zade, I did not. I did not examine the screen to see who was calling before I answered. I assumed it was you or Mother. Mother has the children for the night,” she explained, “and I thought perhaps there was a question she needed for me to answer regarding Stennot or Tera.” Rada hesitated, and then added, “I would not deliberately disobey you, Zade, especially when I was so looking forward to this night.” “You cannot be held responsible for Saylee’s actions,” Zade said calmly, very pleased he would not find it necessary to punish Rada again so soon. He deliberately changed the subject, “What smells so wonderful?” he asked, sniffing the air in anticipation. Rada smiled and said, “All of your favorites, husband. It will be a while yet if you would like the opportunity to become more comfortable.” “That would be lovely,” he admitted, his dark eyes taking note of the fact that she was wearing one of his favorite robes and her hair was shining and smelled delicious. She had obviously gone to the trouble of planning a very special evening for the two of them, and he was as anxious as she to spend some time alone, making love. He always missed that part of their marriage when she was being punished. “I will not be long, lovely Rada,” he promised with a wink. “Thank you for thinking of a romantic evening.” He gave her a gentle, loving kiss, and then hurried off to their chamber, anxious to change out of his business suit. Rada took advantage of the time to light the candles on the low table in front of the fireplace. Everything was just right, and dinner would be ready shortly. She served their appetizers first, along with a beverage she was positive her husband would appreciate. “This is very nice, Rada,” Zade complimented her as he came into the social room. He took a seat on his soft pillow, and had to smile to himself as he realized that one of his lovely redhead’s reasons for choosing to serve their meal in the social room was due to her sore bottom. Sitting on the comfortable cushions at the low table would be much easier on her aching bottom than sitting in the dining room, or even at the table in the kitchen. He also found it very comfortable and romantic, and he couldn’t fault her for wanting to enjoy the evening as much as possible. Rada found Zade’s company the very best, and dinner was a huge success. She was in the process of serving their dessert when the door alert sounded. She knew that Zade would attend the matter, and she only hoped it was not one of his siblings coming for an unannounced visit. While she loved his family, she truly wanted this evening to be for the two of them. “Rada, would you come at once, please?” She heard Zade call to her. She put a forced smile on her face, determined to be pleasant and do nothing to bring disgrace upon herself. She was married to a man with many business interests, and he would expect her to be polite to anyone who arrived at their door. “Yes, Zade?” she announced her presence, shocked to see two Enforcers standing in the large foyer dressed in their blue uniforms.
“Rada, these Officers wish to question you,” Zade said formally, taking her hand in his to offer support. “Are you Rada, of the House of Zimitri?” the female Enforcer asked politely. “Yes, I am.” Rada’s heart was pounding. “Please tell me nothing is wrong with my parents or my children…?” she demanded. “No, Madame, we are not here for anything of that nature,” the other Enforcer quickly reassured her, and smiled when Rada visibly relaxed. “However, a warrant has been filed by Chudz of Castor.” He handed her the formal complaint, requiring she appear before the Courts. Zade took the warrant from Rada and quickly read it over, then shook his head. “Officers, this charge is bogus. I can prove such to you,” he stated. “Please come this way.” He led the way to the nearest in home communicator, and handed it to the female Enforcer. “All you need do is click through the calls made, and the calls received, and you will see for yourself that Rada did not contact Saylee of Castor.” The Enforcers did what Zade required of them, and then conferred with each other, and used their communicator to contact their supervisor. It did not take long, and the Enforcers were both smiling when they said, “You are obviously innocent of these charges, Madame. The warrant has been officially canceled. We must inform you, however, that since a false warrant was sworn by Chudz of Castor, it is your husband’s legal right to file a warrant against him. You can do this immediately, Sir, or you may take up to ten days to decide you wish to pursue action.” “I am aware of my rights, Officers, but I wish to confer with my legal consultant before making a decision. Thank you, however, for your prompt attention to clearing my wife’s name of wrong doing.” “If I might say something of a more personal nature…?” the male spoke up. “If Madame was my responsibility, I would make sure to keep her away from the Castor House.” “You can be sure I intend to do just that, Officer. Thank you for your concern,” Zade said pleasantly, offering the man his hand. They shared a wholly male moment while the female officer did her best to keep from rolling her eyes. She nodded at Rada, and then followed her partner out the door. Rada looked at Zade, trying to gauge his mood. He was clearly angry, and it did not bode well for her. She did not know what to say to calm him, and for some reason, she felt as though she had done something terribly wrong. “Rada, I think it is obvious that Chudz is out to do you harm. I cannot protect you if you do not do exactly as I say. I want you to have nothing at all to do with Saylee. Do not answer her calls, and if she comes to our door, you are to tell her to leave.” “I cannot do such a thing, Zade! It would be cruel, and Saylee has done nothing wrong!” she insisted. “Saylee is the one who is being mistreated. Why can you not see this and do something to help her?” Rada demanded. “Will she be permanently harmed or killed before someone will step forward to help her?” “I am not her family,” Zade said firmly. ”YOU are my family, and YOU are my primary concern.”
“But, I am concerned about Saylee, and I will not turn my back on her because of Chudz! I simply will not do that! She is alone as it is, and no one cares that Chudz is abusing her!” “I do not like the fact that she is abused, Rada, but the law is very clear. There is nothing I can do. You have to think of yourself, and of your children. What are they to do if you are faulted and held for punishment? It is only by extreme luck that I was able to get the warrant turned so quickly.” “I did not disobey you, Zade. I have tried to be obedient, and have given Chudz time to calm down, as you suggested. It is now apparent that he is never going to relent. Surely you can see this?” Rada remonstrated with the big man. “Yes, I can see this, which is why I am forbidding you any contact at all with Saylee.” He saw the stubborn look in her green eyes, and knew that his feisty wife would follow her heart on this issue. “Rada, if need be, I can enforce this with a punishment.” “It will not change my mind, husband. It will only serve to make me angry.” Rada burst into tears, and headed for their bed chamber. The entire evening was ruined, thanks to Chudz of Castor, and she was furious with him, and furious with the Marriage Committee, and she was furious with Zade as well. How could he expect her to have nothing at all to do with her best friend? His dictates were impossible! If no one else would help Saylee, then she would find a way to do so. Zade extinguished the candles. Their evening had gone from intimate and romantic to disaster. He couldn’t blame Rada for being angry with him, however, she was his responsibility, and he would protect her… even if it did not sit well with her. She would obey him, or he would take measures to insure that she complied with his wishes. ******************** “Why are you so sad this beautiful day, daughter?” Harlan of Zandor asked kindly when he brought Tara and Stennot home. After kissing her hello, the children had immediately gone in search of their father, leaving their mother alone with her parent. “It is a very long story, Father, and I would be very upset should you take Zade’s side and agree with him,” she stated with honesty. “I respect your husband’s ideas most of the time, child, but you are my daughter, and I do not like to see you so unhappy. Could you fix me some Berry Tea and tell me what has you frowning?” “Of course I will fix tea for you,” Rada smiled. “I also have Chocolate Cake,” she offered, knowing full well her father loved that particular dessert. Once she served his tea, she sat across from him and explained about the Enforcers showing up at their door the preceding evening. To Harlan’s credit, he heard her out before he said one word. “Daughter, why doesn’t Saylee go to her father for help?” “He is very ill, Father, and she fears the shock of learning she is abused would be detrimental to his recovery.” “Nonsense. As a Father, I would expect you to come to me if there was a problem, no matter my health. I would think Saylee’s Father would feel the same.” “He supports the Marriage Committee. He feels they do not make bad matches.” “I feel the Marriage Committee does a good job, but there are always exceptions. Saylee needs to go to her Father and ask him to help her. He is the one in the best position to know if she is truly being abused, or just not trying to make her marriage
work. Ah, there you are, Zade!” he greeted his daughter’s husband as he entered the kitchen. Zade was not smiling, and his dark eyes were serious. “Rada, enough of this talk. I will hear no more of it in our home. Saylee’s problems are no concern of ours, and that is final.” “I am not a fair weather friend, husband. Saylee is my concern, and you cannot control what I feel or what I think.” She put the container of dessert she had prepared for her father to take home with him on the table beside him. “Do not forget this, Father. I will go now and see to my children.” “Zade, I have known Saylee for many years. If Rada feels she is being abused, then I would say it is the truth. Rada will not turn a blind eye to that, I assure you. I would think it prudent if you were to try to find a way to help rather than forbid Rada her friend.” “I wish it were that simple, Harlan, but Chudz has taken a serious dislike to Rada. He filed a warrant against her, and it was only luck that the two Enforcers were willing to listen and could see that Saylee was the one who called here, and that Rada did not contact her. It has proven, however, that Chudz intends to shame Rada publicly, and I will not have that.” “I understand your fear for Rada, but forbidding her a friendship she values is not the way to fix this. Speaking with Denier of Estople is your best recourse. If he is too ill to act in Saylee’s behalf, then he can appoint his legal consultant to act in his stead,” Harlan suggested. “If you were to make it known to your wife that you will try to get justice for Saylee, then you will serve a much better chance of enforcing your wishes that she stay away from Saylee in the meantime, especially if you can convince her that it is in Saylee’s best interests, too.” Zade nodded, taking his Father-in-law’s words seriously. “I will consider your suggestions, Harlan. I have no wish to punish Rada unfairly.” “I am sure you will do what is best for your House, Zade. Enjoy the rest of your day off,” he said, getting to his feet. “If you and Rada need for Diki and I to take the children, just let us know. We truly enjoy having them,” he said with a smile. As he walked toward the front door, he called out, “Good day, daughter! Mind you behave your husband.” Rada’s answer was muffled, but the two men could hear the children laughing, and they smiled. Rada was a good mother, and not above playing with her children. Zade saw Harlan out, and then decided to go and speak with his wife. She was very close to earning another punishment. Rada had other plans, however, and those plans did not include being alone with her husband until she could no longer postpone the inevitable. She simply was not going to agree to abandon her friend, and Rada knew exactly where her defiance would lead. Zade expected obedience, and when he did not get the obedience he required of her, he punished. While Rada was not anxious for another punishment, her feelings on this subject were too strong not to put up a fight. Zade was wrong, and she would not pretend otherwise. Zade was not stupid, and he understood that his wife was using their children to avoid having a serious discussion with him. While he did not relish the idea of punishing her again so soon, he could see no other way to make his point and assure that she would
follow his instructions. Since it was obvious that Rada was going to forestall a conversation with him until the children were sound asleep for the night, Zade decided he would take the time to check in on his younger siblings. He was slightly concerned about Grodot, and decided that it was time to place a call. “What are you doing at work today?” Zade was surprised when he could hear the noise in the background that told him Grodot was indeed working on a holiday, which was most unusual! “I am preparing for Mandatory Solitude,” was Grodot’s shocking answer. “You are marrying?” Zade questioned, taken completely by surprise. He had no idea at all that his brother was planning to marry. “I hope so,” Grodot replied solemnly. “I am prepared to do so, and by working today to clear my desk, I will be ready for Mandatory Solitude should the young lady in question accept my bid.” “Did you intend to invite any of us to come and witness the ceremony?” Zade demanded. “Of course. I was planning to come by and invite you and Rada this evening. Wardon is coming over, too, and so are Alex and Lissa. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share my news.” He paused. “I guess I should have mentioned our plans to Rada sooner; I was to check and make sure we would not be intruding, but I forgot,” his tone of voice was sheepish. “Is it a problem?” “I am sure Rada will want to know all the details, and that she will not mind your company. Did the others know you were thinking of marriage?” His brothers were both of an age to marry, but this was the first he heard of any interest in doing so, and it made him wonder if Wardon was also looking for a wife. “No! I have been keeping this quiet until I knew for sure. It is a big step, but I guess I do not need to tell you this. Do you feel I am ready, Zade?” he asked, and it touched Zade. “In my very biased opinion, I am positive you will make a very good husband,” Zade said proudly. “I have had a good example in you these last ten years,” Grodot said softly, and then announced he had much to do before leaving. Zade disengaged, and went to seek Rada’s attention. “Wife, I hope you will not be too distressed, but I have just learned that Grodot, Wardon, Lissa, and Alex, and their children will be joining us this evening. Grodot was to call and ask your favor, but he forgot and did just remember when I called to say hello to him.” He saw her eyes light up and he smiled. “I think you will also wish to know this is somewhat of a special occasion. Grodot has some very special news to impart.” “I see, and are you going to tell me this special news since you obviously know and approve?” Rada asked teasingly. “No, I promised I would not,” he said regretfully. “Is there anything I can do to help you prepare?” he offered. “Will they be here for dinner, Zade, or after?” she asked. His puzzled look was her answer. She smiled, shaking her head. “I will call Lissa and ask,” she quickly stated. “No, my love, you will not get on the communicator with my sister and speculate on Grodot’s news.” He shook a finger at her, chuckling at her look of disappointment. “I
will call.” He did so, and it was quickly decided that everyone would be there for dinner, if it pleased Rada. Rada was a wonderful hostess, and she made it seem effortless to plan a family dinner at a moment’s notice. Once things were under control, Zade managed to capture her and put his arms around her and turn her to face him. “The children are in Stennot’s room, playing nicely,” he said. “I do not wish to make you angry, Rada, but we need to speak seriously. I know and understand your feelings regarding Saylee.” “Do you really, Zade?” she asked quietly, but he could see the anger simmering underneath. “I do not wish to sound disrespectful, husband. I love you very much, but Saylee has been a part of my life since I was a small child. I cannot turn my back on her because it would make you more comfortable. Chudz is a cruel man. Saylee needs to know that I am on her side.” “Rada, have you considered that your interference only serves to inflame Chudz’s anger, and that he takes his anger out on Saylee?” The shocked look in her lovely green eyes told him she had not considered this a possibility. “I do not say this to upset you, but to caution you. Your Father has suggested I speak with Denier of Estople. He convinced me that the man would wish to know of his daughter’s plight, and if he is not well enough to act in Saylee’s behalf, he will have the option of appointing his legal advisor to do so. I am well aware of Saylee’s fears for her parent, but this is the only way I can legally interfere and try to help you help your friend. Will you please give me your word that you will refrain from any contact with Saylee and give me a chance to contact Denier of Estople?” “You would do this for Saylee, Zade?” Rada’s eyes were wet with tears. “I would do it for my wife who loves Saylee,” he replied, and was rewarded when she put her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, and then kissed him. “Will you give your word, wife? I need to know you will do nothing at all to anger Chudz.” “As long as I know you are trying to help, Zade, I will refrain from doing anything to make things worse for Saylee.” “Rada, I will hold you to this promise, and will make you a promise in return. If you do one thing to bring down Chudz’s wrath on this House, I will punish you twice what the Courts fault!” Rada was shocked at her husband’s words, but before she could protest, the door alert sounded, and it was time to learn Grodot’s news…
Chapter Four While Zade was very happy to see his sister and brother-in-law and their three children, he wished they would have timed their arrival for a few moments later. His wife’s answer to his promise to punish her twice what the Council faulted if she put herself in Chudz’s displeasure in any way earned him nothing but an irritated flash of her lovely green eyes. It was obvious she did not believe him, and Zade wished for a few minutes to demonstrate otherwise. He feared that Rada was not taking this situation as seriously as she should. He would have to give her a serious reason to take his warning to heart, and avail herself as he felt best. He did not wish for her to put herself in harm’s way, and it was his duty to dissuade her of any foolishness that could result in her punishment at the hands of the Council. “You look so solemn, Zade. Is there much troubling you?” Lissa asked in concern. She was sensitive to her brother’s moods, and hated to see him distressed. “Zade is fearful for me,” Rada spoke up immediately, quickly realizing what troubled her handsome husband. “My dear friend Saylee is unhappy in her marriage, and her husband, Chudz of Castor, is angry with me, and trying to pass fault to me. Zade fears I will be faulted by the Council, and he has forbade me to do anything to anger Chudz.” Alex was startled into commenting, “I would think you would be anxious to avoid Zade’s displeasure, Rada. This is a very serious matter. If Saylee is so unhappy, she needs speak with her family to assist her.” He shared a meaningful look with his brotherin-law. “Saylee fears her father’s health would be compromised, Alex. However, Zade has promised to speak to him in Saylee’s behalf.” Rada’s green eyes were shining with love and hope. “It is all I can ask… and I am content to obey my husband since I am aware he will do this for Saylee.” She frowned, “Zade has also made me aware that Saylee could suffer even more if I defy Chudz’s wishes. I will do nothing to put her in his displeasure.” Zade nodded, his mood lightened considerably from a few moments ago. “Thank you, wife. I feared you did not take me seriously.” “There was no need to promise punishment, Zade,” she said softly. “I will not defy you on this matter. I understand how grave the situation is,” she reassured him, and then kissed him lightly on the lips. “I am grateful you will speak with Denier of Estople. I am sure he will do something to help Saylee.” “Do not get your hopes so high, little one. Denier of Estople is elderly, and his views may not agree with yours,” Zade warned. “He loves Saylee, and is indulgent, Zade. He will listen to you, I am positive. You are a good husband to speak of this with him for me.” “You will be patient until this is done? Denier of Estople might not give me an appointment for a few days,” Zade reminded his wife. “I will be very patient, husband.” She nodded in agreement. “It warms my heart to know that you believe my concern is genuine.” “I am relieved this is satisfactorily settled,” Lissa frankly declared as the door alert sounded once more. Wardon was next to arrive, and he was in his usual good mood. “Greetings, family. I thought I would be last to arrive, but Grodot is not here yet? For once I get to
razz him for being tardy!” The door alert sounded once again, and everyone laughed as Grodot came inside, and Wardon said, “Brother, you are late!” “I saw you enter the door, Wardon.” Grodot chuckled. “I have not eaten this day, Rada. I hope you fixed enough food that Wardon may sit at the table, too?” “There will be plenty, I am sure, Grodot!” Rada smiled in amusement. Her brothers-in-law were always teasing each other, and she knew well their appetites and always made plenty of food. “Since I have not been plagued by questions since entering, I can see that Zade has kept my news to himself,” he said. “What news?” Lissa immediately demanded. “I will be bidding for a wife tomorrow,” he announced without preamble. “I would like for you all to attend the Marriage Hall in the hopes that my bid is accepted.” “Really, Grodot!” Rada exclaimed, and then looked at Zade. “You could have warned me! I would have fixed something really special!” “You did fix something special,” Zade chuckled. “Oh my goodness!!!” Lissa was clearly surprised. “Oh, Grodot! This is a huge surprise. I did not know you were considering marriage.” “I have been considering marriage for some time now. I completed my testing nearly a year ago, but this is the first woman who has truly caught my attention. I am hopeful the interview will go well, and her father will be favorable to my bid, should I decide to offer once meeting her in person.” “I am sure any woman will consider herself fortunate to wed with you,” Rada announced. “If she is the one for you, I hope she will recognize that, and speak for you.” “Did you do that for me, Rada?” Zade asked with a curious smile. “I spoke to Father of those I would not wish to be paired with, and Father accepted that, agreeing with me. One bidder only wanted me so he could cut off my hair and change me to fit a preconceived notion.” “One of the reasons I fell in love with you, lovely Rada, is your glorious hair. I love the fact you wear it long for me, and that you dress in robes. It very much appeals to me.” “I liked the way you included my Mother in your questions, and the way you looked at me made me feel special,” Rada admitted. “I hoped you would bid,” she shyly confessed, earning a smile from her husband of ten years. “Grodot,” she said as she turned to her brother-in-law, “I would hope you will be as kind and considerate to your bride as Zade was with me. He did everything possible to calm my fears. I soon realized my good fortune.” Grodot nodded solemnly. “I will be patient and kind, Rada. My sister had that talk with me some time ago, and I have not forgotten her words, or the example set by my brother when he married you.” The conversation continued for some time, but Wardon was noticeably quiet. “Wardon, you have kept your counsel. Does the idea of my marriage upset you in some way?” Grodot asked with a puzzled frown. “Yes, it does,” Wardon spoke honestly. His dark eyes were unusually solemn, and his voice was slightly hoarse. “I fear we could have a problem, Grodot, and one we should discuss privately, perhaps…?”
