The French Army of the Napoleonic Wars by Taconville This is a reproduction of one of the numerous sets of uniform card prints that were quite popular in France in the early 20th Century and remain a great reference today. The prints illustrate various French Napoleonic subjects with one plate of the British army and a few German States thrown in. This has always been one our most popular listings. Cat. Bellange’s French Army of the Napoleonic Wars This 40 print set is taken from the work of Hippolyte Belange who produced these engravings in the decades after the Napoleonic Wars. They were done as steel plate engravings then hand colored. I recently had an original given to me that was purchases in France for about $65. These are quite accurate and reflect the artistic style of the time. Cat, No. FR-2 50 prints

Artist Note: HIPPOLYTE BELLANGÉ (1800-1866). Bellangé began his career as a French military artist at a young age and under the tutelage of Baron Antoine Jean Gros, the noted painter of Napoleon‘s Grande Armée. He worked as a painter and lithographer producing series of colored and black and white uniform prints for a growing popular market in early and midnineteenth century France. His most popular subjects were the French armies of his own time (the Restoration and the July Monarchy) and a series of prints covering the French armies of the Revolution and First Empire printed in 1844.
The Imperial Guard of Napoleon I 1795-1815 from the Alfred de Marbot Series originally published in France between 1840 and 1860 This famous series of plates is one of the most accurate primary sources on the French Army of the period. Military fashion was quite similar in all European countries of this period and in all but a few specific cases could represent virtually any country of the period.
