Gorudo is a mythical bird and has been held in great veneration in Ind io from time immemorial. Many lndologists hold that this deity is of Dravidian origin. A stone flog·post, often covered with metal plate, with on image of Gorudo on top, is invdriobly erected in front of the image of the Deity in all Voishnovoite temples. Besides This, another huge idol of Garuda is often installed in most Voishnavoite temples, as he is considered to be one of the greatest devotees 01 Lord Vishnu. During the GupTa age, whi ch is referred to as the golden era of Indian History, Ihe Imperi ol sTandard had a Garudo image on il. Gorudo is represented os 0 large white-necked eagle, but his i mages in the te mples s how him with a human trunk. Serpents are the natura l food of the qle.