“What problem could that be, Wardon?” Zade spoke out of concern. “Do you have some reason to fear that Grodot is not ready for marriage?” “No, of course not, Zade. I just wish to avoid a situation that could prove embarrassing and hurtful for the family.” Wardon was apparently reluctant to state the problem in front of everyone, but Zade quickly decided it needed to be aired in front of the family if it could affect the entire family. “Wardon, you are speaking in circles. Let us hear your thoughts plainly, and we’ll address the issue here and now.” Wardon nodded his acceptance, and looked at Grodot. “I am bidding on a wife tomorrow as well, Grodot, and intended this evening to invite all of you to witness. My thoughts since you made your announcement are concerning which woman you hope to bid on. I would avoid the problem of both of us bidding for the same marriage partner. I would not wish to compete against my own brother, nor have my brother compete against me. It would only bring dishonor and discontent to our House. We love each other too much for this to happen… especially in public at the Marriage Hall.” Rada immediately understood what Wardon was saying, and she felt sorry for him, and for Grodot as well. His face colored, and his dark eyes filled with anxiety. It was obvious that Lissa did not know what to say, and she looked at Alex in concern, tears gathering in her eyes. Zade was the only one who seemed calm, and he spoke with authority. “Grodot, who is the young lady you are planning to offer a bid for?” he asked matter-of-factly. “I do not wish there to be a problem, Wardon,” Grodot said worriedly. “I do not wish a problem, either, brother. Speak your name, and if there is a conflict, we will settle it here instead of publicly. It is good that we have this opportunity.” “The woman’s name is Betta of the House of Asimility,” Grodot said in a strong voice, while watching Wardon’s face. Wardon smiled in genuine relief. “We do not have a problem, Grodot. The woman I wish to bid for is Sondi of the House of Nordros!” Grodot smiled happily. “Hopefully we will both wed tomorrow, Wardon.” He got to his feet and embraced his younger brother. “It is good to know our taste in women runs a bit different.” “I agree. I did not consider Betta of Asimility.” “And I did not consider Sondi of Nordros.” “No awkward moments tomorrow, then?’ “It would seem not, unless our bids are denied and we bring our family to the Marriage Hall without reason.” Grodot grinned. “I am very pleased this is all settled,” Lissa said with feeling, tears in her eyes. “Both of you bidding tomorrow! What a surprise!!!” “It is a good surprise,” Zade said, the relief in his eyes a reflection of everyone’s feelings. “We will all attend, of course, and wish you both well.” “You can all arrange to be away from work on such short notice?” Wardon asked.
“Of course we can!” Lissa declared. “We’re having two weddings!” she happily declared, obviously pleased at the idea. “You two might have mentioned you were looking, however!” she scolded, and Alex’s hand came to rest in warning on her bottom. “No scolding tonight, dear. It is a time to celebrate and be happy,” he warned, giving her a gentle pat. “Alex is right! I am sure dinner is ready, and I think we all need to eat and celebrate!” Rada announced before Alex’s brothers could tease their sister. The rest of the evening was festive and went very well… and later, in their bed, Zade admitted to Rada that he wasn’t sure what he would have done to settle the matter if both of his brothers were to announce they were set to bid on the same woman. As head of his family, it would have been his responsibility to deal with the situation in a matter that would be best for everyone, but how to do that without creating hard feelings would have been extremely difficult. “I am pleased that each has his heart set on another.” “I am, too,” Rada agreed, snuggling against her husband. “Are their levels the same?” she asked curiously. “Yes… one below mine,” he replied. “Both women they are bidding on are level eight’s. They will more than likely have back to back ceremonies if both of their bids are accepted.” Zade made sure his family arrived at the Marriage Hall before the appointed time, and it was Grodot who approached him first, smiling with good news. “My bid has been accepted, Zade, so you did not make the trip for no reason. Wardon is still waiting to hear.” Zade offered his congratulations, and took Grodot aside and spoke with him a few moments privately. Wardon joined them, all smiles, and Rada felt a lump in her throat as she realized that both of her husband’s brothers would be married this day. Lissa and Alex arrived, and were delighted for both of them as well. Grodot’s ceremony was first, and Rada held her breath, hoping for the best. She truly hated to attend weddings. She still thought it barbaric that the first act between a man and his wife was a spanking in front of the entire Hall, but the century’s old custom persisted, and she only prayed that Grodot would be as gentle with Betta as Zade was with her. It was humiliating to be bared in front of the entire Hall and spanked, but Zade was mindful of her feelings, and made the spanking bearable, and she would never forget the kiss he gave her afterwards. He was the only husband to do so that day, and it made her feel truly special. Betta was a very pretty young woman, and although she seemed very frightened and embarrassed, she conducted herself well. Her mother assisted her to Grodot, and he gave her a reassuring smile. Madame Pilari, who assisted at Zade and Rada’s wedding, was still part of the Marriage Committee, and she handed Grodot the Marriage Strap. He thanked her politely, but held it in his left hand. He spanked his new bride gently, and carefully helped her up when the three minutes were over. Betta smiled at him, and he continued to hold her hand as they accepted the well wishes from the Marriage Committee. Rada felt it was a good beginning, and she made mental note to praise Grodot for his tender manner. Then, Grodot whispered in Madame Pilari’s ear, and she nodded. “We will proceed with the next ceremony now as this couple and the next are from the same House and would witness for each other.”
Wardon stepped forward when his name was called; the terms of the Marriage Contract and the amount of the bid were read. The amount was considered well above the respectable, and Rada smiled to herself when Zade nodded in satisfaction. He’d told his brothers the night before to place a high value on their wife, and both had taken his advice. Rada well remembered how flustered she was when her bid was read at the ceremony, but she also knew he truly wanted her. Grodot’s and Wardon’s brides would also know… and it made her smile. It only took a few seconds for Rada to realize that Wardon’s bride had a temper. She could see the angry sparkle in her eyes from where they were sitting in the Hall to observe, and Rada suddenly had a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach that Wardon’s ceremony would not go nearly as well as Grodot’s. Sure enough, a man who appeared only a year or two older than Sondi was standing in place for her deceased father, and Rada decided he was a brother. Sondi’s Mother was also there, as her right, but it was the brother who leaned down and murmured something to Sondi to persuade her to speak the vows she had to state. Wardon took a seat on the chair, prepared to spank his new wife, and he gave her a smile of encouragement. Sondi shook her head no. Her Mother took her hand, and pleaded with her, but Sondi stomped her foot and argued. Rada could feel her husband tense beside her, and she knew he was concerned for his brother. How he behaved now would affect the rest of his marriage, and could possibly affect how he was deemed in the business world. Sondi’s brother whispered something, but Sondi stubbornly shook her head. There was twittering in the Marriage Hall, and Wardon decided to settle the matter since her brother would not, or could not. He rose to his feet, and took Sondi’s hand in his, and turned to her tearful Mother, and raised her hand to his lips, and thanked her for her daughter. He pulled his bride over to the chair, and Sondi quickly learned she was not as strong as her new husband. Wardon nodded toward Sondi’s mother, and the woman stepped forward to turn up her daughter’s golden dress for the spanking. Madame Pilari handed the Punishment Strap to Wardon, and it was as if the entire Hall held its breath. Wardon leaned down to whisper to Sondi, and she shook her head no. He smiled, and he passed the Strap to his left hand, and said loudly enough to be heard. “These first spanks are for embarrassing your sweet Mother, Sondi.” Rada looked at Zade in horror as Wardon spanked Sondi hard with his hand. It was easy to see her pale bottom turn red under the hard spanking, but Sondi lie perfectly still and suffered the punishment in silence. At the end of the first minute, Wardon spoke again, “And the rest of this is the way I would prefer to welcome my new wife to marriage.” The spanks gentled and Wardon did his best to make it easy on Sondi. Her bottom was very red when the three minutes were up. Wardon helped her to her feet, and then stood to look down at her sympathetically. He gave her cheek a kiss, and whispered something. Sondi nodded, and then gave her Mother a hug and an apology. “He handled that well,” Zade said for her ears alone. “I wish it wouldn’t have been necessary, though.” “She was frightened,” Rada said kindly. “Please welcome her without hard feelings, husband.” Zade looked at her and smiled tenderly. “I will do so, wife.”
Rada breathed a sigh of relief, thankful this part of the day was over. Barring a situation she did not foresee, she would not have another wedding to attend for some time. The hard part was all over now, and she was anxious to meet her new sisters-inlaw. Wardon and Sondi were in one reception room, and Grodot and Betta in another, but next to each other to make it easier on the men’s guests. They were able to see both brides and grooms off for their Mandatory Solitude. Once they were on their way home, Zade turned to her and smiled. “You appear exhausted, Rada.” “I am,” she conceded. “I was very nervous and worried for both Grodot and Wardon, and can only imagine how much worse it will be when it is our children!” “We have several years before that will happen, Rada.” He smiled. “I found today full of memories of our Wedding.” “I did as well, husband. You were wonderful to me that day, and it made for a wonderful beginning to our marriage.” “You were fearful, and I hoped you would act with dignity. Your Mother was trembling, and your Father feared he would have to step in. The relief and pride in their eyes is something I will not forget. I wanted my touch to feel gentle and loving.” “Are you saying you would have punished me if I had refused Mother’s assistance?” Rada looked at him in surprise. His dark eyes were twinkling with mischief. “You did not put me in that position because you love your Mother and Father, and you wanted their favor that day. I will hope our Tera will be as biddable when the time arrives.” “She is only eight years old, Zade!” It pained Rada to think of that day!! “Perhaps things will change by then,” she stated. “I do not look for that, Rada, but Tera will do well. You are a wonderful Mother, and our children adore you and will not wish to cause you grief.” He put his arm around her and gave her a gentle hug, surprised to learn she was trembling. “You are now thinking of Saylee,” he said quietly. “I do, but in a way that frightens me, Zade. I would not have Tera wed to a man who would harm her. It makes me ill to think of such happening.” “As her parents, we will choose carefully, Rada, and we will be frequent guests during her first years to observe her happiness, just as your parents did for you,” he smiled gently, and then chuckled when her green eyes filled with surprise, and her lovely mouth dropped open. “You think that Father and Mother…? They were checking up on me?” she asked in genuine surprise. Zade laughed openly. “Of course they did, as good parents should. Your Father always wanted a reason when you did not sit as well as he would have liked.” “And you answered him?” She was a bit embarrassed. “Truthfully and with respect to your feelings.” Zade leaned over and kissed her. “He had a right to know you were treated fairly.” “I did not complain of you, husband,” Rada assured him. “You were always fair with your displeasure.” “Your Father seemed to think so,” he teased, and winked when she smacked him on the arm.
Their day passed pleasantly enough, and once Stennot and Tera were tucked in bed, Zade and Rada recalled a few more memories of their Wedding Night. ******************** Zade was uncustomarily nervous as he waited to see Denier of Estople. It was a grave matter to interfere in a man’s House, and in the House of his daughter. If he hadn’t promised Rada, he would simply head for the door. Denier was quite elderly, and Saylee was born to him and his wife late in their marriage. Saylee’s Mother died when she was still a small child, and her Father raised her by himself. Zade was not sure what to expect from the man. When he came into the room, Denier was moving slowly and using a heavy stick to assist him with walking. His blue eyes were sharp and alert, however, and he quickly took Zade’s measure. “Zade of Zimitri, I am Denier of Estople. I do not believe we have met, even though I have heard of you from my daughter.” He offered his hand in greeting, and Zade was surprised to find his grip as strong as it was. It made him feel better. He did not want the man to suffer irreversible damage to his heart if he spoke of personal matters concerning him. “Please sit down. May I offer you refreshment?” he offered politely. “No, thank you, sir,” Zade replied. “Very well. I am sure this is not a social call, so what brings you to my home today…? Is little Rada well?” he asked. “Rada is well, but deeply concerned for her friend. It is at her request I come and speak to you of a personal matter that concerns Saylee.” “I can see you are uncomfortable, and you do not appear to be a man led by your wife, so I must assume the matter is of grave concern to you as well?” “Yes, sir. Saylee has confessed to Rada that Chudz of Castor is abusive in his manner towards her. Rada has witnessed this behavior on several occasions, and suffered Chudz’s displeasure at what he perceives as interference on her behalf.” “And if this is true, why has my daughter failed to come to me and request protection?” Denier questioned sharply. “She fears for your health, sir,” Zade answered truthfully, and was relieved when the elderly man nodded. “This I believe; Saylee does worry for me, and calls me often. She rarely visits, and I wondered at the reason. She knows I would see her unhappiness. I would appreciate hearing whatever you feel I need to know, Zade.” Denier listened with full attention as Zade told him of Chudz’s behavior towards Saylee, and how he’d filed a warrant against Rada when she’d done nothing wrong. His blue eyes filled with indignation and outrage, and when Zade was finished speaking, he said, “I thank you for having the courage to come to me, Zade.” “Harlan of Zandor spoke to me and reminded me that he would wish to know if it was his child, and I thought of my Tera; I would want the opportunity to protect her. I came to you as a father, and as a friend, and out of respect.” ******************** Lissa sipped her tea, and watched as Rada arranged flowers into a beautiful arrangement. “You make that look so easy,” she marveled. “I love doing it, just as you love creating new wines,” Rada answered. She took some ribbon, and made a pretty bow to add a finishing touch, and then said, “All done.”
She smiled at Lissa, and said, “Shall we take our tea into the social room? It’s much more comfortable in there.” “Oh, you have not suffered Zade’s displeasure again have you, Rada?” Lissa asked in concern. Her brother spanked much too often in her opinion. “Oh no; I just like to sit comfortably,” Rada giggled. “And since we are going to gossip about our new sisters-in-law, I thought we should be cozy.” “Am I so transparent?” Lissa grinned. “Yes, but since I was planning to come to you for the same purpose, this works out well,” Rada confessed with another smile. “What did you think of Betta?” “Her gown was nice, but nothing like the one you wore,” Lissa announced. “Mother had mine made for me,” Rada admitted. “I can still hear Father sputtering about how much it cost!” “Did he punish her?” Lissa fretted. She truly loved Diki, and considered her a second ‘mother’. “Oh no. Father loves to grumble about money.” “Betta’s gown was prettier than Sondi’s, but I think it was because Sondi is not flattered by gold tones.” The remark was not meant to be catty. “Betta reminds me more of you; her hair is long, and red, like yours. Sondi’s is a silver blond, and she would have looked gorgeous in a silver gown!” “I agree,” Rada commented. “Sondi has more of a temper than Betta. I felt so sorry for her when she would not permit her Mother to take her to Wardon!” The door alert sounded, and then sounded again, and yet again. Rada ran, sensing there was trouble.
