n+ §()´: D Abstract Ah me d Kh a n K ha ru l wa s a h ero o f 1 85 7 wa r of independence who inspired the local tribes to fight against the English. He was himself martyred in this campaign. He had seen the rule of Ranjit Singh and of the East India Company. He was highly respected during the reign of Ranjit Singh. It was truly Government of the natives. East India Company humiliated the local tribes according to the p o l i c y o f t h e c o l o n i z e r s . I t wa s t h e p o l i t i c a l unconsciousness of Ahmed Khan Kharul that the land should be ruled by its own people. It was this motivation that made him whole heartedly participate in the 1857 war of independence.
