Equipment: Hair comb, thin-gauge metal wire for threading, shears.

Coil wire around first several tines of comb.

Gather some baby’s breath and place next to comb

and begin binding to the comb using the wire

Continue coiling wire until reaching location of next flower: lisianthus

Add next flower (baby’s breath) in same direction, binding around stem as above

Add white phlox if desired. Continue binding flowers as above. After phlox, finish with more baby’s breath.

To close, coil wire several times around last tine of comb. Check that wire does not stick out to prevent injury

Remove leaves from all stems

Choose a focal flower (a peony is pictured) and hold in left hand, with fingers near blossom end.

Add next flower angled leftward, at same height as previous.

Rotate bouquet rightward a quarter-turn to position it for next flower (lisianthus).

Continue adding flowers diagonally, angled leftward, each time rotating bouquet rightward.

Progressively insert filler flowers between other flowers. All flowers must be inserted at same angle to preserve symmetry.

Tie a strong, tight knot at the uppermost point where the bouquet is held. Cut off remainder of string.

Cutting the stems: Measure two hands length and leave another 3cm at the bottom.

Using floral tape, wrap the stem beginning at the top. Do not wrap all the way to the bottom.

Take white ribbon. Place shiny side of ribbon facing stems, so that matte side is visible (leave 40-cm trail at flower end).

Place the first flower at one end, near the loop, and wrap with floral tape, coming as close as possible to blossom.

When done, tie ribbon (white is recommended) to the two loops, so that the crown may be tied to the wearer’s head.