Chapter Five The door alert sounded a third time before Rada could get the door opened, and it was Saylee. She was bruised and bleeding and crying, and fell into Rada’s arms. “Oh my God! Oh noooo…! Oh, Saylee!” Rada whispered in shock. “Lissa, come help me!” she called. “Hold on, Saylee; we’ll help you.” Lissa’s eyes filled with shock and sympathy, but she put her emotions on hold and gently helped Rada get Saylee into a guest room and into bed. “I’m getting help, Saylee,” Rada promised. She used her communicator and called Zade. Zade knew that Rada would not be calling him right now unless it was extremely important. She knew where he was and that the situation was delicate, and she would not compromise his meeting with Denier of Estople unless something were wrong. He politely excused himself from the elderly man, and answered. “Yes, Rada…?” “Zade, I need your assistance immediately. Saylee is here, and she is badly beaten. We need medical attention, and your protection as well in case Chudz arrives. Lissa is here, and all our children!” She implored him to hurry, and he could hear the distress in her sweet voice. “I will call for aid and be on my way immediately, Rada. Do not open the door for anyone but the medics. Do not admit Chudz, no matter what he threatens,” Zade warned, rising to his feet as he turned off his communicator. “Sir,” he addressed Denier of Estople, “Rada has informed me that Chudz has seriously harmed Saylee. She is at my House at this moment seeking aide and protection. I must go to Rada and help her deal with this situation.” “I will come with you, Zade. This is my child.” Zade did not argue. He helped the elderly man to his transport while making the necessary calls to get help for Saylee. He arrived home as quickly as possible, and was relieved to see that medical help was already treating Saylee’s injuries. Denier insisted upon seeing his daughter, and he gently kissed her and promised that everything would be all right. Rada was doing her best not to cry, but Zade could see how upset she was, and he took her in his arms to comfort her. “Oh, Zade! Saylee is in so much pain! Her lips are so swollen she cannot speak!” “I am so sorry, my darling. We will take care of her, and she will be safe now. Denier is still a strong man mentally and he will see to Saylee’s safety and protection. He is most distressed she did not come to him for aide. I will speak most emphatically to our Tera when she is wed so that she will always come to her parents for aide if need be.” “Zade, Rada, I feel it is best for us to leave soon,” Lissa stated. “I will be happy to take Stennot and Tera home until this matter is settled. It would be best if they are not here if Chudz comes to cause trouble.” Zade nodded his agreement. “I agree, Lissa. Rada, will you mind if Lissa takes the children with her?” he consulted his wife. “I think it a good idea, Zade,” Rada nodded. “Thank you, Lissa. And thank you for your help with Saylee.” “I am so angry for her, Rada. I cannot discuss it right this minute for fear I will say something I should not in front of our children.”
Rada nodded in understanding. She was angry for Saylee, too. “I am angry, too, Lissa, and this will be…” she stopped mid-sentence when the door alert sounded. “You will both stay here,” Zade said firmly, and went to see who was at the door, although he was fairly certain he knew it was Lissa’s husband. Rada looked at Lissa and picked up the heavy wooden bat that was Zade’s for use at zoomba. She had taken it out of the closet in case it was needed for protection until her husband arrived home, and now she would use it to protect him should Chudz come around. She hurried to Zade’s side, only to see Alex come in the door. ”Did I not instruct you both to stay in the other room?” Zade asked, his right eyebrow arched in displeasure as he looked at his wife and sister. “We feared trouble, Zade,” Rada admitted, brandishing the bat. “I will handle any trouble that comes our way, wife,” he said firmly, taking the heavy bat from her hands. “I will not have you involved. Do you understand, or do I need to impress this lesson in a firm manner you will recall?” “I will remember, Zade.” Rada knew better than argue with her husband when he was in this mood. Besides, it was more than a little embarrassing that he was scolding her in front of Lissa and Alex. “Lissa, when you are told by your brother to do or not do something for your safety and protection, you will obey or there will be consequences,” Alex scolded Lissa, too, and Rada felt terribly guilty. “I meant no harm, husband. I am sorry, Zade,” Lissa quickly apologized. “Zade is capable of protecting himself from Chudz without the help of two little girls.” Alex smiled at them. “How do you know what happened, Alex?” Lissa asked in genuine surprise. “Your brother called for me to come to see you safely home, Lissa, while on his way home after Rada informed him he was needed. His thought was to inform me and inquire my preference for your safety. Chudz has to be insane to do something so vicious and cruel to his own wife. His behavior is now unpredictable, and while I do not think there is anything to fear for our House, we do not know this for a fact. I will take you and the children home and stay with you while Chudz is sought out and dealt with by the Council.” Lissa smiled at her husband, and it was obvious she was pleased by his consideration for her and their children. “I have offered to bring home Stennot and Tera, husband. It will take a moment to prepare them.” “This is a good suggestion, Lissa,” Alex nodded his approval. “Rada, would you pack what your children will need for a few days? We will take a small vacation and go to the lake.” “Thank you, Alex,” Zade said gratefully when Rada and Lissa went to prepare the children to leave. “I do not know what to expect from Chudz, but Denier is going to swear a warrant against him, and hopefully a fault will be issued, and incarceration to follow.” “I would not say this in front of Lissa and Rada, but the Marriage Council does make mistakes every so often. It is not right that a woman has no recourse on her own if she is mistreated.” “I agree,” Zade surprised himself by admitting. “In Saylee’s case, especially.” “How is she faring?” Alex wanted to know.
“She is in much pain from the beating Chudz gave her, but the medic administered a killer to ease the pain and assist her to sleep. Denier sits in her room now, offering comfort. Saylee will heal physically, and if she needs cosmetic help, it will be available.” “She has good friends in you and Rada, Zade. It is well that Lissa was here to help Rada, and she can offer testimony if needed to prove that Saylee arrived in terrible condition. I will have my communicator on my person at all times; if you need our aid, let us know immediately.” Zade thanked his brother-in-law, and within a few minutes, Rada, Lissa, and all the children joined them. Rada and Zade both cautioned their children to mind their Aunt and Uncle, and kissed their children good-bye. Alex swiftly moved everyone out the door and on the way, after reassuring Lissa that they would go home and pack for themselves before heading to their home at the lake. “Tera and Stennot are all excited to be going away with Lissa and Alex and the children.” Rada managed a smile. “I feel it will be best to have them away for the next few days while this is happening.” She looked up at her husband, her green eyes full of guilt. “I could not turn Saylee away, Zade.” “Of course not, wife,” he said in genuine surprise. “I did not want you to think me defiant or disrespectful of your wishes,” she confessed. “I did not once consider that, Rada. You reacted as I would expect my wife to react; you provided safety for your friend, and you informed me immediately that you needed assistance. I am not disappointed or displeased with you.” He pulled her close and held her. “I am sorry I did not act sooner to help Saylee, Rada. I was wrong not to do so.” Rada reached up to caress his cheek. “Your concern was for me and this House. I would not fault you for that, Zade. You could not know that Chudz would be so harsh with Saylee and use his fists on her. It is not something you would expect a man to do.” At that moment there was a violent pounding on the door. “Rada, you will stay here in the social room and not interfere in this.” He no sooner left the room than Rada picked up his zoomba bat and followed him as quietly as possible, trying to stay out of his vision. If Chudz threatened her husband, Rada was determined to hurt him, even if it meant earning Zade’s displeasure. Zade opened the door to face Chudz of Castor, anger in his dark eyes even though he kept a schooled expression on his face. “What are you doing here, Castor?” he demanded coolly, witnessing the other man’s disappointment that it was he who answered the door instead of Rada. “I demand to see my wife, Zimitri,” Chudz snarled. “There has been enough interference from this House, and I will be filing a warrant against you and your wife. There are laws to protect this sort of thing from happening.” “There are also laws in place to protect a woman from abuse, Castor,” Zade replied calmly. “Are you implying that Saylee has been abused?” Chudz raised his voice in anger. “I am not implying anything; I am stating clearly that you have abused your wife in a manner that is despicable. What kind of man can still call himself a man and use his fists on a woman entrusted to his care and protection? You have violated a sacred trust
given to you, Castor, and you will not be free to do so again.” Zade did not care if he angered Castor. In fact, he was startled to realize that he hoped Chudz would come at him so he would have the excuse to give him a taste of his own medicine. “My wife was fine this morning when I left for my office, Zimitri. What have you done to her?” he demanded, feigning concern. “Do not think to involve my House in this, Chudz,” Zade warned in a low growl. “Your wife planned this, I am sure,” he accused. “She has done nothing but sabotage my marriage and cause Saylee to anger me repeatedly.” “I did no such thing!” Rada denied from directly behind Zade. “You are just making up lies and excuses for beating Saylee.” “If your own husband had punished you a time or two as you deserve, then you would not be so free to criticize another House. I will have my wife now, or I will file a warrant immediately. It is unlawful to keep a man’s wife without her husband’s permission.” “You are a complete moron if you think we’ll let you near Saylee again,” Rada stated, brandishing the bat. She did not dare gaze at her husband. She could sense his displeasure by her interference, but she did not dare back away now. She would not leave Zade alone with Chudz. “Are you about to let this woman run your House, Zimitri?” Chudz sneered in contempt. “If you are not man enough to control her, then perhaps I should help you?” He took a step forward, his intention to strike Rada very clear. Zade reached out and flattened the man with one punch, knocking him backwards against the double door. Chudz slid down to the floor, cursing. In the next moment, Denier stepped forward and struck Chudz with his cane. “How dare you treat my daughter with such contempt, Castor?” He swung again, catching the younger man’s nose with the cane, and breaking the cartilage. Chudz screamed as blood spurted everywhere. “Stop!” “How many times did my Saylee beg you to stop abusing her, you bastard?” Denier demanded, raising the cane and bringing it down again to snap the bone in Chudz’s arm. Chudz passed out cold from the pain. Denier looked at Zade and said calmly, “Call the authorities, Zade. We will get this garbage removed from your home as soon as possible.” ******************** The authorities arrived, as well as a member of the Marriage Counsel. Denier of Estople had his say, and filed his warrant against Chudz of Castor. Chudz also filed warrants, against Denier, and against Zade and Rada, and it was soon apparent the matter would have to be decided by the Council. The Marriage Counsel did determine that Saylee would remain in her father’s custody until the matter was resolved by the Council. Since Saylee was in too much pain to be moved to her father’s home, it was determined that Denier would also remain as a guest in the Zimitri House. Rada was relieved that Denier won the right to keep Saylee from Chudz, and she did everything humanly possible to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. As Zade observed his wife running around and tending to Denier and Saylee, he wondered if she was aware that she had earned his displeasure? She seemed oblivious to the fact that she had defied and disobeyed his express wishes. It was late when Rada finally seemed satisfied that their guests would want for nothing through the night, and Zade finally took
her arm and said, “It is time to retired to our chamber, wife. We have a matter in need of serious discussion.” It was Zade’s tone of voice that was Rada’s first warning that all was not well with her husband, and a glance at the rigid set of his jaw caused her tummy to do a flipflop inside her body. What on earth had she done? With a rush of clarity she recalled brandishing Zade’s zoomba bat at Chudz, and after Zade warned her to remain in the social room. So much had occurred since then that it did not occur to her that she should anticipate facing her husband’s displeasure. She did not even offer remorse for her actions, and her oversight did not bode well for her now. “Zade, it has suddenly occurred to me that my behavior when Chudz was here must have displeased you. I am sorry I gave so much of my attention to other matters that I neglected to speak to you of this matter. I am grateful to you for your assistance today. You called for medical assistance, you brought Denier, you made sure Lissa had protection from Alexander, and you tried to deal with Chudz. I am sure my disobedience to your request to stay in the social room did not make the situation less difficult, and in fact, provoked Chudz. I was not thinking to that end of things, but to the fact I did not wish my husband to be harmed. I wanted to stand beside you and let Chudz know that he would have to contend with me if he attempted harm to you, or if he tried to take Saylee from our care and protection. In retrospect, my behavior was foolish and it was disrespectful of you. I beg your pardon, Zade, and I will accept whatever consequences I have earned.” “Rada, while I sincerely do appreciate the fact you wish to see me safe, I am more than capable of handling someone like Chudz without your assistance!” He didn’t know whether to smile or spank her even harder! “I have insulted you!” Rada declared with a flash of understanding, and to his shock, her lovely green eyes filled with tears of shame and remorse. “I am sorry, Zade! I do not feel you incapable or unworthy… truly! It is just that I have seen Chudz’s temper, and he frightens me with his cruelty. You are not like that!” “I am a man who can be very cruel if my House is threatened in any way,” Zade told her, meaning every word. “Yes, I saw that,” Rada nodded solemnly. “When Chudz came at me to strike me, you stopped him with one blow.” “I will never let anyone harm you, Rada,” Zade promised. “Nor will I permit you to put yourself in danger, which is what you did this day when you chose to disobey my instructions.” Rada was not surprised when Zade pulled her over to their bed, sat down, and tugged her down across his lap. What did surprise her was that he spanked over her robe. This was not something he did normally, unless it was just a sharp, one swat reminder, when the children were up and about and could walk in upon them at any moment. Rada could still feel Zade’s hand, however, and he made quite an impression in spite of her robe and the undergarment beneath. “Oh, Zade! I am very sorry!” Rada cried out when her bottom was burning. Her husband showed no signs of tiring, but her bottom was certainly growing tired of the spanking! “Please, husband!” “Do you think me lacking in strength to protect my House, wife?” Zade demanded.
“No, sir!” she quickly replied. “I am sorry I shamed you today!” “I am sorry you did not feel you could trust me, and I am sorry you put yourself in danger.” “I trust you, Zade!” Rada quickly denied the charge. “You do?” he demanded, not pausing the spanking for even one second. “Ouch! Yes, I do!” Rada insisted. “Do you feel you will recall this lesson if there is ever a time we are threatened?” he demanded. “Yes, Zade! I promise I will remember!” How was it possible his hand hurt so much, even through her clothing! “If you are truly sincere, you will bare yourself for the rest of your spanking, wife,” Zade calmly announced. “Oh, Zade, I am sore already!” Rada protested. “Please, I am sincere…!” “I don’t think you are,” he argued, and resumed the spanking. It was after several more minutes of making his point and listening to her beg and promise to bare herself that he gave her another chance to do so. This time his lovely wife was not so foolish as to argue with her husband. She stood up and removed her robe, and tugged her panties down and off her legs, then crawled over his lap once again to offer her bare, throbbing bottom for more of his hard hand. Zade did not wish to be rough with his wife, but she needed a sharp lesson. In a serious situation her very safety might depend on her obedience. Rada was sobbing as she bared herself for Zade, but she also understood that he was making a point he felt absolutely necessary. He wanted her to accept that he would protect his House in the way he saw fit, and she would accept his protection, and not interfere in what was his right. Rada promised herself she would never make this same mistake, and would obey Zade in the future. Zade wasted no time. The rest of the spanking was to his lovely wife’s sit spot, and he truly believed her promises of better behavior were sincere by the time he finished the punishment. She curled up against him and cried for a long time, and he held her close, smoothing her hair and whispering words of love. Rada calmed, and finally fell asleep in his arms, knowing her husband loved and valued her. The next day found many people coming to the Zimitri House in an official capacity. Rada was stunned at the amount of people wishing to interview them, and she saw a different side of the Marriage Council, too. Madame Pilari visibly winced when she saw Saylee’s face, and the bruises covering the rest of her body. She was gentle as she questioned Saylee, and then she spent considerable time asking Rada about her involvement in the situation. Rada told the truth, and Zade smiled encouragingly, offering silent support, and smiling when she admitted to Madame Pilari that Zade was very concerned about the whole situation, and that he’d cautioned her against doing anything to upset Chudz. When Madame Pilari asked her if she obeyed her husband in this matter, Rada said clearly that she had. Madame Pilari smiled and stated that she believed her, making Rada feel much better. Madame Pilari also spoke with Zade, and then with Denier, and when she was ready to take her leave, Zade asked in concern, “Madame Pilari, I sincerely hope you will not go to interview Chudz by yourself. I fear the man has lost his mind and is not rational. He has no respect for women, and threatened to strike
Rada in front of me. I respectfully ask you to take along a male member of the Marriage Committee to insure your safety.” Madame Pilari smiled at Zade. “I will heed your advice, sir. Thank you for your concern.” There were other interviews from members of the Council, and also medical visits for Saylee. Harlan and Diki also came to offer support, and Rada was shocked to see her father with tears in his eyes as he looked upon Saylee. He promised Denier he would come to Council and offer his support. The day arrived for the hearing, and Rada was very nervous. “Zade, I am not sure how to dress on this day. I wish to make a good impression, and fear my usual robe will cause a distraction, or cause the council to discount my testimony. Mayhap, I should wear trousers and put my hair in some sort of short style for the day?” she fretted aloud. “Do I need to put you over my knee to calm you, wife?” Zade asked calmly. When she looked at him in dismay, he continued speaking, “I approve of the fact you wear robes and not trousers. I love your long hair. You will dress as you normally do, and act proud. You have done nothing wrong, and you will not behave as though you have. Is that understood, wife?” Zade demanded. “I understand, Zade,” Rada smiled. “You always know what to say to make everything all better. Should I wear the taupe or the green?” She held up two garment holders and looked to her husband for advice. “The green one.” “You do not think it too dressy for the Council Room?” she demanded. “I think it is beautiful, and every man there will envy me my choice of wife,” Zade smiled. As it turned out, Rada did not need to worry over her style of dress. The Head of Council called the room to order and looked about. He called names, and asked the secretary once again if Chudz of Castor had arrived. When the answer was ‘no’, and it was past time to begin, the elderly man shook his head in disgust and began to read the various reports collected over the last few days. The evidence was overwhelming, and all warrants were dropped with the exception of the two against Chudz. Sentence was pronounced, and Chudz would spend the next twenty years of his life imprisoned for mistreating Saylee. Denier’s warrant seeking to dissolve the marriage and remand his daughter to his House was granted. The talk was of Chudz’s disappearance. No one seemed able to locate him, and Denier hired security guards to watch over his home day and night. The authorities seemed to think that Saylee was in danger, but when Chudz made his move, it was not to touch his former wife. He had his sights set on another woman, and when Rada was taken off the street in broad daylight and forced into his transport, Chudz promised her that she would regret the day she turned Saylee against him.
Chapter Six Rada was frightened. Chudz was clearly insane, and his delusional mind blamed her for the failure of his marriage to her friend Saylee. When he stopped his transport, she paid no attention, simply assuming another person like herself wanted to shop in one of the stores located along the strip and was parking to go inside. Rada’s attention was on her employee, and answering her questions about the coming promotion as they walked to one of the local places to have lunch. By the time she realized Chudz was near, he had his arms wrapped tightly around her, holding her arms immobile. He lifted her off her feet and tossed her into the back of his transport. She tried to free herself, but the doors were set to lock, and she could not even open a window to call out for help. Rada’s only hope was that the younger woman would call Zade. In the meantime, until help came, she was on her own and would need to keep her wits about her. Chudz kept giving her looks full of hatred, and the terrible things he promised to do to her were making her stomach roll in fear. She had witnessed the results of the terrible beating he forced upon poor Saylee, and Rada knew he intended much worse for her. Of course, she would fight him. She was not mild tempered like Saylee, and Chudz would not find it so easy to make her cower and beg. He obviously had acquired expensive and expert medical attention; his nose appeared normal, and his arm showed no sign of the fracture Denier inflicted on him. Of course, Saylee was well now, too… At least in body. She was afraid of men and Denier told her she had no need to remarry unless she chose to do so. Rada was careful to watch where she was being taken. They were no longer within the city, and with each passing mile she worried that Zade would not find her until it was too late. She prayed and tried to gather her strength about her, picturing her husband’s loving eyes, and knowing that he would do everything humanly possible to help her… provided Caray went to him right away. ******************** “Sir, there is a woman on the communicator asking to speak with you. She claims it is urgent…” Zade frowned. He had given orders not to disturb him, but he knew his assistant would not do so unless she felt it was important. “Zade of Zimitri,” he barked into the communicator. “A man took Rada, Zade. You have to help her. He was making all kinds of threats!” “Is this you, Caray?” Zade asked worriedly. “Yes!” She started crying. “I am so frightened. It all happened so quickly. I have called the authorities, but I know Rada would expect me to call you, too.” “Describe the man,” Zade ordered abruptly, and it only took him seconds to realize that Chudz had kidnapped his little Rada. “Talk to the authorities, Caray, and tell them everything you know. Tell them the kidnapper is Chudz of Castor, and he is at fault with the Council.” “Oh, Zade, I am so scared!” She cried even harder. “Be brave, Caray. You did well to call me. Does Rada have her bag of personal items with her?” he demanded impatiently, and was relieved to learn she did. “I will find her, I promise. Please deal with the authorities, and tell them I am following Rada and
will call them when I have a direction.” He was already out the door and in his transport. The device he placed within Rada’s bag was picking up her signal, and Zade wasted no time, praying he would get to her before Chudz harmed her in any way. ******************** “Come with me, you little bitch,” Chudz snarled once he stopped his transport and jerked open the door to the back compartment. “Where are we?” Rada asked in a calm tone of voice. She would not show any sort of anger or fear toward the man. “Where no one will find us. Where you are going to pay for turning my wife against me. Where your bastard husband cannot find you until I am done with you, and you are begging for death.” He reached for her, but Rada managed to avoid his touch. “You are going to pay each time you defy me, bitch. Zimitri may let you do as you please, but I will not.” “You are blocking the way, Chudz,” Rada said calmly, even though her heart was pounding in fear. “Move aside and I will alight.” Chudz cursed and threatened her again, but he finally moved back so that she could slowly get out of the transport. “Go inside.” “I do not recognize this place.” Rada did her best to make conversation. If only she could keep him talking. “Does it belong to you?” “Do not ask questions. You do not need to know my personal business.” “I am sure Saylee would have mentioned if you brought her here for weekends or vacations…?” Rada ignored him to say. “Saylee lied to you; she lied to everyone!” Chudz screamed angrily. “About this place?” Rada pretended ignorance. Chudz’s eyes were wild, and she could see he had not bathed in days. Clearly he was hiding from the authorities, and fast losing his grip on sanity. “Did this belong to your family?” she persisted, trying to keep his mind off his reason for bringing her here. “It belonged to my father, but he hated it here. Mother and I used to come when I was a child. Father brought Mother here when she was bad so that he could discipline her.” He gave her another evil look and said, “And I have brought you here to teach you to mind your own business. By the time I am finished punishing you, you will beg Saylee to return to me.” “Chudz, you are only making matters worse for yourself. Saylee could not return even if she wanted to. Your marriage to her was dissolved and she was remanded to her father’s house. You have a fault issued by the Council, and you are to serve twenty years in prison. By kidnapping me, you have turned twenty years into life on a penal colony off planet. You would do well to release me now, and I will not tell anyone what you have done.” “I do not care if everyone knows,” he shocked her by answering. “I want them to know that I taught you a lesson because Zimitri was not man enough to do so. I want him to know how a real man teaches a woman her place.” “Zade is a real man; you are an animal!” Rada felt her temper rising. “You will not find me as easy to cower as Saylee.” “I will enjoy proving you wrong,” he said coldly as he advanced on her, his eyes full of unconcealed fury. ********************
Chudz’s transport had stopped several minutes ago, and Zade was going as fast as he could possibly travel and still maintain control. He was more terrified than ever before in his life, and was more than a little upset that his wife had not minded his concerns. He put thoughts of her disobedience aside and answered his communicator. The enforcers were right behind him, and wanted an ETA to call in. Zade answered them as best as he could guess, and made himself go even faster. Chudz of Castor was considered highly dangerous since his unwise decision to flee instead of stand before Council. Zade was afraid for his Rada and knew he would never forgive himself if he failed in his duty to protect her and keep her from harm. ******************** Chudz moaned in pain when Rada suddenly whirled and kicked with all her might. He fell to the ground, retching, and groaning, and while he was incapacitated she jumped into his transport, started it with the code she had memorized from watching him earlier, and left him lying there, cursing her with every raspy, agonized breath. Rada did not get far when she saw an approaching transport. To her relief, she recognized Zade, and stopped immediately. When he stopped and jumped out to run to her, she hurled herself into his arms. “Are you harmed, Rada?” Zade demanded sharply, holding her at arm’s length to examine her face. “I am unharmed, my darling. Just very frightened and I need for you to hold me close.” Zade immediately wrapped his arms around her protectively and held her shaking body close. The Enforcers came upon them within the next few minutes, and Rada told them where to find Chudz. Zade placed her in his transport and followed behind the Enforcers. Chudz struggled, cursed, and promised all sorts of vengeance on Rada and Zade. He was made immobile and put in the back of a transport. Two of the Enforcers stayed behind to question Rada about the abduction. She answered their questions while holding Zade’s hand. Eventually, the questions were all answered, and Rada’s accounting filed with the Council. Kidnapping was considered vile, and Chudz would forfeit the rest of his life on a penal colony. He would not have the opportunity to bring harm to anyone else. Rada was happy that Zade came for her, and she was reluctant to step more than two inches away from him. She was still terribly frightened, and so thankful to be rescued from Chudz. “You need to call Caray and put her mind at ease, Zade instructed as he seated her within his transport. She acted quickly on your behalf, Rada. I am most grateful to her and wish to honor her in some way. What do you suggest?” he asked his wife’s input as she reached for his communicator. Chudz destroyed hers, of course. He was not about to give her an opportunity to summon help. “I will need to think on this, husband,” Rada replied. Caray answered the summons immediately, and Rada thanked her for her assistance. Caray burst into tears of relief, and Rada did her best to comfort and calm the young woman. It was a relief to know that Caray’s husband was with her, and Rada quickly said that Zandle should take his wife home and give her something to soothe her nerves. Zandle agreed that he would, and Rada turned off the communicator. “Caray is most upset and is still frightened. She did well to remain calm enough to call you for assistance, Zade.” She noticed the firm set
of her husband’s mouth and could not help but feel anxious. “I have earned your displeasure,” she whispered sadly. “It is not to discuss this moment.” Zade took her hand in his. “You have had a serious fright, and I would see you home and comforted, my darling. I feared for your safety, and I need to assure myself that no harm was done to you.” “I was merely frightened, husband. Chudz did not harm me in any way,” Rada insisted as her lovely green eyes filled with tears. “I knew you would come for me.” Zade’s communicator signaled once more, and since Rada was holding it she looked to see who was trying to contact her husband. She smiled and quickly answered. “Hello, Father.” She smiled again as she listened. “I am fine, Father. Zade came immediately and I am saved. We are on our way home.” She looked at her husband questioningly, and smiled when he nodded in understanding. “Of course you and Mother may come by.” Harlan said something else, and she closed her eyes, and Zade saw she was blinking away tears. “I am so sorry you were frightened. Tell Mother not to fear; I am unharmed, but I would love to see you both. We shall arrive home within forty-five minutes.” More listening. “No, the children are with Lissa. She and Alexander made plans for an outing for the cousins, and they are off and enjoying the day.” A smile. “Very well, Father. We will see you and Mother shortly. Be safe, now.” “Father said Mother was crying and distressed. I am thankful I was able to relieve their concerns. Father says that Mother wishes to see me for herself, and I am grateful you do not mind that they pay a visit.” “They are your parents, Rada. Of course I do not mind,” Zade replied in surprise. He well understood Harlan’s and Diki’s need to see their daughter and make sure there were no bruises. They had seen Saylee, and knew as well as he what the man was capable of doing when he was angry. He could not believe his wife ignored his directives for her safety, and he shuddered to think what would have happened had he not taken precautions to keep her safe by putting the tracking device in her bag. He still could not believe she managed to free herself from Chudz, and knew she was fortunate he did not harm her. “Do you need to return to your office?” Rada asked suddenly. She did not wish to be alone, and needed his support right now. “I will not return to work today, Rada,” Zade promised. He needed to be with her as much as she needed him to be with her. They sat close and were soon home. Harlan and Diki were already arrived, and Diki rushed forward to take Rada in her arms. “I am fine, Mother,” Rada insisted. “Are you sure, dear? If he harmed you, it would not be your fault…?” Diki asked tearfully. “He did not harm me, Mother; that is the absolute truth.” Diki held her at arm’s length and finally seemed satisfied that Rada was being honest with her. “I was so terrified,” Diki whispered. “I could not bear for you to be harmed!” “Diki, you can see that Rada is well; please release her so that we may go inside. The neighbors will start to wonder!” Harlan was teasing his wife, but Zade could see the man was trying to make light of the situation to control his own emotions. Harlan’s face was haggard, and Zade knew he was trying to hide his rage and anger. Zade couldn’t help but wonder how much of
that anger was directed at him for not keeping Rada under protection, as was his duty. He had failed miserably, and Harlan would be within his rights to issue a lecture. Once they were inside, Rada announced, “I am starving. I did not get lunch, and I am sure you did not eat anything either, did you, husband?” Zade knew that busying herself in the kitchen was exactly what Rada needed to do to calm herself and feel normal. He admitted that he had not eaten, and was not surprised when Harlan stated he could eat something now, too. Rada and Diki went into the kitchen while he and Harlan went into the social room to take a seat. The house communicator signaled, and Zade excused himself long enough to speak with Lissa and Alex, and appraise them of the situation. Lissa promptly offered to keep Stennot and Tera overnight, and Zade promptly agreed. He would have to deal with his wife’s disregard of her safety, even though he did not wish to do so and appear that her obedience was more important to him that the fact she was unharmed. Still, if she had obeyed him and followed the precautions he issued, Chudz would not have had the opportunity to kidnap her off the street. Rada earned a serious correction, and she would face that correction before the day was over. How was he to keep her safe if she did not permit him to do so? He thanked Lissa for keeping the children for the night, and then turned his attention to Harlan, who was frowning. “Sir, I am very sorry I failed in my protection of Rada.” “You are not responsible for Chudz’s actions, Zade,” Harlan said quietly. “And, you could not know my daughter would disregard your wishes and leave her business.” “You know that I gave her a set of safety rules to adhere to while Chudz was at large?” Zade asked in surprise. “I know that you protect my daughter well, Zade, and I also know how stubborn and headstrong my child can be. I am amazed that you were able to follow Rada, though. How did you know the direction Chudz would travel? Did Saylee mention something that would give you a clue?” “I placed a tracker in Rada’s bag as a precaution,” Zade admitted, and Harlan nodded, and then chuckled. “What is so amusing?” Zade asked in a puzzled tone of voice. “You know my daughter very well,” Harlan said. “You knew well that she would not heed your warnings and use caution.” He shook his head, and then said in resignation, “I am sure you intend to make her regret her disobedience?” “I have no choice in the matter, Harlan,” Zade said regretfully. “It seems wrong somehow when she has barely escaped a terrifying situation, but I cannot ignore the fact she disobeyed me and nearly brought harm upon herself, and upon this House.” Harlan nodded in agreement. “You would do well to be very firm, Zade. Her disregard nearly cost her serious problems, not to mention the worry to those of us who love her.” “I am just sorry I was not there to protect her, sir,” Zade repeated himself, feeling guilty. “But, you did, husband!” Rada said earnestly as she walked into the room behind her Mother, carrying a tray. She put the tray down on the low center table, and then placed her hand on Zade’s cheek. “You did protect me, Zade. You talked to me inside my head the entire time, and I followed the words you’ve spoken many times. I remained calm, and paid attention to where I was, and that is how I got the code to start Chudz’s transport. I waited for the right opportunity to make my escape. And, you are the one who
taught me how to defend myself in such a way it would give me time to run away. Do you recall making me practice self defense? I did not think it necessary, but you insisted that I might need the knowledge someday, and you wished me to be prepared. I did as you taught me, my darling, and that is how I escaped Chudz and ran to you. You were with me the entire time,” she said so emotionally that Zade found himself moved nearly to tears. Zade pulled her into his arms and kissed her, not minding that her parents were sitting there watching. He needed to hold her close, and her words did more to ease his guilty than she could ever imagine. He well remembered all those practice sessions, and he remembered having to give her a spanking or two so that she would pay serious attention to his training. Thank God he insisted. “These sandwiches look very good.” Harlan broke the spell, and reminded Zade that he and Rada were not alone. Diki’s face was pink, although she was smiling happily. Harlan thought it best that they eat a bite, and then leave Zade to the unpleasant task of punishing his wife. Harlan did not like knowing that Rada was to be punished, and probably quite severely, but he loved his daughter too much to protect her from her husband’s ire. Rada needed a sound punishment. He sighed, and took a bite of his sandwich. He noticed that Diki was more quiet than usual as they ate and visited, but he decided to wait a bit to question her. Finally, he decided it was time to leave, but Diki refused to take a hint, even though he’d made it plain enough she should be rising to her feet. Diki gave Harlan a meaningful look, but the man was obtuse. She did not wish to leave. It was obvious that Zade was angry, and it was her opinion that Rada had been through enough turmoil for the day. She did not need a punishment on top of being kidnapped by Chudz. Harlan gave her a meaningful look in return, and Diki shook her head ‘no’. Why couldn’t the man understand that she was not budging right now! “Mother!” Rada was growing alarmed at her mother’s defiance. If she had ignored Zade so many times, Zade would be picking her up and carrying her out of the room, and she would be in for a serious punishment when they arrived home. Rada could not miss the angry look in her Father’s eyes, and wondered at her Mother’s behavior. “Mother,” she repeated. “I think Father is trying to tell you he would like to leave.” She hoped the woman would smile and say, “Oh! I am sorry, Harlan. Of course we shall leave now.” But, she did not. “I am not ready to leave. Of course, he is free to go if he chooses,” Diki said calmly, and the heated look in her eyes was so unusual that Zade looked at Rada in shock. “Are you trying to earn my displeasure, Diki?” Harlan demanded. “If so, you have certainly succeeded. You will prepare yourself to leave at once.” “Why? Perhaps I wanted to visit with my daughter for a while longer?” Diki argued. Harlan rose to his feet, and to Rada’s shock, he walked over to where his wife was seated and pulled her to her feet. “We will take our leave, NOW,” he stated quietly, but with strong emphasis on the last word. “My apologies for this scene in your home, Zade.” He leveled his eyes on his daughter and said, “I am well aware that you have earned your husband’s displeasure, young lady, and I want you to know that I fully support whatever punishment you are given. You did not obey your husband, and as a
result you were kidnapped. You were frightened badly, but so were all of us who love you. You will not use your fear or upset in an attempt to lessen the punishment you have earned, and if I feel you were not punished severely enough, I will insist Zade reapply himself to the task of making you regret your disobedience and defiance.” “Harlan, I am shocked at you!” Diki spoke in a scolding tone of voice. She was very disappointed in him for his attitude. “I would think you would be more considerate of Rada’s feelings! This was a terrible ordeal for her to suffer, and the last thing she needs is a punishment on top of being kidnapped! You men! All you think of is your stupid consequences!” Rada gasped in shock. It was so unlike her Mother to speak in this fashion, and she feared her Father would not let it pass. He did not. “You would do well to think of your own consequences, wife, for you have managed to earn a correction for yourself.” Diki’s eyes opened wide in shock. Harlan had not punished her since Rada was married, and she was positive she was too old for such a thing to happen now! She remained silent as Harlan escorted her to their transport, and the trip home was in silence as well. “Go into our chamber, Diki, and remove your clothing. You are to be punished,” Harlan announced as they entered the house. “But, husband, I am too old for a punishment! We are no longer a young couple,” she reminded him. “And you are also old enough to know better than to behave so disrespectfully, wife. Go now, or you will be taking the Punishment Strap out of the closet and feeling its bite as well.” Diki did not wish for Harlan to use the Punishment Strap. It was very severe, and she had thought herself well past the point it would be taken down and used again. She went into their bedroom and removed her shoes, and then her slacks and undergarment. She did not believe that Harlan expected her to remove her top and bra, so she left those on and then sat on the bed and waited for him to come to her. Harlan did not keep Diki waiting very long. He walked into their chamber and stood in front of her. “Why are you about to be punished, wife?” “I do not know!” she replied. “Diki, with the exception of one time at the beginning of our marriage, every punishment you have earned is because of your overprotective nature concerning Rada. She earned a lesson this day, and I would not feel that Zade was a good husband if he did not take pains to correct her. You cannot protect her from her husband when she does not deserve protection, and you will not rail at me in front of others, even if those others are our family. You were disrespectful today, and I will not permit that kind of behavior. Stand up,” he ordered. Diki was already regretting her behavior. Harlan was right to scold her, and even to punish her. She watched as he sat where she had been sitting, and when he motioned for her to lie over his lap, and over the bed, she got into place. “I am sorry, Harlan. Please forgive me for behaving so badly.” “I do forgive you, Diki, but you will still have the sore bottom you earned.” Diki could not believe that Harlan’s hand was still so firm and unyielding when applied to her soft and tender bottom! The spanking was long and hard and she could not
help crying out as the heat and fire on her bottom cheeks grew and grew. The stinging was intense, and by the time Harlan stopped spanking her, she was sobbing. “I am so sorry, Harlan,” she apologized yet again. “Do you think you can behave now, Diki?” Harlan asked gently. His wife’s rounded bottom was a deep crimson, and he knew she had to be in pain. He hated that, but he loved her too much to permit her to behave badly. Just as Zade loved their Rada. “I will behave, husband,” Diki promised, and was rewarded when Harlan helped her to turn over on the bed, and then leaned down to kiss her tenderly. “I love you, Diki,” he whispered, and then held her close. Harlan hoped with all his heart that Zade would remember to let Rada know she was punished with love, too.
Chapter Seven Zade was quick to notice the tears in his wife’s lovely green eyes, and he understood that she was upset over the disagreement between Harlan and Diki. It was unlike Diki to be so forceful, and it was unlike Harlan to give a correction to his wife, but there was no doubt in either his or Rada’s mind that a correction would be forthcoming as soon as Harlan arrived home with Diki in tow. Zade hated knowing that his mother-inlaw thought him a beast for considering punishment for Rada instead of providing her with nothing but comfort after her ordeal with Chudz of Castor. Zade was not happy at the prospect of punishing his wife, but she disobeyed the rules he made to keep her safe. He would be a poor husband indeed if he permitted her disobedience to go unpunished. Rada placed her life in danger, and he did not find that acceptable, and it would not be tolerated. She earned a serious punishment, just as Harlan stated, and it was Zade’s duty to make the punishment severe enough that Rada would have no doubt as to her value to him and to her family as a whole. He would take no joy in making her cry, but she would cry many tears before he considered the incident closed. “I feel terrible that Mother is to be punished because of me,” Rada whispered tearfully. “I cannot recall a time when I have seen Father so displeased with her, and it is all my fault!” she told Zade. “Your Mother loves you as you love Stennot and Tera; I am sure it is not easy for her to know that you are to be corrected, especially after she was so frightened for your safety, Rada. However, she was disrespectful to Harlan, and to this House, and she earned the correction she will receive. You are not responsible for her actions, but if you had obeyed the safety precautions I set for your protection, the situation with Chudz would not have occurred in the first place, and no, your Mother would not have been so frightened that she would find herself speaking so disrespectfully to her husband. She knows that what you did was to put your very life in danger of forfeit, and she knows that I would not be a conscientious husband were I to permit you to get away with this behavior and let it go unpunished. You may go and take care of any personal needs you may have, Rada, and then you will disrobe completely, and join me in the study. While you are attending to this matter, I will set up your punishment. Do you have any questions?” he asked of her. “No, sir. I am very sorry I earned your displeasure,” Rada said softly, and added, “I am anxious to make amends so that I may be forgiven.” “Very well.” Rada walked away to do as he told her, and took the time to make sure everything in her kitchen was shut off, and then she went to their bedchamber and into their personal area. She removed her clothing, and took a few moments to relieve herself, while trying not to think about the punishment she was to receive. She knew that her husband did not believe in doing things by half measures, and the punishment would fit the fear he suffered as he hurried to rescue her. She treated the guidelines and rules Zade set for her safety with disrespect, and as a result of her disobedience, Chudz was able to kidnap her and make all sorts of threats toward her and toward her House. Zade would not take her blatant disregard of his rules lightly, and, she scolded herself, he would have punished her for leaving her store to go to lunch with Caray even if she had not been taken by Chudz. Rada behaved foolishly and she earned whatever correction Zade felt
suitable. It made her sad, however, to know that he had every right to be displeased with her, and she hoped the punishment would ease her guilt and help her husband find it within his heart to forgive her actions. Rada did not like walking through their home without clothing to cover her body. Even though she and Zade were alone in their home, it somehow seemed so inappropriate. She trusted that Zade would permit no one else to see her in this state, but nevertheless, it was still embarrassing to walk about with nothing to cover her body. Zade thought his wife was even more beautiful now than she was when they joined in marriage over ten years ago. Her body was fuller, and she was certainly all woman now. He had to stop his natural reaction to her beauty and remind himself that she was in here to receive a punishment to make her regret her actions and remind her in the future that she was to obey him. He could tell the exact moment Rada spotted the punishment mat resting on the chair he’d placed in the middle of the floor. Her lovely green eyes widened in dismay, and just as quickly filled with resignation. Zade could see that she was feeling extremely guilty, and that she was determined to accept her punishment. He regretted that he needed to be so firm, but she would have no respect for him if he was easy on her, and she would think her value to him far less than it was. For this reason alone, Zade accepted that he would have to see to it that Rada regretted her actions far more than she already did, and he did not doubt that her remorse was genuine. She had had a bad fright. Rada swallowed hard to control the fear she felt at the sight of the punishment mat. Zade had pulled a chair out into the middle of the floor, and the rough looking mat was placed on the seat. He had only punished her with the mat one other time in their marriage, and she never forgot that lesson, nor had she repeated the incident that caused him to use the mat for punishment. She had hoped to never give him reason to choose it again, but she put her life in danger and caused him great fear. He would follow what he promised, of course, and she would sit the entire length of the time he worried over her safety… unless he specified differently. And, if he kept his prior word, she would not have the aid of lotion to lessen the terrible stinging the mat would inflict, even after she was given permission to rise. The hour following the use of the punishment mat only increased the intensity of the sting, and without the special lotion, she would definitely be praying for time to pass quickly! Rada closed her eyes, dreading the next couple of hours. “Do you have any doubts about why you are to be punished, Rada?” Zade asked in a formal tone of voice. “No, sir.” “Then please tell me exactly why this is to be a serious correction, wife.” He wanted to be certain she saw things clearly, and that her reasons were the same as his reasons. It would not do to have her mind on something other than the real reason she was in disgrace, and he was only too aware that Rada’s mind was capable of taking another tangent altogether. “I would be sure that we are in agreement as to the seriousness of the situation.” “I am sure you are most distressed over the fact I put myself in danger, Zade,” Rada answered immediately. “I disregarded your instructions for my safety, and showed you disrespect by disobeying you and going out of the store with Caray for lunch today. I also made you feel shame in front of Father because you felt you did not live up to your responsibility to protect me as you would wish. I regret that most of all, Zade. I would not
have you feel less than the wonderful husband you are. I knew in my heart that you would come for me today if Caray but let you know I was in need. I regret my disregard of your attempts to protect me, and I understand your need for correction.” She tilted her head to one side and added, “I also feel terrible that my Mother earned correction due to my actions.” Zade quickly realized that Rada needed the punishment in order to rid herself of the guilt. She was already remorseful, and there was none of her usual, normal resistance to the thought of facing a correction. He would have to be very firm with her so that she would be able to forgive herself. “Very well, we will begin.” Zade took a seat on the leather sofa, and motioned for her to come to him. When she approached the sofa, Rada noticed that both the paddle and the punishment strap were lying beside him, and he had a leather ottoman placed directly in front of where he was seated. She surmised that she was going to be placed across the ottoman, instead of over his lap, which meant she would have the added punishment of holding herself in place for the punishment. Zade would not give her aid, and if she did not obey him and control herself, she would receive extras. It was going to be the worst punishment of her marriage. “Lie over this ottoman, Rada, and put your hands on the floor in front of you. I expect you to remain in place until I tell you otherwise. You may not raise your hands to reach back, and if you do, the spanking will start over until I am satisfied you have had enough. Once the spanking is over, we will proceed with the paddle. When you have been paddled, you will receive at least twenty with the punishment strap, and then you will sit on the punishment mat for a minimum of one hour. If you earn extras during this spanking, your time on the punishment mat will be increased. You will not have the use of lotion after your punishment, Rada. I want you to endure the full effect, and when we are finished, you will tell me if you feel you are punished enough or if we need to repeat this punishment in another week. Are you in complete understanding of what to expect?” he asked quietly. “Yes, sir.” “I do this because I love you, Rada. Because you put your very life in danger today, and I will NEVER permit you to do this and escape the consequences of doing so. Please put yourself in position.” Rada sighed deeply, trying to find her courage to face the next few hours. It was going to be very difficult to do as Zade asked and keep her hands on the floor, but she would do her very best to show him that she accepted her punishment. Once she was in place, Zade did not waste time beginning. The burn and sting on her right cheek were as explosive as the sound of his hand on her flesh. The spanking continued for what seemed like forever, and it was all Rada could do to keep her hands on the floor and not make any attempt to protect her aching bottom. The words he used to scold her burned her ears as much as his hand burned her flesh. She cried and cried, but did not ask him to stop, knowing full well he would not do so until her backside felt scalded. Then, and only then, would he switch to the paddle and prove to her that she could hurt even worse than she already did! Zade knew that Rada was trying to be brave and accept the spanking and he admired her for lying as still as possible and for keeping her hands out of the way. Every so often her right foot came up off the floor when he spanked a particularly tender spot,
but he would not hold that against her. She was crying hard when he switched to the wooden paddle. It’s sting was much worse than what his hand alone could produce, and he expected that she would find it a lot more difficult to stay in place. “Owwww!” Rada yelled when Zade brought the paddle down squarely on the middle of her bottom. Its bite was much worse, and on an already sore and burning bottom, it was miserable. “Owwwww!” she cried out a second time. “Does this hurt, Rada?” Zade demanded, spanking again. “Yes, sir!” she replied immediately. “It hurts too much!” she complained. “I don’t know if I can be still for this!” she said with fear in her voice. “Will you help me stay down?” she begged. “No, I will not. You earned this paddling, and you will accept every bit of it on your own. No matter how much it hurts, I am sure it is nothing compared to the pain Chudz intended to inflict upon your body. Am I correct?” he asked, spanking her with the paddle once more. “Yes, sir!” Rada admitted, crying. “I am already so sore…!” “You will be much sorer before this night is over, I promise.” Zade steeled himself against her tears and cries of pain, and he paddled her over and over for several long minutes. Her upper thighs and sit spot were as red as her cheeks by the time he stopped this second part of her spanking. “I am going to give you a fifteen minute break to compose yourself, Rada. You may go and stand in the corner, and think about how the punishment strap is going to feel next.” Zade was shocked when his normally feisty wife went straight to the corner without argument. She did not even give him a look of resentment or anger, but merely complied with his wishes. She was still feeling guilty, and he only hoped the last part of her spanking rid her of those feelings. Zade did not think he could bring himself to be so harsh with her a second time. While he knew he was doing the right thing, the expected thing, it gave him pain. He wished with all his heart he could put the punishment mat away and have no reason to use it, but Rada needed the experience to feel loved and cherished. Afterwards, he would hold her and take care of her, and make sure she knew how much he loved her, Zade promised himself. Rada was in terrible pain and had no idea how on earth she would survive twenty or more with the punishment strap. Zade rarely used the thing, preferring his hand and the paddle, but when he did, he did a thorough job of making her regret the behavior that earned his displeasure. She would struggle through somehow, and then all she would have to endure was her time on the punishment mat. That frightened her more than all the other punishments put together. Her bottom would feel like it had been set on fire by the time she was permitted to rise, and without the lotion, she would endure another hour of extreme torment before the heat started to slowly recede. It was going to be awful… and the worst part was knowing full well it was deserved. She frightened Zade and her parents, and Caray, and she would endure the punishment without complaining. Zade called to Rada, and this time he bade her bend over and place her hands on the ottoman, and he had her spread her feet slightly apart. “I want a nice target so that I can stripe you evenly,” he told her. “You will count each one of these, Rada, and tell me how sorry you are.” The first stripe landed across the fullest part of her buttocks, and Rada hissed in pain before she said, “One, sir. I am sorry for my behavior.” The second was a repeat of the first, and Zade worked his way down over her sit spot and upper thighs, and all the
way to the top. By the time she’d had ten, Rada’s legs were in danger of buckling, and she didn’t know how she was going to get through the rest. She was overwhelmed with the pain and at the point of panic. “Please, Zade. I need assistance. I will take the last ten, but cannot do it without your support. I beg you to help me…! Please…!” Zade wrapped his left arm around her waist and placed his foot on the stool and underneath her body. It raised her several inches off the floor, but he could not resist the pleading in her voice. He made the last ten even harder, and prayed she would not notice the tears in his eyes when he finished. Sitting her on the punishment mat was the hardest thing he’d ever done in his life, especially when she let out a little scream of pain when her inflamed skin met the rough surface of the mat. “Your time begins now, Rada. There is to be no talking at all. You will sit there and contemplate how dangerous it was for you to refuse my protection today.” Sitting on the punishment mat was even worse than she had expected it to be, Rada realized. It felt like thousands and thousands of needles were pricking her tender skin all at once, and if she tried to get a bit more comfortable, the pain increased tenfold. She was beyond miserable, and had at least an entire hour to submit to the extreme discomfort she was experiencing. The worst part was knowing it would grow more and more intense the longer she sat. Zade tried to sit at his desk and work, but the look of pure misery on Rada’s face made him ache deep inside. She was crying silently and the tears were running down her face and dripping on her breasts. She was sweating from the effort it took to remain still and he could see that the longer she sat there, the harder it was becoming for her. He got up and walked to her and placed his hand on her cheek. “You know that I love you, my darling, and yet this pain is nearly unbearable. How much worse would it be to endure the pain Chudz wanted to give you, knowing he hated you?” Her eyes blinked away more tears. “I hate to see you suffer this, Rada, but I love you too much not to see you through to the end of what was promised. You have another thirty minutes to sit here before I will permit you to rise. Do you believe you can endure this, knowing I do this out of love?” he asked hoarsely. Rada reached up and touched him, and whispered, “I will do as you wish, husband. I would have your forgiveness.” Zade nodded, then leaned down and kissed her. “You already are forgiven, darling. Think now of our children and how they would feel if they lost their mother, and how you would feel if Tera were kidnapped by a man like Chudz. Is it any wonder your Mother was worried?” he asked, deliberately letting her know that her actions affected those around her, those who loved her deeply. Zade went back to his desk, and hard as it was for him to do, he permitted his wife to endure the rest of the punishment. Rada was relieved when Zade came to her and helped her off of the punishment mat. Her entire backside felt raw, and all she could do was cry and cling to him as he held her close. She wanted to beg for the lotion, but would do nothing at this point to earn herself a repeat of the punishment. Zade picked his wife up in his arms and carried her to their chamber and he placed her in their bed. He left her side, and came back with a warm washcloth and washed her face. “Are you still hurting as much?” he asked kindly. “Yes, the sting grows more and more with each second. It is truly awful, Zade!” She continued to cry. He left her again, and when he returned, he gently applied the
soothing lotion to her delicate skin. The relief was nearly instant. The pain was still there, but the stinging sensation was abated somewhat. “Thank you, darling,” Rada said gratefully. “Thank you.” “You have suffered enough, wife. I would reward you for your acceptance of your punishment. It was harsh, and you did very well. I am proud of you, Rada.” He leaned down to kiss her gently, and said, “I love you with all my heart. I am thankful you are safe from harm.” Rada relaxed, knowing she was forgiven. Zade turned off the lights, and came to bed. He held her and comforted her, and she knew without doubt she was cherished and loved. She hoped her Father remembered to tell her Mother that he loved her, too. Rada was surprised when Zade did not go to work the next day, and even more surprised when he fixed breakfast and brought a tray to their chamber. He was pampering her like a new bride! The tray was laden with special foods. “This looks lovely, Zade.” She smiled at him as she lie on her side and propped her head up with one arm. Sitting on the soft mattress was unthinkable. Her bottom was truly too sore to sit on, for even long enough to eat. “I hope you will eat something, Rada. I know you are extremely sore this morning, but you must have nourishment.” Her bottom had marks from the strap, and truly looked like she was badly sunburned from the punishment mat. He would not leave her alone to fend for herself today. Even sitting to relieve herself would make her cry in pain, and she needed to have extra care. Rada loved this side of her husband, and she tried to eat a bit, just to please him and thank him for his efforts. Finally, she had no choice but to announce, “I must get up, Zade, and go to the personal room.” “I will help you, wife. You will need assistance this day.” She did not believe him, but when she tried to get out of bed, she was shocked to learn just how painful it was to walk! And when she tried to sit to relieve herself, the pain in her bottom brought tears to her eyes. Once she was finished, she asked Zade to turn on the cleanser so she could bathe. To her surprise, he stripped out of his clothing and joined her, and adjusted the temperature so that it provided relief for her. “I will apply some healing gel, Rada,” Zade promised, his voice full of regret for what she suffered. “Zade, please stop. I am not so fragile that I will collapse from a punishment. I know that you love me, and I do not fault you for loving me so much. I earned the punishment and I do not wish for you to feel guilty now.” To his surprise, she kissed him thoroughly. “Will you permit me to take care of you today just so I feel better?” he asked with a gentle smile. “Of course I will. I am happy you are home with me today,” she smiled in return. Zade was true to his word, and once she was patted dry, he applied a soothing gel to her bottom and thighs, easing the burn somewhat. He suggested she remain in bed, and felt like kicking himself when she readily agreed. It was not like Rada to lie in bed, even when she was ill. He eavesdropped shamelessly when Diki called to check on her daughter, and he was proud of Rada when she apologized to her Mother for worrying her, and for upsetting her to the point she felt she had to defy Harlan. Her Mother told her that it was
not her fault, but her own, and asked if Rada was made to regret her foolishness in not accepting Zade’s protection. Rada assured Diki she did regret her actions, and then whispered, “Do not worry, Mama. I am also assured of Zade’s love for me.” Zade was relieved, and made the day as special as possible for Rada… and for himself, too. Lissa was keeping Stennot and Tera another night so that Rada would not be concerned over their care, and Zade cleared his appointments for the next day so that he could stay home and help with the children so that Rada would not overdo. The door alert sounded just after they ate lunch, and Zade asked, “Were you expecting anyone, Rada?” “No, I was not,” she replied. “Perhaps I should dress…?” “No, I will tell whoever is calling that this is a bad time for a visit.” Zade left the room, anxious to send whoever it was on their way. But, to his surprise, both of his brothers were outside his door, and insisted they needed his advice.
Chapter Eight Zade was not a bit happy to see his younger brothers at this time. He was forced to administer severe punishment to his precious Rada the day before and she did not need company of any sort this day. He wanted to give her his undivided attention and shower her with his love and protection and care for her needs without interruption. Rada did not need to have to explain herself to his brothers, and Zade was well aware they would both demand to know what she had done to earn his serious displeasure. Their questions would be out of genuine concern, Zade was well aware they both loved little Rada and would do anything for her, even to the point of taking up her cause against their own brother should they feel she was mistreated in any way. Still, Rada was not up to their company. “You have come at a time when my own house needs my attention. Would tomorrow work as well?” he asked in a patient tone of voice. He did love his brothers. “What is wrong, brother?” Grodot was quick to ask. “Is Rada ill? One of the little ones?” he worried. “We will help with whatever concerns you, Zade,” Wardon insisted. It was unlike Zade to refuse them advice. “Zade, I would not have you refuse your brothers,” Rada said in a soft voice. “Please come inside, Wardon and Grodot.” “You should not be out of bed, Rada,” Zade gently scolded. “I needed to see if there was a problem of some sort. I worry about Tera and Stennot,” she explained. “You do not look well, Rada,” Wardon frowned. “Should we call for medical help?” “Please do not!” she exclaimed, and her face flooded with color at the thought of a Doctor coming only to learn she had been punished. Wardon looked at Grodot, and she easily interpreted the look. “I did something extremely foolish yesterday and endured Zade’s displeasure. It was a serious matter and dealt with accordingly. Zade is reassuring me of his love today by caring for me.” She smiled at her husband and said, “It would please me if you would speak with your brothers, my husband. I will rest now and give you privacy.” “I will return shortly. Have a seat in the social room,” Zade ordered gruffly, and then picked Rada up and carried her back to their chamber. He gently placed her in bed once again. “Rest now, sweetheart.” “I love you, Zade.” She kissed him tenderly. “I promise I will be much better tomorrow.” “I know you will, darling.” Zade vowed he would never punish her so severely again in their marriage. He could not bear seeing her so sore. “What did little Rada do to earn such a severe punishment, brother?” Grodot demanded, his dark eyes full of fire. “She was in pain!” Zade realized that he was not going to hear a word of their troubles until he convinced them he did not mistreat Rada. He told them of the kidnapping, and how close he came to losing Rada, and watched their eyes fill with fear. “I had Harlan’s complete backing for the punishment, and did what was expected of me, but I will not deny that I
feel like a mean bastard. It hurt me to be so severe, and I will never punish her like that again.” “I am sure this type of situation will never present itself again, Zade,” Grodot offered comfort. “Rada earned your displeasure.” “Yes, she did. Chudz of Castor would have injured or killed her. He meant to force himself on her. Your punishment was given with love, and after ten years of marriage Rada knows how much you cherish her. The lesson needed to be harsh, Zade,” Wardon said without humor. He then smiled and said, “Your wife is still gazing upon you with love in her eyes, big brother. She thinks no less of you for doing your duty by her.” Zade smiled at his brothers. “Thank you both for your understanding and support. Punishments are a duty that I would rather not have to perform, but since you are both married now, I am sure you well understand. How are things going in your homes?” he asked, wanting to get to the purpose of their visit. “My House is doing well, Zade,” Grodot answered with a grin. “Betta is a sweet woman and tries to please me. I am spoiled by her.” “This is good,” Zade nodded. “If all is well in your House, then I assume you are having a problem with your work?” “Yes. I think one of my employees is stealing,” Grodot did not mince words. “Do you have an idea who is doing this?” Zade was all business now. “Yes, and that is the part that troubles me; all the evidence points to Charles of Nalma.” “What?” Wardon exclaimed. “He is a good friend of yours! We have enjoyed his company on many occasions! I do not believe he would steal from anyone, and especially not from you! Are you positive of this, Grodot?” “As I said, all the evidence points to Charles, but I believe as you do, Wardon. I do not think Charles would steal. He still looks me in the eye and bedevils me as always. We are good friends, and good friends do not steal from each other. I feel he is being framed, and I came to ask Zade for assistance in forming a plan to catch whomever is doing this.” The three men discussed strategy, and came up with a plan to out the true thief. Zade insisted that Grodot promise to permit the law to deal with the situation rather than confront a person who could be dangerous, and Grodot just grinned at his brother and reminded him that he was an adult and too old for his brother to punish. Zade agreed, but reminded his brother that he was loved by his family and to remember that if he was tempted to behave foolishly. “Wardon, I am anxious to put this plan into operation, and would take my leave now, unless you need for me to stay and help with whatever is troubling you?” Grodot offered and meant every word. “No, my problem is more of a personal nature, and your Betta is of sweet nature, unlike my Sondi. You will not have experience in this matter.” Wardon grinned. “Go on and catch the thief. If you need help to crack his head open, let me know.” Grodot chuckled and nodded, then bade his brothers goodbye and left to go back to his office. “You are having problems with Sondi?” Zade asked once he returned from walking Grodot to the door.
“I am wondering if my marriage was a mistake, Zade,” Wardon admitted. “Sondi is miserable and I fear she hates everything about me. I have been patient with her, and have given her time to adjust to marriage, but nothing pleases her. She does not like our home. The clothing I chose for her is all wrong. She refuses to plan a party to welcome our family and friends. And, even worse, she will not speak to her own mother and brother.” “Have you put her over your knee and spanked her and told her to knock off the childish tantrum she is having?” Zade demanded. “She told me her father beat her as a child and she will run away if I lay a hand on her in that manner.” “And making love? Does she enjoy that?” Zade asked. “No. She was hysterical on our wedding night, and nothing has improved. She claims that making love is rape. I cannot join her in our chamber knowing she feels this way.” He looked at Zade and said sadly, “She does not want to be married to me, Zade, and keeps begging me to release her.” “Have you discussed this with her mother and brother?” “I barely know them. The only time we have spoken was before the wedding, and right after in the Receiving Room. Her mother is a quiet woman, and she was extremely upset that day. Her brother was angry and sat in the corner alone. He did not even bid us good bye when we left for our Mandatory Solitude. I am at my wits end, Zade. My instincts tell me that a damned good spanking would break through that temper and icy attitude of hers, but if she was abused by her father, I could harm her mentally, and after what I saw Saylee suffer, I would not be accused of the same.” “Your first step, Wardon, is to go and see Sondi’s mother and brother. Discuss her childhood with them, and verify she is speaking the truth. It could be that she is merely full of resentment at being forced to marry. My own Rada was not happy at the idea. She wanted to own her own floral business, and was afraid her husband would not permit her to work. It could be that Sondi had dreams of her own and feels cheated of them.” “I never thought of that,” Wardon admitted, smiling. “I think you could be right, Zade. I will speak to Sondi’s mother today.” “If you learn she has lied to you, then you need to set her straight, Wardon. A spanking for each lie, and each time she disappoints you. If she behaves as a child, she needs to be taught it will avail her nothing but your displeasure. If you do learn that she wishes a career of some sort, it will be up to you to decide how you can make it work, if it is something you wish to do. In short, Sondi needs to learn right now that she cannot dictate your marriage.” “I knew you would have sound advice, Zade. Thank you for listening,” Wardon said as he got to his feet. “Thank Rada for sharing you with us this day.” “I will. Let me know how things are progressing, Wardon,” Zade ordered, then shut the door on him and went to check on Rada. “Is everything all right?” she asked in concern. “I am glad you insisted I welcome them and listen to their problems, Rada,” Zade lie down beside her and pulled her over to lie on top of him. “Grodot has a work related problem, and Wardon is having trouble in his House.” He kissed her tenderly. “Have I told you today that I love you, Rada?”
“Yes, husband, you have, but I never get tired of hearing those words. I love you, too.” Zade held her and talked about his brothers, and once he confided his fears for his brothers, Rada kissed him and told him they would be fine. She made him feel better, and they napped in each other’s arms. ******************** Wardon was nervous as he rang the door alert. He heard a bit of movement on the other side of the door and it was opened by his mother-in-law. “Wardon, it is a pleasure to welcome you to my home. Please come inside. Sondi is not with you?” Meerna asked in disappointment. “No, she does not know I am here, Meerna. I have come to ask you questions about Sondi’s childhood so that I may know how to deal with her as her husband. Our marriage is not doing well, and I wish to remedy things before they reach the point that nothing can be done.” “Ohhhh! I am so sorry!” Meerna was flustered and embarrassed, and Grodot found himself wishing he had spoken more carefully. “I will help in any way I can! I fear I spoiled my daughter and was not firm enough with her after her father died.” “Could we sit down and talk about this?” Wardon asked politely. Meerna was genuinely upset and he felt she needed the support of a chair. “Of course! Where are my manners!” she scolded herself. She led the way into a nicely decorated social room and Wardon looked about curiously. The room was comfortable and homey, not at all what his wife led him to believe. “Where should I start?” Meerna asked nervously. “Tell me about Sondi as a child.” He smiled at her and watched her relax. Meerna started talking and Wardon listened, his anger growing by the minute. It was obvious Sondi lied to him; she was never abused and most of the other things she told him were false as well. She merely wanted to control him and used her lies and threats to do it. Wardon was not happy, and although he tried to hide it, his mother-in-law was an astute woman and easily read his mood. “Have I said something to upset you, Wardon?” she asked. “No, but your daughter certainly has. Her version of her childhood is much different than the one you shared with me.” “In what way?” she asked, her eyes wide. Wardon repeated a few of the things he’d been told by Sondi, and it was easy to see how shocked Meerna was… especially when her husband was accused of beating his daughter. “Wardon, my husband never once punished me, much less our children. I did all the disciplining, and I almost never spanked. I could not bring myself to do so. Wiltron was a level three, and I am a level one. Our daughter is a spirited level eight, as you know. We were ill-equipped to deal with her, I am afraid, and she was permitted her way entirely too much. I feared she would be difficult, and I was so impressed that you stepped forward at your wedding. My son is a level two and he was too embarrassed to be firm with his sister. I apologize to you for the shameful way Sondi is behaving. I did not do the right thing by permitting her to dream of other things and not insisting she take more of an interest in the things she needed to know to be a good wife and mother.” “What things did she dream of?” Wardon asked. “Did she wish a career?”
“Yes! How did you know this?” Meerna asked. “My brother’s wife, Rada, owns a floral shop. My sister is a partner with her husband in making wine. The women in our family are strong and wish to work outside the home in some capacity. Sondi has not shared her dreams with me, but I would not refuse her if it was something I could support.” Meerna was smiling with tears in her lovely eyes. “I am so happy to hear you say that, Wardon. It pleases me so much and reassures me that Sondi will be happy with you if only she permits herself to accept her marriage.” When Wardon smiled at her, she continued, “Sondi loves fabrics and textures. She can take a piece and shape it into a garment and sew it together and it is as good as the best designers. She made and designed her wedding dress… but was furious because the color did not suit her. It would have been beautiful in silver instead of gold.” “I thought she was beautiful that day,” Wardon insisted. “You are a wonderful young man. Do you wish me to have a talk with my daughter and try to straighten her out?” she offered. “No, ma’am. I would prefer you do not speak of our visit at all. I wish to confront Sondi in my own way. She will not be sitting well for a while, and could very well complain of me, but I want to assure you that I will not abuse her. Sondi needs to learn she has pushed me too far with her lies, and I will not tolerate that. Once I am sure she has accepted our marriage, I will help her set up her business and permit her to pursue her dream. Will you trust me in this, Meerna?” Wardon asked seriously. “Yes, Wardon. I do trust you. Only a man with love in his heart would come to me so openly and ask my advice and help. I respect that, and if Wiltron were with us, he would shake your hand and offer you his support, too.” Wardon kissed her on the cheek and took his leave. Sondi was in for a serious set down and there was no time like the present. He arrived home and was not surprised to find the house exactly as he left it that morning. The entire place needed a thorough cleaning, and as usual, there was nothing cooking in the kitchen. He often wondered if Sondi fixed herself something to eat when he wasn’t there. He fixed himself a glass of water, drank it down, and still no sign of his wife. He knew she was home, but simply refusing to come and greet him. He was sure he would find her in the chamber that was supposed to be shared by them both. It suited his purposes just fine. Sondi was in for a surprise. “OH! You did not knock upon my door before entering, Wardon!” Sondi exclaimed angrily. “This happens to be my chamber, too, Sondi, and I will enter when I please.” He watched her blue eyes widen in anger and he did not give her a chance to speak. He crossed the room, took a seat on the bed, and promptly grabbed her wrist and jerked her down across his lap. “This is long overdue, Sondi!” Wardon stated as he gave her backside a hard wallop. “No! Stop! You cannot do this! I have told you of my childhood! Please, you are frightening me!” Sondi exclaimed, looking over her shoulder at him. To her surprise Wardon raised his hand again and spanked hard over her tight pants. “You lied about your childhood, Sondi. Your father never even spanked you, which was a huge mistake on his part.” Wardon spanked her again and Sondi squealed in
pain. “I have no sympathy for you, little girl. All you have done since we married was have one long, childish tantrum, and now, you are going to get one very long spanking.” “No! Please don’t!” Sondi pleaded, but she might as well have saved her breath. Wardon was spanking her soundly and she could feel each and every spank through her clothing. After several minutes of this, she felt she was going to burst into tears if he did not cease. “Stop, Wardon!” she demanded firmly, and to her relief and surprise, he did just that. Sondi’s relief was short lived, however. Wardon only stopped so that he could raise her to her knees and unfasten her pants and push them down over her hips, along with her undergarment! “No!” She slapped at him, but he merely grabbed her wrists and pulled her down over his lap once again. This time he had an inviting bare target and quite a few lies to fuel his determination to make this a spanking she would never forget. “You lied to me, Sondi. You accused your father of beating you and terrorizing you, which was an awful thing to do. You used your lies to manipulate and control this marriage, and those days are over. You are going to be spanked soundly this day, and for the next several days until you realize that your behavior was beyond selfish.” He continued to apply his large hand on her delicate skin and watched as her bottom and upper thighs turned a deep dark red. Wardon concentrated on her sit spots then, and nodded in satisfaction when Sondi finally declared she was sorry in a tone of voice that sounded like she truly meant the words. He gave her a few more hard spanks, and then lifted her up to sit her on his lap. Sondi tried to get up, but Wardon kept her right where she was. “Would you like another spanking, young lady?” he demanded. “No!” she denied. “Then you will sit here and listen to me. I am on to all your tricks, Sondi, and they will no longer work. I know that you did not wish to get married and the way you have been behaving was an attempt to control me. I will not be controlled. I am the Head of this House and you vowed to obey. I vowed to punish you when you did not, and so far I have been extremely lenient. You have lied to me about your father and your childhood. You have been lazy and refused to clean our home as is your duty, and you have refused to fix food for us. As of this moment, you will be a wife to me. You will accept the fact we are married, and you will do your best to make our marriage a successful and happy one. I will accept no less from you. Each day you will receive a spanking at bedtime, and the severity of that spanking will be determined by your actions. Is that clear?” Sondi looked at Wardon as if he were a snake with two heads, but she nodded in compliance. Her bottom was stinging and she feared he would spank her again if she argued and told him she did not wish to be married at all. “You may put on a nightrobe and come to the kitchen and fix us some dinner.” When Sondi made a face, he said quietly, “You should have already done this, wife, and I will take this reluctance into account this night when you are spanked.” “You cannot mean to spank me again tonight!” his words brought her out of her silence. “I will not have it, Wardon! I am already in pain!” “You have no one to blame but yourself, Sondi. I expect there to be a decent meal ready to eat within a reasonable time. I will be in my office working while you prepare dinner.” He turned and left their chamber, wondering if she would obey him.
Sondi threw her pillow at the door when he walked out of the room, but she quickly removed the rest of her clothing and put on a nightrobe as he suggested. Wardon’s brother’s wife wore robes all the time, and she looked beautiful in them. Perhaps Wardon preferred them, too? She could design and make a few, and perhaps join Rada in her choice. Sondi suddenly realized what she was thinking and stomped her foot. She would do nothing to please a man! Angrily, she made her way to the kitchen. Sondi knew how to cook. Her mother insisted upon it, and since Sondi did love her mother, she learned to make many different dishes. She simply did not want to cook for Wardon. Why should she do so simply because she was a woman and he demanded it of her? She wanted to do what she wanted to do, but that was not permitted. The only sewing she would be permitted was for herself and any children they would have. Tears filled Sondi’s eyes, but she blinked them away. She did not wish another spanking at bedtime and would try not to earn one. Her bottom was still smarting from Wardon’s hand, and she was relieved he had not decided to use the Punishment Strap from their wedding ceremony. Still, she did not go out of her way to fix anything special. She fixed what was handy and could be heated through quickly. When it was ready she called out for Wardon to come and eat. He insisted he join her at the table, and when she shook her head no, he merely swatted her backside and sat her down on her chair. “You will join me at meals, wife,” he stated inflexibly. “Sit down now, while you are still able to do so.” Sondi opened her mouth to make a retort, but caught the expression in his eyes and thought better of it. Instead she watched as Wardon ate hungrily, and she was suddenly filled with shame. The man worked hard… and came home to a meal that was little more than a snack. It did not speak well for her, and she wished she could do the meal over. “I am sorry, Wardon,” she forced herself to say the words she knew he deserved to hear. “I will fix you something better; I can see you are still hungry.”
Chapter Nine Wardon watched as Sondi rose to her feet and quickly prepared another dish for him. This one was hot, and it tasted wonderful. “Thank you, Sondi. This is very good, and you were right; I am hungry this day.” “I am ashamed that I have let you go without a proper meal, Wardon. I shall not do that again,” she promised, unable to meet his gaze. She was selfish not to realize her husband was so hungry. “Tell me what you are thinking, Sondi.” Wardon encouraged her to speak. “I am thinking that I am selfish not to realize how hungry you have been. I put my anger and frustration before everything else, and I have not treated you well.” “I would know what has you so upset and angry and frustrated. I cannot solve the problem if I do not know it exists.” He wanted her to confide in him. “It does not matter now. I am married and my life is decided for me. I am given no choice in anything.” She sounded bitter, even to her own ears. “What choices would you make?” Wardon asked carefully, hoping she would trust him enough to share her dreams and thoughts. Sondi felt tears sting her eyes. “A woman is not given choices as a man is, husband. I would choose a career over marriage,” she admitted, and then wondered if he would react in anger and punish her again. She was well aware that most men did not wish for their wives to do anything but care for the family. “Why did you not come to me and share your desires, Sondi? Did you fear my reaction, or expect me not to understand?” he asked, relieved they could have this discussion and perhaps put their marriage on the right path. “If you tell me no, then there is no hope,” she said sadly. “As long as I keep my dreams to myself, there is still hope they could become reality.” “Is this why you lied to me about your childhood? Why you refused to care for our home and cook our meals? Why you have refused to share our chamber with me?” Her pretty face turned a dull red, but she nodded and explained, “I thought you would overturn our marriage if I was an unsuitable wife. I told the lies about my childhood so you would not punish me and use the marriage strap… even though it was deserved and a less patient man would have done so. I have behaved badly,” she proclaimed, tears of regret in her eyes. “I was given no opportunity before the ceremony to question your thoughts and feelings, and my brother and mother refused to do my bidding, telling me that it was unseemly for me to ask your thoughts and views. The reason they chose you was your smile. Mother was convinced you would be gentle with me.” “I see. It is not me personally that you find repulsive, just the idea of marriage to a man who would have no regard for your wishes and desires…?” Wardon asked, wanting to be sure he understood. “This is true,” Sondi admitted, chewing on her lower lip. “Have I displeased you overmuch, Wardon? I would not wish another spanking this night as I am still wearing the one you gave me a short time ago.” “I will not spank you for being honest with me, Sondi,” Wardon smiled. “I would ask you a few questions, however. What can you tell me of my family?”
She looked at him, puzzlement in her blue eyes. “I know that you have two brothers, both older. Zade is married to Rada, who is very beautiful. Grodot is married to Betta. You have one sister. I cannot recall her name,” she admitted shamefully. “Her name is Lissa, and she is married to Alexander,” Wardon supplied the information. “What else can you tell me of Lissa and Rada?” he continued his questioning. “Just that they are beautiful women, and mothers, and very happy with their husbands,” she stated. In truth, she hadn’t made any effort to get to know the other two women at all. She had hung up on both of them when they tried to invite her to luncheon for the purpose of getting to know her better. She behaved with rudeness and Wardon would be justified in punishing her for that as well. “When Zade selected a husband for my sister, he was careful to choose a man who would permit her to follow her passion, which is creating new wines. She and Alex are both winemakers and they work together running a huge winery.” He smiled as Sondi absorbed this news, her blue eyes wide in disbelief. “Rada also has the career she desired before her marriage to my brother.” “She does?” Sondi was afraid to breathe lest she learn she was dreaming. Could it be possible that she was actually married to a rare man who would encourage her desire to have a career of her own? “Have you heard of Floral Reflections?” he asked, and when she nodded, he smiled and said, “That is Rada’s business, and very successful, as are my sister’s wines. He mentioned the winery’s name, and once more Sondi was amazed. The men in my House are accustomed to women who desire careers, and as long as they put their marriage and family first, there is no objection to having both.” “Oh, Wardon, are you serious?” Sondi asked hopefully, unable to believe she was actually awake and not having a dream that would disappear the moment she awoke. “Are you telling me that I may have my own business if I wish?” “I am saying that we will discuss the matter once I am certain you are happy in our marriage. At the moment, I think your attention needs to be focused on our home and our marriage. I would need to see that you are capable of running this household before I would consider putting you in charge of a business, wife. I would also wish to know what kind of business you are interested in. There are some fields I do not consider suitable for a woman. I would not wish you to be harmed in any way by doing something dangerous.” He let her consider his words for a moment, and when she did not voice an argument, he smiled in approval and asked, “What kind of business are you interested in, Sondi?” Of course he already knew this from her mother, but he wanted to hear in her own words what she wished to occupy her time doing. “I am interested in fabrics and textures, and in designing clothing and in sewing the garments I design, Wardon,” Sondi said excitedly. “I see a piece of goods and can picture it sewn into something beautiful. I have already made several robes for Rada in my head,” she confessed with a giggle. She then said, “I prefer to make all of my own clothing.” “This is why you did not approve of the clothing I purchased for you to wear during our mandatory solitude.” He nodded to himself, understanding. “I was rude and ungrateful, husband. And, I was jealous of the label. You bought me the best, and I was prideful and finding fault out of jealousy for the man who
designed them. You would be justified in punishing me again, and not just for this matter. I have been terrible to live with.” Her eyes filled with tears. “Do not cry now, Sondi. We are both learning from our mistakes. We are now communicating and discussing our thoughts and desires. And we will find a way to make our marriage work for both of us. I do not regard you as a possession, wife. I want you to be happy, too. If you desire a career and are denied the opportunity to be creative, you will carry anger with you all the time. What kind of marriage would we have then? A very unhappy one, and I do not wish to live in that manner.” “You would not object to this field of work for me?” She wanted to be certain. Wardon smiled in approval, “That is not a career I would object to, wife. I love the sparkle in your eyes as you speak of this. You are creative in your desires, and I would like to see that reflected in our home,” he suggested in a mild tone of voice. “Wardon, I give you my word you will see a different wife from this point forward. I apologize for being so difficult and for not being honest with you in the very beginning. I could have saved us a lot of grief. I shall begin immediately to make our home clean and livable.” She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders and said, “I know I have earned a punishment for failing to live up to my duties as your wife, and I promise I will accept it as best I can. I am truly ashamed of myself.” Wardon did not really want to spank Sondi again, but he knew it would be a mistake to leave her guilty feelings unpunished. She would also lose respect for him if he failed in his duty toward her, and her behavior these last weeks were certainly punishable. He pushed his chair away from the table and said, “Come to me now, Sondi, and we will put this matter behind us. You do not need to worry; I have no intention of being overly harsh this time. You have expressed remorse and asked for correction. I feel that took a lot of courage, and I respect and admire that.” Sondi walked to him, and he gently helped her lie across his lap. He pushed aside the robe she was wearing, and he spanked, using his hand to redden her bottom and upper thighs, and her sit spot. He was true to his word and did not spank overly hard, but he spanked a very long time, scolding for the things that Sondi needed to change. “Will you promise to do better now, wife?” he finally asked, hoping the mild punishment was sufficient. “Yes, sir, I will!” Sondi promised. She was crying. “Do you feel less guilty, or do I need to ask for a wooden spoon to sting your bottom even more?” “No! Please…! I am sorry enough!” she insisted. “I do not need a wooden spoon to make me regret my behavior more than I already do!” To her amazement, he lifted her to her feet. “I will begin cleaning now,” she said with conviction, anxious to show him she was sincere and had indeed learned her lesson. “No, Sondi, tomorrow is soon enough to start with that. Right now I would like to retire to our chamber and put another area of our marriage to rights,” he said softly. He reached out to take her hand in his and said, “I know there was pain the first time, wife, but I give you my word there will be no pain this time, only pleasure for both of us. I would ask your trust and let me show you that I will not hurt you in the manner.” “I am frightened,” Sondi whispered, her spanking all but forgotten in the face of this new development.
“I know you are, honey.” Wardon gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “I promise to go slowly and you only need to tell me if something does not feel right to you. Will you give me your trust?” he asked once more. “I will try to please you, husband,” Sondi agreed. “I am afraid I will behave as I did on our wedding night and get hysterical. I do not wish to embarrass myself again.” “It is not unusual for that to happen, Sondi. I often have thought the Marriage Council should let a couple get to know each other for a while before the actual wedding takes place. If we had been permitted time together, many things would have come up for discussion, and it would not be such a shock for a new bride to find herself in bed with a perfect stranger.” “I agree, Wardon.” Sondi smiled at him. “Please let me clear the dishes and I will join you in our chamber.” “I will secure the house while you are cleaning up in here, and I will bring my things from the guest room.” He was making it known that he was not going to be denied his bed any longer. It was time to move forward with their marriage, and sleeping in separate rooms and in separate beds was not the way to a successful marriage. Sondi took several deep breaths, trying to calm her nerves, and absorb how much things had changed in the space of a couple of hours. She had a completely different opinion of her husband now, and saw her own behavior as shameful and childish. It was time to put aside her fears and go to her husband with a smile. She quickly cleared the table of dishes, and once done, she promised herself that she would do a thorough job of cleaning the kitchen the next morning, and she would prepare a meal that was wonderful for the two of them to share in the evening. It would be her priority. Wardon was already in the chamber, putting away some of his clothing in the dressers and closets, and his toiletries in their facility. She looked about the room in dismay. It was such a mess, and she was seeing it through his eyes now. “I will work hard tomorrow to set our home to rights, Wardon. I am sorry I have been so childish.” “Your feelings were hurt, Sondi. You felt that your wishes and dreams were of no consequence, and I can understand that, and I will give you time to turn things around in our home. Do not work so hard that you exhaust yourself,” he said kindly. “I can be patient as long as I can see some improvements and know that you are trying and making an effort.” To her embarrassment, Sondi felt her eyes fill with tears, and she emotionally replied, “Thank you for being so kind and considerate of my feelings, Wardon. I am not deserving of that, and I know it. I am used to being spoiled and having my way all the time.” “I will always try to be kind and considerate, honey, but I do have limits to my patience. I reached that limit today, I am afraid. If I had taken you over my knee some time ago, I think we would have worked through part of our problems much sooner. I won’t hesitate the next time, trust me.” Sondi nodded, and then hurried into the facility room to wash up and prepare for bed. She was trying to be brave, but it was difficult to imagine making love again and suffering the pain. It was terrible, and she feared it. While her Mother had prepared her for the basics, at no time had she mentioned it would hurt when her husband entered her. Sondi could not imagine any woman suffering that willingly, but there were children around, so apparently they did. How she was going to endure this again, she had no idea,
but Wardon was asking her to give their bed another try, and he was promising her it would not hurt. She wanted to believe him, but she truly feared the worst. Still, he deserved that she give him her trust at least one more time. If he could forgive the way she had treated him for the last weeks, then she could endure his touch this one time. Wardon was waiting for her when she came out into their chamber, and he had the lights turned low. Sondi found it difficult to remove her robe and climb into their bed, knowing that he intended to possess her body once again. She was truly nervous and wanted to cry and beg him not to touch her. “Relax now, Sondi. I promise I will not hurt you, and will only give you pleasure this time.” She did not see this as possible, but Wardon set out to prove her wrong. His kisses were gentle and persuasive and his touch was light and made her ache for more. In spite of her resistance, Wardon soon had her body trembling, and when he finally did enter her, there was no pain, but a pleasure so intense she breathed his name in gratitude. His movements were slow and easy, and then fast and hard, and she couldn’t keep from moaning as the pressure built within her and then burst into shards so intense that it took her breath away. Wardon also cried out as he reached his pleasure, and then he held her close and made her feel very cherished. Sondi could not believe how wonderful and safe she felt… and loved and cherished. Her bottom was tender, but her body was so relaxed and it felt natural and right to be in Wardon’s arms. For the first time since she learned she was to marry, Sondi felt at peace and happy. Life suddenly held meaning again. ******************** Grodot looked toward the corner and was not surprised to see that Betta was crying softly and making no attempt to hide the fact from her husband, or from the Peace Enforcers who were methodically taking statements and collecting evidence. Grodot still found it hard to believe that his sweet little wife took it upon herself to come to his offices and hide herself in order to offer assistance and protection to him after she overheard him speaking on his communicator with Charles of Nalma. “Sir, I believe we have all the information we need. You will, of course, be required to appear before the Courts and give evidence regarding this matter. Nielsor of Wyndham will be remanded to General Authority until his hearing.” “Thank you for your assistance, Supervisor.” Grodot shook the man’s hand. “I appreciate your prompt response.” “Hopefully you will have recourse to recover your monies, sir.” “The most important thing is that my friend is cleared of wrongdoing,” Grodot said with a sincerity that was heartfelt. “Charles of Nalma is fortunate to have a steadfast friend,” the Supervisor of the Embezzlement, Blackmail, and Extortion Division of Enforcers smiled. “I am indeed.” Charles walked over to add his opinion. “I have looked over all the documents, discs, and logs, and I would convict myself if I did not know for a fact of my innocence. I am lucky that Grodot did not decide to get even with me for all those times I have beaten him at tennis!” He grinned, but his face was pale and his eyes dark with pain that Nielsor would frame him. Nielsor was put into restraints and led from the room by two uniformed Enforcers, and the other Enforcers finished up and left within minutes. Once they were all gone, and
it was just three of them in Grodot’s office, Charles turned to his friend and said, “I’m not an emotional man, Grodot, but I don’t think I could find a truer friend anywhere. Thank you for believing in me, and coming to me, and letting me have the pleasure of helping you solve this problem. Your faith in me and your trust mean a lot. If I can ever do anything at all to pay you back in some small way, just say the word.” “You are a good friend, Charles. Choosing you to frame was Nielsor’s biggest mistake.” Charles nodded, and then glanced over Grodot’s shoulder at the crying woman sitting on the chair in the corner and frowned. “I hope you will not be too harsh on your bride, my friend. She is here because she loves you.” “Betta has frightened ten years off of my life this night,” Grodot growled angrily. “Nielsor sought to use her as a hostage!” “He did not succeed,” Charles reminded his friend, “And Betta has had a bad scare. She needs your reassurance now,” he stated his opinion. “She will have my reassurance, Charles,” Grodot nodded, and then added, “After she is soundly punished for doing something so utterly foolish.” He was reminded of Zade’s Rada, and fully understood why Zade was so harsh with her. “You are angry, friend, and your pride is smarting, too. You will not be happy with yourself if you are harsh with the woman you love.” He gave Grodot a hug and slapped him on the back, and said, “Thank you for believing in me.” Charles left, his head high, leaving Grodot alone with Betta. Grodot decided it was time to deal with his wife, and crossed the room to stand in front of her. She had remained seated in the corner ever since he plunked her on the chair with a gruffly ordered, “Sit here, young lady, and do not move unless you want me to bare you and spank you in front of everyone in this room.” “What have you to say for yourself, Betta?” he demanded, and to his surprise, she jumped up and threw her arms around his neck and cried. “Betta…!” He tried to calm her, and it took a while before he was able to understand her words. “I was so terrified you would be harmed, Grodot, and I could not live without you now that I have found you. I know you are angry with me right now, but I cannot apologize for coming to aid you. My life would have no value without you, and I would gladly give my life to keep you safe.” “Betta, I was not in danger.” Grodot’s anger evaporated in the face of her declaration. “Charles was here to give assistance, and to help me trap Nielsor into a confession. The plan was carefully designed, and the Enforcers informed their services would be needed. I am not a babe, wife. I am trained well to protect myself,” he told her, amazed to realize that his pride was wounded, just as Charles stated. It shamed him to think his wife thought she needed to rescue him from a dangerous situation, and one that wasn’t particularly dangerous when knowing Nielsor’s disposition and personality as he did. The other man was not a physical threat in any way. “Yes, you handled yourself well, and even protected me when Nielsor panicked and grabbed me to hold as hostage for his freedom. I was foolish to think I could protect you when I turned out to be frightened of Nielsor instead. I am not as brave as I thought,” she admitted with a little smile that told him she saw the humor in the situation, a humor he wasn’t capable of responding to as of yet. “I love you more than my life, husband!” Betta reached up to touch his cheek. “I know I have earned your displeasure,
and that does make me sad. It will be the very first time you have corrected me, and I had so hoped this time would never come. I want to be pleasing to you, and I failed in that this night.” “Betta, you are pleasing to me,” Grodot admitted. “You frightened me tonight, and that is why I am growling and scolding.” He touched her cheek in the same way she touched his, “I could not bear to lose you now that I have found you.” She smiled at him, and then stood on tiptoe to kiss him. “Will you please get my punishment over with, husband? I would have the dreading over with. It has been many years since I felt anyone’s discipline, and I am very anxious to know how harsh it will be?”
Chapter Ten “I am hopeful you will not use the Punishment Strap, Grodot…?” Betta’s pretty eyes filled with tears. “I fear it.” “I will not use the Punishment Strap for your first punishment in our marriage. Betta, especially since I know you only acted out of love. The worst thing you have done is eavesdrop on a conversation and follow me here in the hopes of seeing me safe. You did not disobey an order I gave for your safety and protection. If you had done that, your punishment would be severe. I do not believe you warrant that much displeasure, Betta.” “Thank you, Grodot,” she said, her eyes shining with love. “I will spank you with my hand this time, wife, and only because you need a reminder to speak to me when you are afraid, and when you eavesdrop on a conversation, you only hear one side. That leads to assumptions that are not true, and those assumptions led you to believe that Charles was the guilty party, and that assumption put you at risk this night. I think those reasons warrant a sound spanking. Do you agree?” he wanted to know. “Yes, husband,” Betta replied, chewing on her lower lip. “I cannot apologize for coming after you, but I will apologize for not bringing my worry and concerns to you and speaking to you of them.” “If you had done that, I would have insisted you remain in our home,” Grodot said firmly, and then he looked at her sternly and questioned, “Would you have obeyed my directive to remain home, wife?” Betta thought for a few seconds and then answered truthfully, “I am not sure, Grodot. I would like to answer that I would have obeyed you, but I am honestly not sure if I could have done that if I thought you in danger. My love for you is great,” she explained with a little shrug. Grodot found he didn’t want to spank his little wife. He wanted to scoop her up in his arms and make love to her, right here in his office. Instead, he took her hand and pulled her across the room to a sofa against the wall. He sat down, and tugged her down over his lap. He pulled down her pants and panties so that he could see her bottom. “How long has it been since you have had a spanking, Betta?” he asked curiously, wanting to know how hard he should spank her. “The last time I had a spanking was over ten years ago, Grodot. I broke a trinket that my Mother valued as it was a gift from her Grandmother. She spanked me with her hairbrush, and sent me to bed for the rest of the day to think about my behavior.” “That was the very last time?” Grodot was amazed. “Were you ever obedient?” he asked with a smile. “Yes. I do not like to distress those who love me, husband. I am sorry that you are distressed with me, and I wish for your correction so that I may be forgiven.” Grodot nodded, but he held back as he started spanking. He was positive he would not need to be severe with his bride to make an impression. He did not wish to hurt her, and a light spanking would accomplish more than a hard one. Betta accepted the correction without asking him to stop, and when he lifted her to her feet a few minutes later, her bottom was red and hot to the touch, and she was softly crying, but she put her arms around him and thanked him for loving her so much. Grodot held her close,
and once her tears were dried, he said, “Would you like to go home now, sweetheart, and we will get to the best part of spanking…?” “You mean to spank me again?” she asked, the hurt in her eyes evident. “No, sweetheart,” he smiled. “The best part of a spanking is the forgiving part, taking you in my arms and making sweet love to you.” “Ohhhh!” Betta’s cheeks turned pink, but she said, “I think I will enjoy that part of spanking, Grodot, and yes, I am most anxious to go home now.” She giggled when he reminded her to fix her clothing, but they were soon on their way to their home, and true to his word, Grodot made the forgiving part of the spanking very special indeed. ******************** “Your advice was sound, Zade. Thank you.” Wardon smiled as he spoke on his communicator with his brother. “Things are much better this day, and I feel our marriage is sound now.” “This is good news, Wardon,” Zade said in relief. “You were correct when you asked if Sondi’s resentment was based on the fact she wanted a career she thought would be denied her. She works with fabrics and textures and designs clothing. I have promised her I will entertain her career once she commits herself to our marriage and shows she can manage our household without my constant supervision.” “I think you made a wise decision, Wardon.” Zade gave his brother his support and approval. “How is Rada this day?” he asked in concern. His own wife was sitting tenderly, and he understood his brother’s pain. “She is much improved, and insisted on fixing our breakfast. She cannot sit without crying, however, and I will insist she takes it very easy this day. It pains me to see her so sore.” “I understand, Zade, but you did what was necessary. Rada knows this, and she loves and respects you for being firm. A punishment is an expression of love if given with love, and Rada knows she is cherished and valued.” “Thank you for your words of comfort, brother.” Zade did feel better. “Have you heard from Grodot?” Wardon questioned. “I was ready to ask you the same question,” Zade admitted. “Not a word. If I do, I will let you know what is going on with him,” Wardon promised. “Likewise.” “Please give Rada a hug for me, Zade, and if it is not too much trouble when she feels better, could you ask her to try and made Sondi feel a bit more welcome in our House? I know that Rada has tried already to invite her to luncheon, but Sondi was feeling frustrated and upset at the time and did not respond well. I think now she will be more receptive.” “I am sure Rada will be happy to do so, Wardon. We will have you to dinner very soon as well.” “Thank you. I think that once she gets to know Rada and Lissa better she will become more relaxed in our marriage.”
“We will help all we can,” Zade promised his brother, and once he ended the conversation, he sought out Rada to make a report, knowing she was as concerned as he about Wardon’s marriage. She was lying on their bed, looking a bit sad, but she smiled when he entered the room. “Are you feeling worse, honey?” he asked sympathetically. “I do not feel up to doing much this day, husband, and I had ideas of making a fun dinner since the children will be home later. It frustrates me when I feel as though I am letting them down.” “Think how much worse they would feel if you were not here to welcome them home, little Rada. I am sure they will enjoy whatever we choose to have this evening as long as their Mother is here to hug them and smile at them.” “I will never be so careless again, husband. You taught the lesson well,” she conceded. “I hope I never have to teach this particular one again, Rada. I would not survive it,” he confessed, and then leaned down to kiss her tenderly. “You own my heart.” “And you own mine.” She smiled lovingly, and took his hand and held it to her cheek. “I wish you would stop blaming yourself for punishing me so thoroughly, Zade. I earned a serious punishment, and the honor you bear would let you do nothing less but give me what I earned and do your duty towards me. If you had less honor, I could not love and respect you as I do. You showed me clearly how much I am valued as your wife and the mother of your children, and now you are caring for me and letting me know I am loved and cherished. I do not fault you for my soreness, husband. I fault myself for putting you in the position of having to administer such a serious punishment. The soreness just reminds me of your love for me, and when I feel frustration and regret, it is towards myself, not you.” “I still could wish that you would heal a bit faster,” he winked. “By the time I return to work on Monday, you will be feeling much better, I am sure, and if not, I will remain home to care for you. I am not Chudz; I take no pleasure in your pain.” “I know that, darling.” Rada vowed she was going to complain less. She hated to see Zade suffering the aftermath of her correction. “Wardon called to speak of his marriage,” Zade commented. “Is he still concerned?” “He feels that the marriage will work now and he thanked me for giving him counsel. He spoke with Sondi’s Mother, and learned that much of what he was told by his wife was not true. She was not mistreated as a child, and she was only saying that to keep him from taking her in hand for failing to accept her duties as a wife.” “That is terrible!” Rada exclaimed. “She is feeling much of the same frustration you felt as a new bride,” Zade smiled, and then chuckled when Rada blushed. “I was awful,” Rada admitted, “but I did not shut you out of our chamber, or lie to you.” “No, you did not,” he agreed. “If I recall, you voiced your opinion of the Marriage Committee and told me you felt it was not fair that you had no choice in your life. You made it known that you wanted to be a florist and work with flowers.”
“Yes, and you shocked and pleased me by agreeing that I could do so, provided I always put our marriage and our family first, and I have tried very hard to do so,” she agreed. “On those occasions I forgot, you were there to remind me that I needed to slow down, and if I did not heed you, I learned the lesson another way,” she admitted without the least bit of shame. “You have always kept a fine balance, Rada. I have only had to step in twice, and that was largely due to someone else overbooking your talents. You have been firmer in handling those mix-ups, and upon occasion, you have requested a bit of extra help from me to handle something important to you. I believe you do very well, Rada, and Wardon has no objection to permitting Sondi to have a career also.” “Is this why she has been so sullen and miserable?” Rada asked. “Yes. Wardon said she works with fabrics and textures, and likes to design clothing and sew garments. She wants to have a career, and did not feel she would be given that opportunity unless she forced him to renounce her as his wife. She was misbehaving on purpose to earn his disgust and contempt in an attempt to force him to end their marriage.” “Did he spank her?” Rada questioned, knowing full well how her own husband of ten years would have handled the situation. “Yes, I am sure he did, but he did not give me any details. He only said that they have talked and he feels their marriage is solid now that she knows she can have both a career and a marriage provided she puts their marriage and family first. He asks that you try to welcome her again once you are feeling better.” “She hung up on me the last time I tried to invite them for a meal, Zade!” Rada revealed. “Wardon thought that might be the case. He hopes you will overlook that and give Sondi another chance. It would please me very much, Rada, if you would do this for my brother.” “Of course I will do it, darling,” Rada replied. “I would prefer to have peace in our House, and you know I love your family. I will give Sondi another chance, and invite her to another luncheon very soon.” Zade smiled, and then asked quietly, “Would you mind if I applied some healing salve to your bottom and thighs, Rada? I would see this spanking finished as soon as possible.” Rada could not believe her husband was offering to bring a speedy end to a punishment when he had never done so before, but she was not about to argue. He brought the container from their facility room and had her lie on her tummy. She tried hard not to cry and wince when he touched her, but she was, without a doubt, sorer than ever before in her entire lifetime. Zade had used the salve on injuries she had suffered in the past, such as a sprained ankle and she knew from experience that its relief was instantaneous, and that she would be completely well within a couple of days. If she was lucky, she would be able to sit by tomorrow with a bit of discomfort. “Thank you,” she whispered tearfully as he continued to liberally apply the salve on her cheeks, sit spots, inner thighs, and the backs of her thighs. She felt it working to relieve her pain almost immediately, and Rada actually fell asleep in relief. Zade knew there were some who would call him a poor husband, but his wife had learned her lesson. He trusted there would never be a need to teach it again. Her
willingness to give Sondi another chance because she loved him, and his family, touched him more than she could possibly know. This salve was his way of thanking her from his heart. He was pleased to see she was able to sleep without pain. He covered her gently, put the salve on the night table so he could apply it again that night before they went to bed, and then he left their chamber, closing the door quietly. He would let his sweet wife sleep in peace now And try to call Grodot to see what was going on. He was worried about him. ******************** “Yes?” Grodot answered grumpily, the communicator disturbing his sleep. He looked at the clock beside the bed, and was startled to realize the time. “I woke you?” Zade asked in surprise. “You did, but I should have been up two hours ago.” He grinned as he looked at Betta, who was also awake now. “I will make you some breakfast,” she whispered, rising and putting on a nightrobe. He nodded at her, and smiled in approval, as she hurried from the room. “I caught the embezzler,” he stated. “Charles worked with me, and we had the Enforcers there for back-up.” “Good. Who was it?” Zade asked, wondering what his brother wasn’t telling him. It was unlike Grodot to lie abed, and Zade worried that he was injured in some way. “Nielsor of Wyndham,” Grodot answered. “The evidence is overwhelming, and he has confessed as well. The Court appearance will be a formality. He will be facing incarceration for a long time.” “And why are you abed this late in the morning? Were you injured last night?” Zade demanded. “No, brother, I am fine,” Grodot chuckled. “If you must know, Betta earned my displeasure last night when she eavesdropped on a communication with Charles and followed me to my office to protect me. I was forced to punish her, and we stayed up most of the night making up afterwards.” He chuckled again, and heard his brother’s answering chuckle. “I cannot believe that Betta would do that,” Zade admitted. “She loves me, what can I say?” Grodot answered. “And you love her,” Zade nodded. “It shows.” He paused and said, “Wardon is also worried about you this morning.” “I will call him,” Grodot promised, and after a bit more conversation, the brothers hung up. ******************** Rada was completely recovered from her punishment by Monday, and could sit without a bit of pain. She got up early and made sweet Old-fashioned rolls for her husband to enjoy with his breakfast, and Zade’s pleasure at the treat made her smile. She leaned down and whispered for his ears alone, “Thank you for the healing salve, darling. I am well now.” Zade already knew this because of the love they’d shared the night before. Rada had turned to him and he was relieved to know she was no longer suffering her punishment. It was satisfying to him to see her so happy now, and that their lives were
once again normal. He enjoyed his special breakfast, and then kissed his children and wife goodbye. He would enjoy getting back to work, too, and he suspected that Rada was thinking the same thing. It wasn’t until late that afternoon that Wardon called and said, “Thanks, brother.” “For what?” Zade questioned. “Rada called this day and invited Sondi to luncheon on Wednesday. Sondi is pleased to be included, but a bit afraid that she will be scolded. I asked her if scolding was deserved, and she admitted it was. I insisted that she apologize then, and do her best to make peace with the other ladies in our House. I am sure that Rada had reason not to wish to include Sondi, and I thank you for asking her to do so.” “I did not know that Rada was planning a luncheon, Wardon. I did speak to her a few days ago and asked if she would give Sondi a second chance, and she said ‘Of course I will.’ I am pleased to hear she is doing this so quickly.” “Rada is wonderful, Zade,” Wardon stated. “I think it will be good for Sondi to get to know her better. Lissa and Betta are not as fiery as our wives are, and I think Rada will be able to help Sondi the most.” “Rada will do all she can, I am sure. She wants your marriage to be successful.” ******************** “I am glad you have come early, Lissa,” Rada greeted her sister-in-law with a big smile. “I am nervous, Rada. Sondi has been extremely rude every time we have tried to speak to her. I am almost surprised that she agreed to come today, and the same with Betta, although she is polite. She just hasn’t acted like she wanted to get to know us for some reason. To tell the truth, I am a bit miffed and on the verge of losing my temper with the both of them, and Alex has promised me a punishment if I do!” “I am hoping for the best today,” Rada admitted. “Zade is very pleased we are making this attempt to welcome Sondi and Betta, and I am hoping I chose foods they will enjoy. I am going to pretend that the other conversations have not occurred, and greet them both as if they are new friends.” The door alert sounded then, and Rada made a face at Lissa, who giggled in response. It was Betta, and Rada told her how lovely she looked. It was obvious she had taken pains to look her very best, and the gift she held out to Rada was wrapped just as carefully. Rada opened it and smiled. “Candy! It looks so yummy, Betta! I will share it with all of you or I will eat every last one and put on ten pounds!” she smiled. “It does look good, but please do not open it, Rada, until our tummies are full from lunch! Otherwise, I will fight you for every piece!” Lissa giggled. “The dish is beautiful, too, Betta.” “I thought the dish very pretty,” Betta explained, but then admitted, “I made the candies myself. I enjoy doing that sort of thing, and Grodot has a sweet tooth.” “I am sure we will enjoy these all the more, knowing they are handmade, Betta. Thank you for bringing them.” Rada smiled at her and the door alert sounded once more. She knew it had to be Sondi, and she braced herself for open hostility as she went to answer the door. “Welcome, Sondi. Please come in and join us in the Social Room.” “Thank you.” Lissa smiled and greeted Sondi politely as did Betta.
“I would like to say something before I lose my nerve,” Sondi said, and blushed. “I owe all of you an apology for my rudeness, and I want to tell you how sorry I am for the way I have acted. I do not have a good excuse; I simply was unhappy and took it out on absolutely everyone, but especially on all of you because you seemed so darn happy and I was miserable. I hope you will be able to forgive me, and I brought peace offerings.” Sondi was carrying a large tote bag, and she took out several brightly wrapped packages. “This one is for you, Rada. I know that you prefer robes over pants, so yours is a bit different than Lissa’s and Betta’s. She handed the other two women their gifts and watched as they all opened them. “Oh, Sondi, this is beautiful!” Rada exclaimed, standing up to hold the robe in front of her. “I love the color and the fabric. Zade will love this, too. Thank you so much. Did you make it?” she asked, having been told of Sondi’s love of design and sewing. “Yes, I did,” Sondi said with pride. “I thought the color would be perfect with your hair and eyes, and the fabric would suit the graceful way you move.” “It is simply beautiful, and I cannot wait to wear it. Zade has a business affair this coming weekend, and I will wear it then,” she announced. “Let me see yours, Lissa!” she bossed her sister-in-law. “Mine is blue, and it’s perfect for work.” Lissa was obviously impressed. “I love the style, Sondi. Thank you so much.” “You are welcome,” Sondi smiled. “Betta, I made yours with home in mind… more of a lounge affect. Is it appropriate?” she asked in concern, sensing something was wrong. “Yes, it is lovely,” Betta said, but her eyes filled with tears and she started crying, much to her shame and dismay. “Betta, what is wrong?” Rada asked in concern, rising to get tissues and hand them to Grodot’s husband. “I am sure you will look lovely in Sondi’s gift.” “Oh, I know, and I love it. I really do. I just don’t fit in with all of you, and I don’t want you to think I am boring! Grodot assured me that you wouldn’t, but I can’t help but feel like I am less in some way because I do not wish a career like the rest of you! I am happy just being a wife!” “Don’t be ridiculous, Betta!” Lissa said firmly. “I cannot imagine Grodot married to a woman who wanted a career. He would not be content or happy with that. Not like my Alex, or Zade, or Wardon. Grodot’s needs are different. He has always wanted a wife to be home when he is home, and to focus her attention on him. And, I think it is wonderful that this is what you want, too. You and Grodot are perfectly suited for each other.” “I agree with Lissa.” Rada smiled, and gave Betta a hug. “Grodot would not be happy with any one of us. He has always said his wife would be a homemaker and not have an outside career.” “I do not know Grodot well, and I have just learned that Wardon will support me in a career, but Betta, all I wanted was a choice. I do not look down upon you for wanting to make the choice to be a homemaker. I am happy that you know this is what you want more than anything, and I do not consider you ‘less’.”
“I am sorry to be such a baby; I am just nervous,” Betta admitted. “Grodot said I did not need to be, but I want so much to be friends with all of you so that our House is a truly happy one.” “We all want that, Betta,” Rada agreed. “Lissa and I are so pleased that you and Sondi joined us today. I know that our food is ready now, and I am starving. Let’s fill our plates, and then we can all sit down and talk about our husbands,” she said with a wink. ******************** Zade came home and was pleased when Rada came to greet him with a kiss of welcome. “How did your luncheon go today?” he asked. “Would you believe they only left a few minutes ago?” Rada smiled. “We had a wonderful time, and our House is a happy one again. Sondi and Betta are lovely young women, and so much in love with Wardon and Grodot. Lissa and I are very pleased. I have a new robe to wear to the dinner party this weekend, made by Sondi, but I will probably not fit into it because of the candy that Betta made and brought us!” she teased. “We also wormed the most intimate details of punishments and lovemaking from Sondi and Betta, and shared our most helpful advice.” “And what was that?” Zade raised one eyebrow. “That corrections are given with love and are very necessary in a good marriage to keep the marriage strong and happy, and that lovemaking should never be put off and should be a priority, even and especially after a punishment. It reminds a couple what is truly most important in this world.” Zade smiled and whispered, “And where are Stennot and Tera?” “With Mother and Father,” she answered. Zade gave her a wicked grin, and swept her off her feet. “I would have my wife right now and show her how important she is to me!” he stated, heading for their chamber. “Is this any way for a couple married ten years to behave?” Rada asked with a laugh of joy. “I would surely hope so,” he stated. “I fully intend for us to behave in this manner when we are married as long as your parents!” Rada admitted that sounded fine to her, too. And they did! The End.
